League One club Southend United have made a £250,000 bid for Plymouth Argyle's
out-of-favour striker Rory Fallon.

It is believed the Pilgrims have accepted the offer for the 25-year-old,
although there has been no confirmation of that from the club.

Fallon was signed for Argyle by former boss Ian Holloway from Swansea City for
£300,000 last January.

He has made only nine starts for the Pilgrims since then, plus 21 substitute
appearances, and scored a total of three goals.

Southend previously tried to sign Fallon when he moved from Swindon to Swansea
in January 2006.

I agree with most fans 250 grand for Rory is well worth taking. He will never
cut it at this level, he,s just not good enough. I dont think he has had a fair
crack but if he was good he would have. I like Rory as a guy but fair play to
the most under rated manager ever, Paul Sturrock, for making immediate decisions
on players who are just not good enough. I agree it would be nice to be linked
with good named players but when that happens the price goes through the roof.
Paul has my vote in getting decent players not names.
john, milehouse

Blimey - and it's only Jan 3rd. As for rumours (which might not be true) what
about Luggy being reunited with Peter Crouch and Argyle stocking a range of
extra long shirts. Wotton off to LA Galaxy to help his recovery and keep the
bench warm with Becks. Whatever the rumours about Chadders I hope he doesn't go
as he gives 100% and just needs a good run without an injury. The other reason
is he's probably not that saleable so we might as well see what he can offer for
2008. We might be surprised!
Ben, Bristol

moan! moan! moan! Cry! Cry! Cry! Good luck to Fallon.
Lee, Plymouth

lets take the money for fallon he never cut it i dont know why hollowords
brought him as he lost faith in him as for luggys run of games lets give him
time but remember he aint signed a contract yet so maybe hes only a stop gap
with a view to see if he cuts it at this level at least his words arnt lies and
use argyle to better? things i bet at the end of the season hollowords will be
wishing he was still here if he lasts that longluggy jumped ship b4 thinking
grass was greener i dont think he will do so againstapleton give him money to
spend and lets move forward

Unbelievable. Bring back Taribo West.....
Bell ringer, Plymouth

Hearld headline today head "LUGGY WANTS NEW FACES", in the window so far we have
sold, sold, sold. Granted none of them are a complete waste, £1.5 million for
Gosling, a profit on Hayles, 3 players released who were draining the wage bill
(alright that was in Decemeber - but you get it), Fallon, Rumours about
Chadwick, Martin not fully comfirmed for the rest of the season, Halmosi wanted
by Wigan and Akos signing fully for QPR. NEW FACES??? Argyle have a small squad
as it is! Bringing in an Everton teenager on loan is not good enough! The club
are NEVER linked with anyone, from the outside looking in anyone would liken it
to rats off a sinking ship. The only new face in the article today is that
Exeter lad. Two goals in the Blue Square Premier... not the kind of player that
a top 6 Championship side need. The club need to market themselves better.
Theres no good news coming out of Home Park. Give us some transfer rumours to
get excited about, they might not lead to be true but give the fans some hope!
Shaun, Plymstock

Fallon has not been given a chance, barry hayles had over 20 starts this season
with 2 goals. Fallon had 7 starts with 2 goals... if you knew anything about
football ud realise it;s a fickle game, managers can make or break a
player...Luggy has tried to break this guy...at least holloway would inspire his
players, this sturrock is a bit too quiet for me... the players dont play for
him, they did for holloway
jigga, central

As a Swans fan I was surprised that we paid Swindon £300k for Fallon and shocked
that we we managed to sell him on to Plymouth for the same amount especially as
Plymouth were a league higher and that he could not get in our side at the time.
So as you can imagine I'm staggered to hear that Saarfind are coughing up £250k
for him!! To slow, cannot jump, poor positioning and lack of goals were his weak
points (apart from that he was great). Seriously though he did show flashes of
talent and had a few good games when his confidence was up but these was all too
infrequent, but I'll never forget his overhead kick goal in the play-off final
against Barnsley though the less said about that match the better!
Ton Jack, Tonyrefail

I think fallon was more than a name on the teamsheet. My insider info tells me
that he was key to raising squad morale following the departure of holloway. He
will be sadly missed. Rory please don't leave use, I know you have a good
following in block 12. We will miss your mercurial dynamism in the box.
Bobby, Treasure

