Additionally on November 8th I will be traveling to Seneca for a Birthday round extravaganza.  (Ok so it is me and 2 maybe 3 others right now...I just like saying extravaganza).  Please let me know if you are interested in the once in a...well.... year event.  I will be leaving early AM to get down and play 2 rounds of a format yet to be decided.  Probably play holes 1-18 first round and then 9-27 the second round.  Depending on who comes we can do doubles or whatever.  Let me know if you are interested.  Right now it is Myself, Dave Briscoe, Andy Johnson, and maybe Brad "I feel pretty" Lescalleet.

So, I've obviously been slacking on the write ups... This serves as a two week edition.

First up, two weeks ago, we played at Wild Bill's Stony Batter Invitational. Wild Bill has mapped out an 18 hole course through his 8+/- acres that requires you to use every shot in your bag. There's some short accurate tee shots, and some bombers to be thrown as well. Big thanks to Bill for inviting us back to his home and letting us enjoy his property with him. Big thanks to Vicky (Mrs. Wild Bill) as well for providing nourishments for after the round. I look forward to playing at Bill's again in the future, and you should make every effort to be there next time.
Reported Scores:
Dick Gogin      56
Brad Lescalleet 57
Mark Eckerty   65
Tyson Walter    67
Tom Gogin hit an Ace on hole 13!

This past weekend Ian "Running Man" Taber and I traveled south to Lorton, Va to play in the Giles Run Amateur Wind Up. It was the first event at this course,a nd our first time seeing it. We were among the only players that were not locals to the course, and it showed. We both definitely would have benefited from a practice round, as Giles is covered in thorns, that are all marked OB. More OB than Renny. Believe it. Every hole has a large amount of OB, many within the 10M putting circle. Needless to say, neither of us faired too well, but we had a good time. First round, I think I had 10 clean holes without OB. My putting was keeping me from complete obliteration, but I couldn't hang with the guys that have been playing here. Less than a foot off the fairway and I'm taking an OB stroke... Second round went a little better for me. i managed an even 54, with 5 birdies. The heat in the second round was killer. Over 98 degrees, and no shade to be found. There wasn't enough water to keep me hydrated. Honestly that's the worst I've ever felt during a tourney. There seemed to be nothing I could do to make myself feel better and cool down even a little bit.
Regardless of my poor play, I had a great time, and I will definitely be going back to Giles; in the winter. They have put a tremendous amount of work in to the design and construction, and Fairfax County has hooked them up big time.
All that really matters is that I kept the 1 tag, right Ian?

Next week, back to the Falls for tags. We're going to wrapping up the tag season in the next few weeks/months. We're going to have a members only finale event and cook out, date to be announced. And then sometime around the Ice Bowl will be our first tag event.

Upcoming events:
October 11: Codorus Autumn Open, PDGA C Tier
October 18: Shawnee Tournament (Bedford, PA) Triples, bring your own team. I am currently accepting applications for partners.
November 1: Codorus North v. South; all one division, divided by Mason Dixon Line. Fun event.
If you want any more info, or have any questions, let me know.
See you on the course!
-Brad

Anybody up for a roadtrip?
This course has been compared to a longer, rougher Rockburn. I believe
this is the first sanctioned event here. The course is built on old
prison ground that has been turned in to a multi-use park.

If only one other person is going, I can drive. If more than that, we'll
have to take more than one vehicle, or someone with more room will need
to drive. I am planning on leaving by 5:30AM.
Let me know ASAP if you're in.

There was some tag shake up on Sunday, as Gerg Walter stole the #2 tag from Swenger and Tyson by one stroke. He promptly boarded a private plane and headed for Georgia following his victory, saying "If you want the deuce, you gotta come get it suckas!"

