I was asleep at the computer when the initial information about the
17th of August was put out. I can;t seem to find any information at
the sfrandonneurs.org site either. Where and what time is this
happening?

Sorry,

- Steve

Stupid email!

Forgot to add:

Any East Bay riders that could give Zach a ride to the event Sunday?

Hope to see you there Zach, and hoping to see lots of carpoolers.
There will be plenty of
parking there on Sunday, but even still, it seems more fun to travel
with a group to the ride
start.

RUSA is offering a medal for RUSA members who finish the brevets on
the weekend of August 16-17th (celebrating RUSA's 10th Anniversary).
SFR does not pre-order medals for it's events. Riders who are RUSA
members and who finish the August 17th brevet can order medals
through RUSA *once the results have been submitted and the databases
updated*. This can take a week or more, so please be patient.

RUSA will take orders up until September 14th, then place the order
with the medal manufacturer. Medals should be sent sometime in late
October.

If you are not yet a RUSA member, and are interested in getting a
medal for the ride, please send in your RUSA application (to RUSA)
now.

             Mike,

If you cancel out of any events, I'm going to put you on double secret

probation, and

not tell you, so you better show up with your bike. Fair warning!!!!

Also, just to be clear, my offer to pay for several of your entry fees

(out of my pocket,

not SFR funds!) was in return for the bike parts you gave me, *not*

for volunteering for SFR brevets.

Yesterday there was an exchange that was mistakenly thought to be off
list but wasn't. I fear that there may be some misconceptions
generated
by what was in those postings so I wanted to clarify some of the
details about volunteering for SFR. I'm looking on my contribution to
that goof as
an opportunity to let riders know some of what volunteering for SFR entails.

These rides don't happen on their own. People, mostly club members,
but often past riders or significant others of members, contribute
time
and effort to making these events work. Personally, I contribute my
time and effort because I have gotten so much out of participating in
the SFR rides that I want to give something back. I strongly suspect
that the other volunteers are motivated by the same reasons.

For some SFR rides (so far these have only been the 200km events)
there will be workers rides, held on a different date from
the main event. Any SFR rider who volunteers for a day of event task,
or another task prior to the event and of significant benefit
to the event can ride the workers ride for no fee. So far, support and
ridership on the workers rides have not allowed or suggested
that workers rides can be pulled off for the longer (>200km) events.
When those workers rides are held within the scheduling criteria of
RUSA,
the riders can have their ride completion turned in for credit on the
day of the main event.

Volunteers who support SFR brevets can have expenses reimbursed when
incurred in support of the rides. Examples of expenses reimbursed
include food volunteers brought for the finishing riders, fuel costs
for driving to and from support of the event, bridge tolls, and
equipment
purchased directly for SFR events.

Previous SFR RBAs have also given volunteers who supported SFR events
a RUSA polo shirt as thanks for their contribution. I'm hoping
to do something similar after the season has completed and as funds allow.

The Bay Area is blessed with having several clubs offering brevets
through the year. With clubs so near, coordination of events is
necessary so that ride dates don't collide. The RUSA 10th anniversary
ride however was planned by RUSA for a single weekend. The Santa Cruz
Randonneurs and SFR agreed to let the volunteers for one event ride
the other event that same weekend for no fee. There may be more of
that
done in the future, but hasn't been discussed yet.

I'm open to other ideas for ways to encourage a steady support for SFR
events in the future.

Mike,

on the 17th?
Do you need me to pay your fee for SCR? Let me know. As for the 17th,
if you haven't already
sent in the reg form, have one made out to turn in at the ride start.
I'll have a card waiting
for you. You are covered for that ride.

Hey everyone,

I'm hoping to make the 200km on the 30th. It would be great to ride
this along with several other
SFR riders. We had at least five of us on this route back this spring.
Let's see what we can
do to help make the RBA probationary period a success for the new RBA
there. The route is
a good one.

We are moving information for Santa Rosa brevets to the SRCC club website,
http://srcc.memberlodge.com/

Attached is the registration form for our 2 quick 'rookie RBA qual' rides this
month. We are accepting day-of registration, but a quick email that you're
coming would help preparation, especially for the supported lunch control on the
200k.

Sun, Aug 24th 100k 0830 start $2 gratuity
Sat, Aug 30th 200k 0700 start $20 fee

Both rides will start at the Healdsburg City Hall and end at Bear Republic.

I really appreciate your support.

Does anyone know of a source or listing of the 'Park and Ride'
locations in the greater Bay Area? I'm hoping to find
locations (addresses) as well as parking lot size, and links to public transit.

Thanks Paul. I'll go check mine, too. I think they are 2004/5.

Willy,

The road name does *not* change, but your point is still quite valid.
There is a stop sign
at the purple bridge where Platform Bridge and Point Reyes-Petaluma
road intersect,
and 'on the ground' at that point, you take a left after stopping. If
you've done
the 200 or 300 this year, or last year, you've made this turn before.

Remind me to announce this in the pre-ride chat at 6:50 that morning.

Rob,
The route looks great. One suggestion for those not familier with the route is
after the Marshall store. You show 9ish miles to the left turn on Pt
Reyes/Petaluma rd then the right turn on Nicassio.
Either you are missing the turn at the purple bridge or the name does not change
but you still have to make a decision there.

Hi all,

I am getting the finishing touches to a map of this route at
bikely.com. I will send the link later today so you can access it. For
those using GPS devices you can export bikely maps into formats
compatible with most GPS toys, er devices.

My suggestion for food, salty chips and maybe coke and/or stale coffee.

The following is not nicely formatted, but will give riders a pretty
good idea of what the
route will be. Carlos will be uploading a formated version of the cue
sheet, which will
include control times, later this week. Note that the route is 205 km.

I got back from a trip yesterday morning (then went straight to work) but found
a wad of registrations waiting for me at home. I'll have a list of
registered riders
for Carlos to post later this week.

No promises here, but let me know of your suggestions for post ride
food and fluids
to have on hand.

A few of you have sent me questions in the last week and I'm guessing
others are wondering where I am and what I'm doing as the next brevet
approaches. I've been out of town (Seattle) for the last 7 days and
will return to SF
on the 4th. I'll begin to get caught up on things later that day.

Looking forward to the brevet on the 17th. I believe we have pretty much a
full roster of volunteers for the start/finish control, though feel
free to check
with Mark Behning about that and the October 4th brevet. The entries for
the Aug. brevet were beginning to pile up just before I left so I'm guessing
we'll have a good crowd.

Actually a 62cm frame might work also.

Hello SFR'ers:

I'm looking for a used/budget 60cm (measured center-to-top) lugged
steel road frame (58-60cm top tube length) for a project 650B
conversion. I need a common/typical, Japanese-built racing bike from
the mid-to-late 1980s, built for 700C wheels, 1-inch fork, short-reach
recessed brakes, down-tube shifter mounts, dual bottle cages,
126/130mm rear spacing, and ideally built from decent tubing (Tange
#2, Columbus SL/SP, Reynolds 531). Something like an old Trek,
Univega, Miyata, Bianchi, Centurion, Schwinn, Nishiki, Fuji, etc.
Cosmetics unimportant, but no major rust or structural damage please.
If there's no fork, that's not a problem -- I have a low-trail
replacement fork that I'm planning on using.

Thanks!
