Threats of rain couldn't keep the masses away! We had a big group of 12 playing, and there were at least that many more casual players not with our group.
We finally had some tag changes and shake ups, with numbers 1 through 9 now out. We had some new members join the ranks as well.

On our card; Dave came back from vacation strong and was playing some solid golf. He had a few falters, but was playing some of the better golf I've seen out of him. Matt had a rough start, even slipping twice on hole 3, but he managed to keep his composure and keep the damage to a minimum. I was making foolish decisions off the tee, and wasn't able to recover from the results. I spent the better part of the day scrambling for bogies and missing putts. Russ was playing lights out solid golf. Two bogies and a birdie on the front 9, two bogies and two birdies on the back. Very solid.

3B, 10B, 11B, 14B : Par 57 layout
Totals:
Russell Johnston   2   57   1
Eric Boger           *   59   2
Matt Shwartz        3  64   3
Corey Duesller     *  66   4
Brad Lescalleet    1   67   5
Dave Briscoe       *   67   6
Jason                   *   70   *
Codey Huff         *   74   7
Matt                    *   82   *
Nick Krawzcak   4   84   8
John                   *   92   *
Thom Moore      *   95   9

We'd like everyone that has a tag to create an account at discgolfscene.com   It's free, and super easy to do. It will allow us to track our tag stats easier and keeps an up to date leaderboard. It will make the integration of said stats and leaderboard easy with the new incarnation of the website.
That being said, if there's anything you'd like to see on the updated site, let me know.

Don't be shy about Harvest sponsorship. You can sponsor, your boss can sponsor! I attached the letter, take it to your HR department. What's the worst they can say, No?

I'll be at the Falls on Saturday July 4th at 8:30A. Feel free to join me, the more the merrier.
Otherwise, tags on Sunday! See you on the course!
-Brad

What a beautiful weekend for some golf. Apologies to Matt and The Real
glen Miller; Russ and I teed off at 12:30, assuming that Father's Day
and the threat of rain would keep everyone else away. Matt I need to get
your cell number.
Russ and I hacked our way through, trading strokes for a while. I had 2
birdies, but failed to capitalize on a couple good chances. Russ was
struggling off the tee as well on a few holes. Our guest Paul, however,
was hitting everything. Only 3 times I remember that his drive wasn't in
the fairway. Solid shooting.

Current layout is par 57 (3B, 10B, 11B, 14B)
Paul * 58 *
Brad 2 63 1
Russ 1 64 2

Again, apologies to Matt for not giving him a crack at the 1 and 2 tags.
next week you get your chance.

We've gotten some sponsorships for the Harvest, but more wouldn't hurt.
If you know of a local business, or you want to donate yourself, let me
know. No amount is too small, or too large!

I was out at the course at 1pm today and was waiting and eventually one other
person showed up near 1:30. Glen Miller and myself went and played a round. I
was just wondering if anyone else was out today.

This is correct. This is an effort to promote larger divisions, deeper payouts and a truer competitive field. I, personally, think that having 3-4 person divisions is ridiculous, and trying to cater to everyone wanting to win is impossible. Advanced seems to me, to be a division in flux. Many Advanced players are guys that can be competitive in the Open division with a little more focused practice, and many others are players that need to hone their game in the lowers divisions a little more before stepping up.

This is an experiment for us, and may or may not work. Being an Advanced player myself it was a bit of a hard decision, but I think it's for the best interest of the sport to promote true competition and not the t-ball, everyone is a winner mentality that I feel is the stance of the pDGA. Again, we are experimenting, and if it flops we may very well return to the status quo of before. However, I suspect it will work.

I have little disc golf news except this, online registration is now up for the Harvest. All online pre-registrants are eligible for a prize. Sign up now.
Also, congrats to Matt Shwartz for winning in the Recreational division at the Gifford Pinchot Classic, at Boulder Woods/Quaker's Challenge.

The jury is still out as to whether or not I will be playing this Sunday. I will definitely be back on June 28th though, with tags in hand.

As to non-disc news, I had the most amazing weekend. As I'm sure most of you knew, my wife Cari and I  have been waiting for the birth of our daughter. Well, Laken Ann joined us on Friday, June 12th at 8pm. 7lbs 12.3 oz, 22inches long. The delivery went smooth, and the recovery/transition to being home is going smooth so far as well. All the lady golfers out there better watch out.