Good luck to him. Fallon was never going to cut it at this level and if £250,000
is correct then this is good business for a very average player who looked lazy
at times.
Anthony Sherlock, Tavistock

Whoooooaaaahh! ROAR-EE!!! Will always remember that diving header away to Hull.
Just wish he'd been given more of a chance to prove himself at the club. We'll
miss you on the touchline Rory, you're a top man. Good luck wherever you end up.
Andy, Plymouth

Agree with Owen, Rory was never given a chance including under Holloway who
signed him,so what chance did he have under Luggy.?
Sai, Plymouth

Blimey people give the guy a chance. I'd say Rory should bite Southend's hand
off for the chance to get away the way he's getting treated!! He's done a decent
job when called on, unfortunately it's usually a 4 minute cameo at the end when
a game is petering out - no-one can impress when that's all they're given. Good
luck Rory, shame to see you go without really seeing what you're capable of.
Hope it works out well for you at Southend.
Owen Jones, Plymouth

As a Southend fan, I'm optimistic about this. Fallon put in a brilliant
performance against us for Swansea just 18 months ago and has usually impressed
when I've seen him in other matches. He's not had a great time of it at
Plymouth, or at Swansea for that matter, but he's the sort of player that we
need with the way that we play. He's not a pretty footballer and he's the sort
that fans often don't take to but Tilly obviously rates him having been in for
him before and that's good enough for me.
Anthony Cameron, Southend

Arry - Why would we want to double Gillingham's bid of £250k if that was
accepted? Surely we'd be stupid to pay any more if they've accepted that! I take
your point though - for £250k he does seem worth a gamble.
Guy, Plymouth

just take the cash,he'll never get a run in the team, rightly or wrongly,so we
must cash in
james, plymouth

Those saying the worst targetman ever are obviously too young to remember Stuart
Evans, that said take the money and run. I am not going to say told you so yet
but re-read Green Harry from Newquays comments again, thats far more worrying
than getting rid of the deadwood!!!!!
Terry Bent, Barbados

Gotta agree with Paul, Fallon has been completely awful. I have never seen such
a big striker be so poor in the air. He brings absolutely nothing to the team:
no pace, doesn't win headers, doesn't score goals, looks like a rugby player who
turned up at the wrong ground. If Southend are daft enough then take the money
and run away laughing!!
DB, Crownhill

What a bunch of whiners all you do is moan about something you pay to go and
watch.Have to say Sturrocks team have lost a few since he s been in charge.
Thanks god the speedway season is nearly here.
Santa, Lapland

Well said PlymTel. I am not Fallon's biggest fan by any stretch of the
imagination, by I don't think he was given a lot of opportunity. I remember when
Judas Hollowords signed Easter, he stated that "he could play well with Fallon -
just off his shoulder". Perhaps that is what Judas had in mind? I saw The Greens
away at West Brom in January 07 & Fallon scored a cracking goal. However, when
all is said and done, lets snap Southend's hand off! £250K for a player like
Fallon is worth taking a £50K loss on. A mate of mine in Swansea really couldn't
believe that we had paid £300K for him in the first place!!! Now, if only we
could get rid of Chadwick.......
Tony, Peverell

The worst target man I have ever seen at any level, poor control, doesn't win
headers, and cannot lead the line successfully! Whoever recommended this muppet
in the first place should be hounded down and ran out of fottball all together!
A loss of £50k is worthwhile and I for one would snap southends hand off for
that money for a player like that!!! Paul Lyndhurst, Plymstock ME!

I do not think Rory Fallon had a fair crack of the whip at Plymouth Argyle.
Whether or not he is a good player he certainly does not deserve the critics
that has been levelled at him and that goes for certain other players. Not to
long ago a certain England player a Mr Crouch had the same treatment and look at
what a player he is now. Any player that sign for Plymouth Argyle and does their
best should cheered and encouraged rather than suffer personal abuse
plymtel, plymouth

Shhhhhhhhhhhssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!Wait till he's gone
Mahatmacoat, Lyndhurst

Good Luck in your new club Rory.
TG, Plymstock
