We had a wonderfully hot ride last night. I guess it was in the mid 90's when
we rolled out a little after 6:30pm. It seemed to feel just about as warm when
we rolled back in a little after 8pm. With all the heat, we had no pass-outs,
lots of sweat, and nice limber muscles. We continue to capture videos and
photos of our rides. Steve has the video equipment which gets strapped to a
seat-post-mount bike rack. I had the honors of the gear on my bike last night.
So, Steve finally had the opportunity to be in the scene! There will likely be
an opportunity to view our production at a ski club meeting in the coming year -
stay tuned. Next week we will continue our tour of Holy Hill.
Meet: Uncle Jonnies Bar in Lake Five. From Milwaukee take Hwy 41/45 North to
Hwy Q (north end of Menomonee Falls) west (about 7 miles) to Bar on the North
side of Hwy Q about 0.25 miles west of Hwy Q and Hwy
164 intersections.
Time: Meet 6:15, Ride 6:30
Shortcut options are provided for those that do not want to ride the entire
route.
A big day in the Tour de France today as described below from velo news web site
http://www.velonews.com/tour2006/news/articles/10131.0.html
Course: There's no more spectacular finish than the 21-turn, 14km climb to
L'Alpe d'Huez. This year it comes at the end of an already demanding 187km stage
that climbs the hors-cat Col d'Izoard (14km at 7 percent) at 86km and Cat. 2 Col
du Lautaret (12km at 4.4 percent) at 134km.
Then comes more than 30km of mainly descending roads, which will likely see the
race come back together before the assault on the Alpe (14km at almost 8
percent).
Our most challenging Holy Hill climbs include 7-8 percent portions but are only
about ¼ mile - ½ mile long. 14km = 8.7mile! Feel the pain...