We had a healthy crew on Tuesday night, all vying for the coveted Numero Uno.
Highlights:
Russ 4's 1B
Tyson deuces 4A
Russ 3's 10A
Ty 3's 14B
Russ 3's 16A
Brad 3's 17B
Brad deuces 18A
Swenger misses par on only 4 holes on the front
Ian strings 4 pars together

Lowlights:
Brad 6's 1B
Russ and Ian 6 3B
Ty and Brad 5 6B
All 6's and 7 on 8B
Nobody deuces 11A,12B or 13A
Three go OB on 17B

After the dust settled, yours truly came back from a 4 stroke deficient to win by 3; helped along by Swenger's self-imposed collapse and Russ' attempt to follow me across the swamp. Thanks guys!
Final
Brad            5    67    1
Russ            1    70    5
Swenger    13    72    12
Tyson        12    75    13
Ian             17    76    17

Next Sunday, Wild Bill's!    1:30PM      BYOB      Food and Frisbees!
Be there, bring your family and bring your basket if you have one!
Wild Bill's:
1310 Pioneer Drive
St. Thomas, PA
From Rt 30 in St.Thomas, just west of the firehall (square),turn on to Pioneer Drive. Go 1.2 miles and see 1310 on mail box. Watch for the disc hanging from a tree.

The Bedford County Youth Advocate Programs and REI, Inc. are co-
sponsoring the first annual FROLF Tournament at Shawnee State Park on
Saturday October 18, 2008. Proceeds from this event will benefit the
Bedford County Youth Advocate Program, a newly established
organization dedicated to strengthening community based services for
youth and providing healthy, drug-free lifestyles for their families.
YAP Inc. is a 33 year-old non-profit agency, headquartered in
Harrisburg, PA with 250 programs nationwide. The goal of YAP is to
avoid out of home placement for children and youth by using mentoring
and behavioral health community based services to focus on the
strengths of each individual youth, instead of focusing on their
problems.

FROLF FEVER is spreading! Frisbee golf is a fast growing sport,
custom made for family fun. Shawnee State Park has recently completed
its beautiful new 9 hole Frisbee Golf course, beginning at the main
parking lot near the boat rental area. YAP is seeking $100 sponsors
for each hole, and enough gift certificates for each participant to
take home a prize. Families, work groups, and individuals are
encouraged to form 3 person teams at $30 per team. The entry price
will include professional disc golf Frisbees for each player, and
food and entertainment. Teams that register early will receive FROLF
t-shirts. Similar to traditional golfing events, special prizes will
be provided for the lowest and highest score and holes in one.
(Mulligans can also be purchased for those of you who feel the need).
This good -natured non-competitive event will begin at noon and will
conclude at 4:00 p.m. with a family oriented picnic and live
entertainment at Pavilion #2.

Thank you for taking the time to consider sponsoring this event.
Enclosed is information about our program, a sponsorship form for the
tournament, and contact information. Please join us for this kick of
event for the new Youth Advocate Program in Bedford County, who is
delighted to be co-sponsoring this event with another newcomer, REI
Inc.

It's time to get FROLFING!!!

Sincerely,

Dennis Williamson, Program Coordinator, YAP Inc.

So, the Harvest went off without a major hitch! We could not have done it without you, the club members, making it happen. Everybody really pitched in and made it happen. I want to thank everybody that helped out, even though they weren't playing. Dad, Tyson, Ott, Tim, Mark and Sam all lent a hand. Wayne, Dick, Shawn, James and Russ all helped out while they were playing, and between rounds. Thanks again to Cari and Mom for doing registration and scores, Tim, Ott and Ty for doing payouts. Russ for doing anything I didn't do, and Dad for doing everything I asked him to do. Thanks to anyone that has spent any time at all at Whispering Falls with more than just a disc in your hand.
You guys make me proud to be a member of this club!

