I completely concur w/ Rob here. I did the SF series, ending in April. Following
the 600k, I felt like I wanted a "break" to heal both physically and mentally.
This turned into subsequent weight gain and less than optimal performance on the
doubles I proceeded to take on. In retrospect, I would recommend planning out a
few long-distance events in your PBP preparation schedule following early-enough
brevets so that you don't lose your conditioning. Regardless of what you feel
you can do before Aug. '07, I would recommend keeping in mind these early
brevets so that if something happens and you can't complete one, you'll be left
w/ a bit of "buffer time" in which to make it up. Of course, this is just me,
YMMV.

for PBP at the Davis 200 and 300 k fall brevets?
I'm not sure what advantage one would gain by starting to accumulate their
qualifying brevet kilometers this far out from the event. The SF Randonneurs
starts it's series early enough should you feel the spring is too short for
the full series. Personally I'd worry about too long of a lay off without
the motivation of the full series closer to the 1200, or, burnout before the
1200 with so long of a time frame in which to pack long rides. No doubt though
this is at least in part a personal perspective.
