Hello Olivier!
I never knew about this "beard" tradition.In my collection i have
pics of french teams which i believe is from the cup games in 70's
(with sponsors RTL,Europe 1 on shirts),but not with
beards:).Anyway,Pecout and Bossis look really funny:))

Hello Martin, Of course there is no obligation for the players to have a beard or a moustache, but it was quite frequent during the 70s and the 80s....