It's a little big, but she'll grow in to it.
This one is a little blurry, but look at her fingers! She's already trying to grab the disc, less than a day old!
I think Barrett and I are gonna start a junior doubles team with plans for World-Disc-Domination!

See you on the course!
-Brad

Well, the first official tag round of the 2009/10 season is in the books, and let me tell you, it was a tight race. We were joined by two non-regulars, John, who previously had only played the Falls with a lid, and Eric Boger, who has vowed to return and take the Number 1. Lucky for us he didn't have $15 yesterday. Russ and I were battling it out thinking it was a two-horse race, unbeknownst to us Matt was steady creeping up trying to make a move.

Russ and I were tied after 9, with Boger leading us by 4. We traded strokes for a few holes, until hole 14. Russ threw a fair drive that put him off to the left in the trees, while I hit F(irst)A(vailable)T(ree). My second shot put me almost even with Russ' drive, and my third put me pin high, off to the right in the thorns. A botched upshot and an unfocused missed putt carded me a lovely 6. Russ put his second shot 20 past the basket and drained the birdie putt to give him a 3 stroke lead with 4 holes left. On 15 I again hit FAT, and had to throw an awkward flick upshot through two trees to give myself a putt for 3, while Russ laid up and took the drop in. Three holes left, still up by 3. While waiting to tee off on 16 Russ said "I'm just gonna throw a Buzz out there." To which I said "You expletive expletive. Make it interesting, go for it." Something about challenging a guys manhood really brings out the best in them. He proceeded to throw a flick Destroyer in to the woods, even with the gas pipe. Flick roller out, upshot and a putt for 4. I took a drop in 3; now I'm down by two with 2 holes left. Russ puts his drive way left, but safe. Mine is way short, but safe as well. Russ is up first, knowing that I have a straight shot at the pin, he has to put his close. Instead he hangs a flick Buzzz up a little too high and it hyzers out n to the swamp. We're hoping to find it in December... A little rattled, he misses the uphill putt to card a circle 5 to my 3. All square with one hole left. Now it's interesting. Now, on Thursday Russ and I were throwing drives at 18, and he parked it with a flick Destroyer and a turnover Leopard. I parked it twice with a Roc and a spike hyzer. I had the Roc in my hand, and I change my mind at the last minute because it was getting a little windy. I threw the spike hyzer, and I swear it looks like a dead duck flopping around out there, fluttering to the ground about 85 feet right of the pin. Russ puts the Destroyer out to the left, but it just didn't have enough hyzer in it to get to the pin, he's about 45 out. We both take 3's, and we walk to hole 1 for the playoff. Russ drives first, and puts his drive in the bushes on the left, right at the crest of the hill. I promptly follow suit, which is not so great for me. All I have open is a flick approach, and hope that it rolls. It doesn't, I have a 50 footer for 3. I come up short. Russ throws his approach, and it rolls off a guardian tree, leaving him 12ft. And Russ is the current Number 1. Fun round.

We moved most of the pins on Thursday and a few yesterday. Current layout:
1A 2A 3B 4A 5A 6A 7A 8A 9A 10B 11B 12A 13A 14B 15A 16A 17A 18A
par 57

Totals:
Eric Boger       54
Russ                 61   1
Brad                61   2
Matt Shwartz   63   3
Nick K            84   4
John                88

None of the current tag holders will be at the Falls next Sunday. Matt and Nick are heading to Boulder Woods for the Gifford Pinchot Classic, PDGA C-Tier. Good luck fellas! Russ is on vacation. And I will either be at the hospital or at home with our newborn girl, scheduled for Thursday. Wish me luck!

We're still seeking sponsorships for the Harvest. If you have a lead, please please follow it up, or let me know so I can. We're almost half way to where I'd like to be. I attached the letter again; don't be shy.

I think she must have been watching Russ, traipse through the woods.... I made the putt for 2; even though it's hole 5...

See you on the course!
-Brad

We had another good group come out to enjoy the beautiful Sunday
afternoon. Thanks to Russ for spending some quality time in the bushes,
trimming up 3 and 10.

Totals:
Brad 63 $6
Russ 73 $0
Shooby 76
Dave 82
Matt 83
Shawn 84
Nick 98
Thom 113

As you can see from the attached picture, tags are in. This Sunday, come
and get the lowest one you can!

