Forty police officers descended on Southend United headquarters Roots
Hall this morning to execute a dawn raid.

Raids were also carried out in Gloucestershire and Warwickshire in
connection with a nationwide fraud enquiry.

Gloucestershire police, who are masterminding the operation, have
arrested a 46-year-old man from Brockworth, Gloucestershire.

He is now being quizzed by officers on suspicion of corruption and
money laundering.

A police spokesman said the police activity at Roots Hall is nothing
to do with the day to day footballing activities at the club.
