I have been studying martial arts since the age of 16, when I was in
boarding school and I am now 40, going on 41 :)
I started with Judo and Savate (being French it was an easy one) at the same
time and I had the opportunity combining the two in a fight early on at the
boarding school I was... You know the older ones picking on the youngest and
being one of the youngest and tallest I was an easy target.
Anyway I moved to the US in 1991 and found my way to kempo in 2000 and I
have not stopped since.
I teach at my instructor's school and also at a friend's school in WA state.

I honestly don't recall when my first experience in martial arts began. it was
a short period when I was six or seven... my mothers way of giving me something
constructive to do while she ran errands. I began shaolin kempo cerca 1994. In
1998 I left my first SHAOLIN KEMPO school to attend college where I also
experienced a few other martial arts including kung fu and capoeira.
I returned to shaolin kempo a few years ago and hardly needed a refresher due to
my diligent practice in absentia. I am currently an instructor at my school and
love every moment of it.

Greetings,
My name is Joseph Pierro and I have been asked to clear up and issue
so here goes.
In July 2005 I was Awarded a PhD in Martial Arts from the World
Martial Arts Hall of Fame, sokeship, Head of Families and
Grandmasters Council. This was Awarded to me by a Grandmaster Robert
Braff he is a Rep from that association. This was awarded to me at
the World Karate union Hall of Fame. I was told it was for my years
of dedication to the martial arts. I said thank you and filed the
award with a great many other thing I have been given, it was at the
urging of a few masters and grandmasters that I know that I framed
and started to use it. I was told due to my rank it was something I
should I should use Its a piece of paper most people don't have.
If I have offended anyone by this I will happily have honorary put
behind the PhD on the site.
The ISKKA is all about helping SKK schools if this helps then so be
it.
Honoray PhD are given all the time to Presidents and Congressmen and
Important People By Four Year Universities I have two students who
have Honoray PhD from a university.
Hope this helps

I was wondering about the PHD for Master Pierro myself. I have much respect for all masters and professors I have met and trained with/under, but it's really just an Americanized title. I have many friends who train in different systems and the only "Master" is the head of the system, and he passes that title on before he passes away. In our SKK system, 5th degree earns us the rank of master, but my friends who are 5th or higher in other systems still refer to themselves as sensei or sifu. It all depends on what system you study. And then you have the "McDojo" masters and grandmasters who use titles for monetary gain to impress existing and would be students.
Nonononononono, a PHD is a doctorate or a post doc, usually about 5 years on
the top of a Masters degree...
A PHD is not an honorary title at all...
A professor is one thing, a PHD is entirely another thing...

Im witnessing a new trend. There are some SKK that are attempting to
create "clubs" and such. One of those masters (Joseph Pierro) I spoke
with has for a reason to organize the material, another was to make it
easier for SKK schools to make money... http://www.iskka.com/ is the
clubs website.
Other SKK Masters aren't so willing to follow and join this group.
Maybe over time this will change. I have heard rumors that Prof I may
be thinking about doing a club that is like this which would compete
with Ma Pierros.
It seems if its not one thing, its another.
Feel free to check out the skk site and if your interested hit Ma

Im witnessing a new trend. There are some SKK that are attempting to
create "clubs" and such. One of those masters (Joseph Pierro) I spoke
with has for a reason to organize the material, another was to make it
easier for SKK schools to make money... http://www.iskka.com/ is the
clubs website.
Other SKK Masters aren't so willing to follow and join this group.
Maybe over time this will change. I have heard rumors that Prof I may
be thinking about doing a club that is like this which would compete
with Ma Pierros.
It seems if its not one thing, its another.

I've been including mixed martial arts training in the advanced
classes for a while now. I think SK's closing and tripping techniques
work to our advantage. What has been really a boon is finishing moves
on the ground. That's where I feel SK has the greatest weakness.

Thank you Sifu Bry for your reply,
The 36 hands kata that i learned, was exsplained to me, to be mearly
the salutation to atleast 3 more sections. I was told i would learn
the other sections as I achived different degrees of black belt.
The form opens with a salutation like the opening of Circle of the
Tiger kata or the Plum Tree blocking system. The foot work after is
mostly very basic, you half moon forward left then right doing #1 and
#2 blocks of the 8pt and front two knuckle punches, then you enter
into blade stance with the blocks/strikes described above as you
strike your targets in the back, the left side, the right side,
forward, then you half moon back twice, hands come to your sides and
you bow. That's it in a nut shell. It's a good low form like Kata 6,
but this section is very short. If you would like it in more detail
I'd be happy to share.
I was surprised to see that someone knew the 2 man kata. Mine is
extreemly rusty. May I ask which side you have, mine is the offence
side. I would like to hear about it so I could see if what i learned
meshes with your particular one.
Again that you for your time and consideration,
Chris
Oh, I am a 1st dan, getting ready, i hope, for my 2nd dan.lol

I know the 2 man kata. I don't know the sword exercises nor the 2 man
bo form. Can you describe 36 hands? I sound familiar.
Sifu Bry
Hi everyone,
I was hoping that some of you would know the following forms. Sword
Exercise B, 36 hands, 2 man kata or a 2 man Bo form. I have tried to
find them online but to little avail. I was really hoping to re-learn
them. I learned them at Bob Meserves, back in MA, about 10 years ago.
Thank you for any leads or help.