This Thursday there is a group bringing a large group of junior high
kids out to the Falls to experience disc golf for the first time. We
could use some extra assistance from those that have played before; that
would be all of you. I plan to get there a little early so I can move
some baskets in to A pins, no need to permanently traumatize them. Kids
are planned to be there from 6-8pm. If you can make it out, that'd be
great.
See you on the course!

I hope everyone had a good Memorial Weekend, I know I did.
On Sunday I attempted to tame some of the longer sections of grass,
namely holes 6 and 13. They look much better now, but if anyone has a
weed whacker a spare hour or so, holes 3 and 10 could use a haircut too.
Knock yourself out!

Post-weed destruction I was joined by Jacky Frost from Frederick and
Thom Moore. Thom used to play back in '81 at Stephen's City, but
yesterday was his first visit to the Falls, and first time throwing golf
discs. Welcome, Thom, hope to see you out again! Jack and I were knotted
at 38 after 9. Unfortunately, Jacky ran in to some trouble off the
fairways, and I picked up 2 birdies, 15 and 18 to secure the win.
Totals:
Brad 68
Jack 73
Thom 120

Monday saw a large crowd gathering as the dew was burning off the grass.
Shooby brought a whole troop with him, two of whom, Codey Huff and Corey
Duesler bought in to tags. We added a third to the tag ranks with Matt
Shwartz. Welcome to all three of you guys, hope to see you out there
this summer.
Not too much good from the round. Shooby lost a disc on his first throw
of the round, on 5. Matt lost a disc on 6 in the left scrub. Russ played
like poo. Seriously.
Totals:
Brad 69 $6
Russ 80 $0
Shooby 81
Matt 83
Codey 83
Jason 89
Corey 92
Nick 92

Tags were ordered today. I am told they should ship no later than
Friday. This means we most likely won't have them for this Sunday, but
we will for next. I will let you know for sure. As I said, those that
show up for the first tag round will be awarded the lowest numbers.
After that they will be given out in order of who paid.

I attached the sponsorship seeking letter for this years Harvest. Print
it out, email it or fax it to potential sponsors. Don't be shy. The more
we can raise, the better the tourney.

See you on the course!
-Brad

A word out to the masses to help get another course put in central Pa. Brad
Koppenheffer, (Buttercup to some:*), of Lumberjack fame, has a proposal to put a
9-hole course on a private piece of land=D>. This your chance to get out and
speak up about how a course could be designed. I got a chance to visit the park
this afternoon and had an idea of what Brad has planned. He drew up the plans at
the Lounge for the course last night after working the chainsaw on 16 for a
couple hours.
There is a walk thru happening this Saturday with the park owners, not sure of
the time yet, but I personally will probably be skipping SMT this Saturday to
help. Those that want to go from the west shore meet at the Creek and car pool?
East Shore meet at the Wal-Mart on 322. The park, Crest View Manor park, is just
off 322 in Hummelstown. The easy way for me to describe how to get there:
From Hershey and east: Rt. 322 to the 5-way intersection @ Chambers Hill
Road/Grayson Road. Make the soft right onto Grayson Road. Make a right turn at
the stop sign about 300 feet pass the light onto Millroy Road which becomes Nyes
road after the railroad bridge. Make the first right beyond the bridge, Old
Derry St., and follow approximately a 1/4 mile to where there is a sign to
follow main road to right (& go back under the railroad bridge - DO NOT GO BACK
UNDER THE RAILROAD) and side road to the left -MAKE THAT LEFT onto Oakshire Dr.
Park is 500 ft. on the left.
From Harrisburg and west: Rt. 322 to Mushroom Hill Rd., turn left and go to next
light. Turn right onto Grayson Road. Follow Grayson out to last stop sign before
Rt. 322, Turn left onto Millroy Rd., which become Nyes Rd. Make the first right
beyond the bridge, Old Derry St., and follow approximately a 1/4 mile to where
there is a sign to follow main road to right (& go back under the railroad
bridge - DO NOT GO BACK UNDER THE RAILROAD) and side road to the left -MAKE THAT
LEFT onto Oakshire Dr. If you go right and underneath the railroad bridge YOU
MISSED THE TURN. Park is 500 ft. on the left.

