Oh what a ride! We had about a dozen riders ranging from the three psychos
to lets smell the roses. The three psychos, Steve (Yellow Jersey), George
(Da Hammer) and Ron (Smokin) managed a 21.5 mph average up to the 25 mile
point at which time I needed to slow down to find my legs! Steve and George
managed to finish the ride (about 30 miles) at a 21.4 mph average! The
remainder of the group broke into several packs to ride at different paces
and different distances and reported having good workouts and enjoyable
rides. As usual, we finished the evening with traditional cocktail and
dinner refueling which was accompanied by "oxygen deprivation"
conversation/humor.
Next Week: Same Time Same Place
Meet: Red Circle Inn Parking Lot, Nashotah
Time: Meet 6:15, ride 6:30
Directions: From Milwaukee, I-94 west to Hwy 16 west to Hwy C (about 10
miles, next exit after Hwy 83) south to Red Circle Inn (south west corner of
the stop sign intersection).
Reminder for those that have not rode this route, it is relatively flat.
Friendly Info: As it is starting to get dark sooner you may want to
consider a flashing rear light and/or a white headlight. Also, a bike bag
for beneath the seat containing spare tube, patch kit, tire tools, etc.
should be carried to avoid a LONG, LONG walk or wait for pick-up in the case
of a flat tire. A frame pump is also a necessity unless you have the best
of lungs to blow up your tire. :-). Finally, you may try airing tires and
generally checking your bike over before heading to the ride to avoid a
wasted trip in the event that something is broke or in need of adjustment.
