Dear Umpires,
First of all, I want to wish you a Happy New Year and it is time to start to focus on the upcoming season.
This is a friendly reminder that it is getting close and it is time to dust of our gear and get ready for the season. Our first meeting will be at South Pasadena High School on Saturday, February 5, 2008 at 9:00 AM. Vendors will be there early so you can pick up any new equipment and/or accessories. You will receive you kits that day as well, and Ron Sowers will go over the rule changes for 2008.
To let you know ahead of time, Saturday February 23, 2008 is the day for our mandatory scrimmage. If you are going to miss this scrimmage, please let the Board know, as attending the scrimmage is mandatory. There have been scrimmages during the following week (prior to the first games) in the past, but we can't always count on that. We need to use these scrimmages as a valuable learning tool and to get game ready for those first games that start on Friday, February 29, 2008.
We will welcome our new Board members for this season: Carlos "Meat" Salazar and Darren Winkley. Sergio Hernandez was elected to serve, but he relocated and no longer is working in the San Gabriel Valley Unit, so Bob Branson was appointed to remain on the Board for this season. We will elect a new Vice President (four year commitment, two as VP and two as Pres.) at the last general meeting and Dave Dubuque will be the new President after this season, also Secretary-Treasurer (one year), and two new at-large Board Members (two-years) as well as one more at-large Board Member (one year) to finish out Sergio's spot. Nominations will be at the March 3, 2008 meeting.
Remember to renew your liability insurance for this season. There is a link on the unit's website (see below) for insurance carriers as well as checking out the calendar for this season.
I also want to remind you to block out any dates in The Arbiter and update any information as well. Also let Chris McNeese know of any changes. Using The Arbiter is very convenient to make any updates and changes. There is a link to The Arbiter there as well.
If you know of any umpires that are currently not working HS ball and would like to, invite them to the Feb 5 meeting. Also if you know of any official from other sports or youth associations, invite them as well.
Have a great season,
Steve
