South Island Road Cycling is a forum for Road Cyclists in Hong Kong. Morning rides on the empty streets of HK Island before most people would even think of getting out of bed (& we are glad that they don't!) are what we do best.
Scheduled rides (Tues, Weds & Thurs) are posted by email usually on a Sunday evening; Sat ride plans are posted thru' the week with a summary on Friday at some point. These rides are group rides & generally will re-group at intervals; the faster rides may not but this is agreed before the ride departs. Our quarterly Tour of Pain is 110km of Island hills with c.2500m of ascent & a KOM competition. Nice. We also have regular time trials (flat & hilly) & team time trials thru' the year organised on an ad hoc basis.
Other ad hoc rides are posted by & for members of this group. When posting a ride, it is important to
1 Show up
2 Stick to the plan (no 50kph pace line if you have posted a recovery ride).
Safety is of highest importance to us. Proper lights & a helmet are a MUST. HK roads are narrow, there are plenty of potholes & manhole covers that can bring you down & you are not always as visible as you think. The only thing that WE can control is the way we behave on the road. All riders participate on their own risk.
Scheduled rides on the Island have one fixed meeting point, which is the Shell gas/petrol station at Wong Nai Chung Gap (next to HK Cricket Club), but ad hoc rides can have any meeting point; for rides at Tung Cheung the Airport Express terminal in IFC2 because we can take our bikes on the train.
Mid-week rides are early with the aim of getting us home around 7am.

We look forward to seeing you on the road.
We welcome all to our rides; if you are new to HK the Tues Peak ride is a good intro; if you are new to riding in a group then let us know - we will be happy to see you get looked after - nobody has gone home in a cab yet (on a first ride)!
