We squeaked by with out getting very wet last night. There was just
enough rain to make the road damp and it was at the end of the ride. We
had the pleasure of a 70yr old - Don, neighbor of Steve and Joyce, out
to ride with us. Don hung with us in front most of the ride, climbed
Holy Hill to the highest point at the Church, and had a smile on his
face at the end... Way to go man!!!

Same plan for next week.

International Cycling Classic Runs 07/13 - 7/29. Professional Level
racing here in our backyard that can be observed for FREE. The
Criteriums are a lot of fun to watch because you can walk around the
1mile course thus seeing the race from many view points. And, the field
is lapping the course about every 2 minutes (30mph)! A few of us have
been taking-in the Carl Zach race in Waukesha the last couple years
(7/21 this year).
Check out the Web site for details.

Our new Pre/Post ride location worked out pretty good this last Monday
so we have group consensus to meet here again next week. We will have
the added bonus of placing our food order before we ride so the cook can
get started early.

Jeff has put together a very nice, hilly, (1700+ of ascent over the
32mile option) route with options to skip some the hills.

Our post ride conversation was as entertaining as usual. No Cop No
Stop?

This information from Roger Salyers...

Ron,

Perhaps you would want to distribute this link to the group. It goes to
the TriWI web site and provides information on the Lannon Park Ride time
and location and a link to the Q sheets for the rides of various
lengths. I haven't made it there yet this year so I don't know exactly
which route they are following or how many people are showing up but I
recall they do try to leave promptly. The site also lists some rules of
the road we are probably all familiar with but a review never hurts.

http://www.triwisconsin.org/content/view/47/103/

Best regards and have a good ride,

Roger Salyers

Thanks Roger

The roads are wet and it looks like they will be getting wetter. Stay
tuned for next weeks plan.
A few of us are planning to ride with WI Tri group out of Lannon
tomorrow night. They ride at 6pm and I believe they roll at 6pm sharp.
I have also heard the group splits up a bit so there should be different
average speeds. I don't think they provide maps. It is also a larger
group than our Mondays so keep safety and ride etiquette in mind if you
show.

Meeting place is Lannon Park on Lannon Rd (Cty Hwy Y) about 1/3 mile
north of Good Hope Rd.

We're going to give Sloppy Joe's another try as a start point. We're
also going to have two ride routes for the Holy Hill area. One
challenging, one not so challenging.

A dozen riders had an enjoyable and scenic ride around the Holy Hill
area. The after ride refueling at Sloppy Joes proved to be more
challenging than the hills of Holy Hill. I talked to the manager the
next day and he said they were surprised by number of people that
showed up on a Monday night, thus the shortage of kitchen and wait
staff. He said they should be better prepared next Monday.

Look for another email later this week for details on next Monday's
ride location.

Here's the link for the Janesville Rotary Club Pie Ride. A few of
you have expressed interest in maybe doing the ride.

Between Sitzmarks and my women's cycling group there are at least
6-10 riders so far that will be doing either the 50K or 100K.

The organizer told me that besides the whole pie that you receive
at the end, the rest stops also feature great homemade cookies.

I know of a few of us doing the Trek (Sat) and the Miller (Sun) this

before the ride. Or call immediately after the ride to connect for post

No formal ride this coming Memorial Day Monday 5/28. A few of us may do
a recon ride on Tuesday to work out a new Holy Hill route that will work
with a new park&ride and post-ride refueling depot.

This past Monday, our 1st HH ride of the season seemed to be enjoyed by
all - even Roy who really kicked *^(%)_. I learned that Ann has a route
of her own that we now call "Ann's Hills Are Your Friend Route".
Fortunately Ann's stories from work took the edge off of the armature
service at our refuel site. Did you have cheese on that pork, or was it
on the chicken, maybe that was the other table. Oh well, plenty of good
popcorn.

I will need to send out the meeting location of our next ride after the
pending recon run.
Give me a call Tuesday if you are interested in the pending recon run.
Afternoon will be best as I will be getting back from out of town
sometime in the afternoon.

15 of us headed out last night in record high temps for May14th (high
80's), which was a good feeling! 15 riders may also be a record high!
Our post ride refueling was hosted by Ron and Jan at there home. A nice
spread of Happy Birthday goodies were provided by Mike (Birthday Boy)
and Dawn. Thanks for the share. Mike was also the hard-core rider of
the evening sporting a pair of my sandals since he left his biking shoes
at home. I know the feeling from years ago when my shoes were at home
and I wore Steve's work boots. Way to go Mike... Dale was also in the
hard core class with a very old bike, no helmet, no gloves. Way to go
Dale. I'm sure the "Hip" wine after the ride helped ease the pain of
these conditions.

