Re: Offensive Shaolin Kempo

While it is true that courtesy and respect for
yourself, others and your martial art, demands that one
avoid life and death situations at (almost) any cost;
there may be a time one there is no other choice but to
fight. Kempo offense is found in all of the defensive
techniquues as well as kata. To use a kempo, number, or
shaolin technique offensively turn the initial block into
an entering guard or strike. So, the kempoka decides
which side to attack on and when the opening or moment
presents itself, attack. It naturally follows that in
practice one must practice to win. Your uke, while working
with you must only react to proper acurate technique.
Doing your forms with the intent to defeat each
attacker at a time also helps. Focus and intent while
training is the key. Know what you are doing and
why...i.e.what strike, what stance, where exactly to strike,
what does this do, why are you doing this thing this
way. Question yourself to find the answers. Test your
answers on many different ukes. Finally, check with your
sifu to see if your understanding makes sense.
All
this done, you will be prepared for any attack that
you were not able to avoid even though all your
effort had been put into never coming to a point of
violence.
Just my opinion.
Has anyone read G.Funakoshi's
autobiography?