This coming Labor Day Sunday, I will be at Codorus, doing the family thing.
Don't forget, the following Sunday, Sept 7th, is at Wild Bill's! 1P, BYOB. We play, then we close the pool up, then we eat! Bring the family it'll be a good time. Email me for directions.

see you on the course!
-Brad

As posted on md-discgolf.com

We want to thank everyone that made it to our first PDGA event! Hope everyone had a good time, and the Falls didn't beat you up too bad. No Spin with a smoking 51 second round took it down. Nice shooting Jim!
Yours truly took down the ace pot/ctp throw off, which totaled $149. Spang thought he should have won by default though, since I threw a driver. :D

CTB winners:
•Joey Abrams •Matt Hamilton •Jeff Manatt •Ian Taber •Jason Hummel • Brad Lescalleet

We couldn't have done this without all of our sponsors!
•Innova Champion Discs •Prime Discs •Comcast •C.V. Wenger, Inc. •Fort. Loudon Inn
•Grayson Designs •Snavely's Garden Corner •Del Martin, Inc. •Carpet Gallery of Hagerstown
•James Craft and Sons •Wormburner •Boulder Woods Country Club •Creekside Crawdads
Make sure to let them know you appreciate their support of disc golf!

I'd like to thank my wonderful wife, Cari, and my equally wonderful mom, Leslie, for handling registrations and payouts. My brother, Tim, and Mark for checking scores and helping with payout. My uncle Cliff for cooking some mean dogs and burgers. Dawn Gogin is responsible for the spectacular slaw and fruit salad. Mom made the pasta salad again. Thanks to my dad, Greg for being a great support and idea man. He made our signs for the CTB's, and countless other tasks, too numerous to mention. Thanks Dad, for taking care of anything I couldn't get to, and for spotting, delivering water, and taking pictures. (They'll be up soon.) Thanks to Sam Burke for spotting on hole 10 both rounds. Thanks to the family at the bottom pavilion for not tearing down our tape and parking in the middle of the fairways.

Extra big thanks go out to Russell and Lindsey Johnston. Russell really stepped it up and took care of a lot of administrative duties so I wouldn't have to do it all. He organized all the club workdays to prep the course, made the scorecards, planned hole assignments and was my wingman through all stages of the Harvest. Couldn't have done it without you, Russ! And you couldn't have done it without Lindsey letting you, so thanks to you both. :D

I hope everyone's expectations were met, and all had a good time. Hopefully we'll see you at the next one!

I'm planning on being there OD, but I don't know about the rest of
these sissies. I don't think they're up to the Challenge...

Cadillac!
I doubt we will fill, but if you preregister you'll be entered in a
drawing to win a gift certificate from primediscs.com
I think that's reason enough to send us your hard earned money!

Thanks to everyone that was able to make it. Wayne and I enjoyed a full 18. I'll
spare Wayne the scores but had we decided to play for tags, #1 tag was very
safe. Highlights included 2 close birdie trys on 5b, walking across the new
Falls trail footbridge, Wayne parking it on 15 from the B-pad, and a very nice
father who was fishing with his kids taking time to fish out a stray drive from
someone that is not named Russ. Thanks for the round Wayne. See you guys on
Saturday.

We had a good crew turn out for the first of two all day work days, in
preparation for the Harvest. Many thanks to Greg L., Tim, Russ, Dick,
Wayne, Shawn, Mark and Ty for the sweat you put forth. A HUGE thanks to
Dawn Gogin for bringing us lunch. I'm still thinking about that slaw,
and I don't even like coleslaw!

We now have an alternate position on every hole. New anchors were set
for 2C, 4B, 7C, 12B, 14B, 16B. The anchor for 5A, which was damaged by a
mower was replaced, and moved back 15ft. Teepads were tamped to best of
the tampers ability. We cleared up the pit of despair on hole5, so I
don't want to hear anymore crying about the thick stuff. Thanks to Russ'
planning and purchasing, we also have a foot bridge crossing from 12 to
the WFT. We have some for real steps on 6, going down to the A pin,
brought by the Stairmaster himself, Wayne. (By the way, if you have
Comcast, check out the latest Disc Golf Monthly to see Wayne in action.)
Sweet things going down at the Falls!

I believe Russ and Wayne played an abbreviated round, but the rest of us
drug our tired arms home.

*Next Saturday, August 16th, we trim everything. Bring implements of
the trimming/cutting nature. We will possibly also be working on the
steps on holes 3 and 10.
8A until we drop. If you can lend a hand for even just an hour it would
be greatly appreciated.
*
See you on the course!