Since we have started to wear a grove in the road on this Nashotah
Golden-Lake ride and our legs are begging for a few hills we are
planning to get started on our Holy Hill ride/s. For those that may
not be ready to hit the hills don't stay home as there are ways to
significantly reduce the hill riding. The hills are also a great work
out :-).

Meet: Uncle Jonnies Bar in Lake Five.

!!!!!!!!!For those that took Hwy Q in the past it is under construction
so check out the new route below:

From Milwaukee take I-94 or Capitol Dr. West to Hwy 164. Take Hwy 164
North (about 11 mi from I-94, about 9 mi from Capitol Dr.) to Hwy Q west
to Bar on the North side of Hwy Q (about 0.25 miles west of Hwy 164 and
Hwy Q and intersection.

Note the ride time change...We have more light and it is a little longer
drive to our "park and ride".

Time: Meet 6:15, Ride 6:30

Hope to see you there.

Women out-numbered the Men this past Monday night 6-4. You Go Girls!! It seems
we split into multi-speed groups where most had a group to ride with. We also
had new riders which led to an interesting, fun, and friendly initiation to the
group. I will say no more about this initiation in-order to draw in the
curiosity-driven new riders. So, when you come to a Monday ride for the first
time, be sure to ask about INITIATION.

For Gary N. the evening was a triathlon and beyond event as he completed most of
the ride (phase 1) before having a flat. He accepted offer to be picked up by
me by vehicle (we were not to far from my home). Well, before I got to him he
walked (phase 2) most of the ways to my house (about ½ mile Gary) due to a
shower getting in between my truck and I. Phase 3 was the truck ride (about ¾
mile) to his car at our "park and ride" -Red Circle Inn and Refueling site
--Nashotah Club House. Gary went beyond the call of a Monday Night Biker by
walking that ½ mile distance and saving me the expense of Gas while I suffered
in a warm shower! Thanks, and welcome back to the Monday Night Rides Gary...

For next week, same thing minus flat tires, showers, walks etc.

Meet: Red Circle Inn Parking Lot, Nashotah

Directions: From Milwaukee, I-94 west to Hwy 16 west to Hwy C (about 10 miles,
next exit after Hwy 83) south to Red Circle Inn (south west corner of the stop
sign intersection).

Time: Meet 6:00, ride 6:15

For those not familiar:
* We ride 20 - 30 miles (shorter options are available). Maps are provided.
* Our pace ranges from average of 15 to 20 mph.
* We do not focus on staying together as one group so it is a matter of grouping
with a person or several at your pace.
* We also go out for food and drink after the rides.
* Please have your bike in good repair as we have limited resources and time for

The sky's looked a bit threatening Monday night, especially to the
north, but eight of us fit our ride in ahead of the rain. In fact we
were enjoying our dinner and drinks when the deluge started. How sweet
the rain... after the ride.

We are seeing a few more of the Gal's this year for more of a co-ed
balance... You go Girl/s! Is that what I am supposed to say?

Our group's decision is to ride this route again. For any of the Miller
Ride folks this is a nice training route as it is relatively flat as are
the Miller Ride Routes.

5 of us had a good 1st Monday night ride last night with temps in the
mid 50's and plenty of sunshine. We had just enough light for everyone
to complete a 27mile loop. Refueling and abnormal conversation was our
post ride activity at the popular Nashotah Club House located in the
sprawling metropolis of Nashotah. Next week we shall boldly return to
Nashotah to repeat as follows.

Welcome back to outdoor biking season! With the warm temps and extended

decisions the day of before committing to every Monday.

Hi I am wondering if I should invest in a set of aerobars. I commute
around the city quite often and I plan on doing some long rides this
summer. I woukd like to know if they make the ride more or less
comfortable. And how much they will actually get used. Thank you in
advance B.K.

Check out http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=531705

This is an Eisner Museum exhibit.

Jim Reilly is planning a visit as follows:
Join me for the November 30th Ale House / Eisner Museum tour event I'm
hosting. Meet at the Ale House between 5:15PM and 6:00 PM (note the new
meeting times)for drinks. Take a short walk down Water Street to the
Eisner Museum. Cost for the self guided tour will be $4.50 or less,
depending on how many people have discount coupons from the Gold C book.
I have one to share. We'll have nearly 2 hours to browse the exhibits,
before returning to the Ale House for dinner (Entertainment Book coupon
A268)

I'm hoping to Join Jim for the tour... Thanks for this information Jim!
