Re: [Shaolin Kempo] (unknown)

I would stay away from Tae Kwon Do becasue of its
limtied self defense applicability....plus over time
the high kicks will be really bad on your knees. For
self defense purposes I would take Kempo. Even though
the class might be big it is still a simple yet
effective art. Do you know the name of the school? I
might know about them if you do. Hapkido is a korean
art similar to Tae Kwon Do but has more joint
locks...it is better than Tae Kwon Do but I would be
leary of the high-kick style becasue of the affect on
the knees. Tai Chi is a slow form (I used to teach
it) and unless you are wanting something slow motion
than I would stay away from it. Being a female, you
have to make sure that no matter where you go you must
feel comfortable. Always watch a class first and see
how the instructors treat the oteher students. Male
karate instructors are known to think they are "all
that" and flirt a lot. I owned a school for 10 years
and most of my colleuges dated students or cheated on
thier wives with them (I never did but was approached
many times by female students). Im not trying yo
scare you but that is the reality of it. Try and find
an instructor that you feel comfortable
with...preferably a married one (though in these days
even the married ones flirt). Good luck and please
feel free to ask any more questions.
Matt