Looking forward:
*2nd Annual Stony Batter Invitational (and pool closing)
September 7th 1:30P*
Wild Bill is inviting us back to his private 9 hole course in St. Thomas!
He's providing food, you're providing drinks, BYOB.
I'm going to give away some plastic as well.
Bring the family, it will be a good time!

We'll play first, then help Bill cover his pool in preparation for
winter, than we eat!
There may also be an 8 Ball tourney going down as well for those interested.

Stony Batter is an amazingly fun and challenging course, and you
definitely want to be there.
RSVP to me so we can get a head count for grub!
If you have a portable basket, we'd love to use it for this. Let me
know. Danny, Russ and Barrett, I'm looking at you!

Two weeks until the Harvest.

We had a modest crew come out on Sunday to attack our chore list. Wayne and Dick gave hole 2 the haircut it needed so much, while Russ trimmed up 13A and cut a few low hanging limbs on 16. Shawn, Tim and I put 15B pad in it's place, and all 3 RGL benches are now chained down. Or up.

For the first time since the inaugural tag round, we had tags 1 through 5 all present. So we played a tag round. Or rather, some of the guys played a tag round, and some were just aimlessly wandering through the woods, randomly flinging plastic around...
No major catastrophes on the front, minus the four 6's and a 5 on hole 8. Everybody three'd holes 4 and 7. Wayne got the three on 9. Russ started off hot on the back, deucing hole 10, to two 4's and two 5's. Dick got the lone three on hole 11. Russ stayed hot, getting the solo three on 13, and deucing 14. Dick deuced 15, from the new B pad, I got a five. I got the lone three on 17B, which plays to 5B's basket.
Shawn was the dark horse in this race. Quietly playing solid, with no blow up holes. He had three 5's and a 6 on the front, nothing but threes and fours on the back. He and Wayne were trading strokes the entire back 9. Russ was playing way to solid to catch though. And he had some magic fairy dust on his discs, because He made some lines that were not there, but capitalized on the good shots and minimized the bad. Dick played very well on the front nine, but seemed to wear out quickly on the back. I think he's been working too hard on the course. That and he said he hadn't thrown a disc in a month. I had dirt in my eye. The entire round.
After the dust settled, we had some shuffling to do.
Finals
Russ      3   67   1
Shawn   5   69   2
Wayne   4   70   3
Dick      2   73   4
Brad      1   77   5

Russ laid out the work schedule and plans perfectly, so I'll just reiterate what he said.
This Sunday (August 10th), all day. We could really use some extra help. Next Saturday (August 16th), all day. Again, extra help is need.
The same few guys that have been there the past few weeks can't do it all. We're sure gonna try, but it'd be nice to see a few different faces for a change.
Pre-register for the Harvest here. Everyone that pre-registers gets put in to a raffle for a Prime Discs gift certificate. Tell your friends.
See you on the course. -b

We are getting close and the course is starting to shape up.

Just a reminder that this Sunday is a Work Day.

Here is a rundown of the anticipated work to be done.

1) Set the B-PINS (YEAH!!!!!!)
2) Bridge from 12 to Falls Trail
3) Step work
4) Retrim B-PIN areas, #3 bottom, #5 Tame the Schule, #10 bottom, #13 front-side

I will be at the course from 8am until I fall down.  So if if you can spare an hour or hours at any point during the day it would really help.  If you can commit to some time now let Brad or I know when you can be there.  If you would rather wait and see then give Brad or I a call that day and we can let you know where we are.  Like I said a commitment doesn't have to be for the whole day and I expect that people have other things they would rather get to then working in the woods but if you can spare any time it would really help.  I expect a relaxed pace any many breaks since no one enjoys boot camp....well except maybe Brad.

Weed Wackers, Trimmers, Shovels, and Rakes are all needed.  Also don't forget work gloves.

So far the following are commitments that I know of

B-RAD
Greg Lescalleet
Tim Lescalleet
Myself

If you cannot make it Sunday, there is another workday scheduled for Saturday the 16th.
