I must confess that most of my travelling to "other" grounds tended to
be in the 60's and 70's.Generally not many of the Division One grounds
(now Prem) but Oxford moved up quickly from the Southern League (the
top non-league league prior to a "conference" type league being
started),to what is now The Championship, then Division Two.I will try
to share memories of games/players/ground conditions (!) with anyone
who has a particular favourite.Non-league grounds visited in that era
(were League) include Cambridge Utd.,/Aldershot/Exeter,possibly
others.I was at the first home game in the League (1962),when Oxford
played Lincoln City,as well as with both sons for the last one at the
Manor Ground against Port Vale. The Kassam Stadium has no atmosphere. One
humourous point. Some may know the new stadium, which is very
impressive,is built on three sides only.Often opposition goalies trot
down to the "fence" end (with car-park beyond) and applaud the non-
existent fans ! Keepers do tend to be eccentric...all right some are
nuts !
