I'm not sure what advantage one would gain by starting to accumulate their
qualifying brevet kilometers this far out from the event. The SF Randonneurs
starts it's series early enough should you feel the spring is too short for
the full series. Personally I'd worry about too long of a lay off without
the motivation of the full series closer to the 1200, or, burnout before the
1200 with so long of a time frame in which to pack long rides. No doubt though
this is at least in part a personal perspective.

I completely concur w/ Rob here. I did the SF series, ending in April. Following the 600k, I felt like I wanted a "break" to heal both physically and mentally....

I took a break after completing my brevet series down here in FL. I didn't gain any weight but I certainly lost motivation to ride some 1000K and 1200k...