Come on out, show your support, & help grow our sport. Peace and good tossin',
Crawdaddy

A beautiful Sunday saw a slim crowd. The slightest threat of rain must
have kept everyone away... We all struggled a bit, spent a little time
in the woods, and I almost went swimming. The Creek looked a little too
much like chocolate milk for me though.
Wayne parred 9B. That's about the gist of the highlights...

Since this is Memorial Day Weekend, I'm imagining many of you have off
on Monday. How about a morning round? Time is negotiable, let me know
what works for you.

I'm going to order tags after this weekend. I'm getting only what I have
paid for. If you want one right away, bring me $15 this weekend.

See you on the course.

I sure hope someone else had as much fun as Russ and I did this past weekend. We pulled in to Codorus on Friday, amidst a dreary drizzle of rain. Since the forecast was calling for showers off and on all weekend, we figured we might as well get used to it, and we played both layouts; surprisingly well actually considering the rain. We had grandiose plans of going to find dinner somewhere, but once we pulled in to Jay.'s place it was over. Too much Frisbee action, too many friendly faces, too many libations flowing, and too tired to go anywhere. This was the first of 2 very similar evenings, filled with laughter, story telling, catching up with old friends and Frisbee tossing well into the spotlight lit night. That's right, Jay. has lights so you can play all night.
We had two rounds on Saturday, and the weather couldn't have been better. No rain, not too much humidity, and slightly overcast all day. When we met for lunch, Russ called his wife, and the report he gave her was "Hey, how're you doing? that's good. I beat Brad. Talk to you later." After round one, Russ was up by 4. After round two, I was up by 1. And of course I reminded him of this all night at the local watering hole, and well into the wee hours of the morning.
Round three found Russ and I playing on the same card, along with Eric Boger, and BW Llamma George Ginter. Great group to be in; we had a blast, despite the constant drizzle. It seemed pretty apparent that not too many people had practiced or prepared for the rain as there were quite a few scores coming in worse than the first. Our card was pretty tight throughout the round, with a few mishaps here and there, but everyone seemed to hold it together pretty well. After it was all said and done, I ended up beating Russ by 4. He was pretty quiet on the ride home...
I've said it before and I'll say it again: If you have the chance to go to Codorus, do it. Especially if it's a tourney, and especially if you can find a reason to crash at Jay.'s place. Uncle Jay. is the most generous host you'll find.
Full results can be seen here for those interested.

I'm still collecting money for tags! I'd love to be playing for them already, but we need a few more people to sign up before we can order them.
I'm looking in to getting some Under Armour type t-shirts printed. If you're interested, please let me know. Cost will be around $15/ea.

It's getting closer to the Harvest everyday. We're going to start having some workdays, so be on the lookout for dates.
Russ will be handling the scheduling since he did such a great job last year.

I forgot that this Sunday is Mother's Day. I won't be out. I'll see you out there on the 17th!

We were joined by two returning guests and a first time player on Sunday. Great weather, and a lot of great golf went down.
After 9 holes, our card of five was separated by five strokes at the most. It continued to be a tight race up to hole 16, where we locked up in a 4way tie. What better holes to be tied on than 17? All the risk and reward of going for the other side, or playing conservative and laying up to take a 4, which would prove to be a better strategy? Justin laid up and took an easy 4. James laid up and took his 4 as well. Eric went for the other side and ended up in the marsh, circle 5. I put my drive over the OB, thumber upshot to pin high, 40 ft in the woods on the right, and canned the putt for 3. I had a 1 stroke lead going in to 18, and only needed to match James and Justin for the win. We all three took pars while Eric sunk a nice 50 footer for birdie to tie him back up for second.

Finals:
Brad                 67
James Reaves   68
Eric Boger       68
Justin               68
Ty Walter        72
Swenger          73
Glen Miller      75
Dave Briscoe   76
Donnie Shenk 115

James apparently didn't get enough of a beating on the disc golf course, so he invited me to play a round of golf on Monday at Fountain Head Country Club. I can't remember the entire rundown, or how it all played out. Suffice it to say this: I beat James by 8 strokes. And I was out-driving him with my 3 Iron. That is all.

Russ and I will be at Codorus this weekend for the PA States Disc Golf Championships. Wish us luck.

Enjoy the Falls without me!
Don't forget to get me your money for tags! The sooner we have the money, the sooner we have the tags.
See you on the 10th.
-Brad
