Hello SFR members and riders,
We are less than three weeks away from our first 2009 event, the
traditional Pt. Reyes Lighthouse/Marshall Store ride. Details are
falling into place, all except one important one. I need volunteers
for the controls on the dates of the rides. Starting with the January
ride, I need the following volunteers:
Saturday, Jan. 24th: 200km brevet
Start control, Rider check in, 6:30am to 8am GG Bridge (Notes:
Officially, the control is open for one hour after the riders leave.
If all riders have checked in and left at 7am, we can wrap this up
then.)
Point Reyes Lighthouse control 9am to 1pm, Point Reyes Lighthouse
parking lot (Notes: officially the control doesn't open until 9:30 and
very few riders are out there before 10:30. However, the Park closes
the road out to the lighthouse during Whale Watching season, and the
park, as part of our permit, has asked that the control workers be out
there by 9am. Personally, while one person can do this control, I
think it is a lot easier with two in that it would be a long time out
there and company makes the time go more quickly.)
Finish control, Rider check in, 1pm to 8:30pm (control officially
opens at 12:53, few if any riders arrive before 2pm. This works best
in shifts, so I'd break this up at least two shifts. Got someone you'd
like to work with? Like watching the parade of humanity pass by the
Bridge? Not a bad place to spend the afternoon.)
Saturday, Feb. 21, 300km brevet
Ride Start, check in, GGB 5:30 am to 7am (see above)
Secret Control (TBD)
Ride Finish, GGB 3pm to 2am (multiple shifts, riders usually finished
long before 2am, but note that possiblity exists)
SFR pays for your expenses incurred while volunteering. It is possible
to have a workers Brevet on a date other than the 24th for
the 200km so if you really want to ride but want to volunteer as well,
get in touch and we'll talk. If you would like to volunteer, please
send mail to:
