Two week update. Last Sunday Tim and I ventured to Stephen's City, VA
for the Sherando Ice Bowl. It was a relatively small and mostly local
showing, but we had a good time nonetheless. Having not played in a
while, Tim went in with a realistic goal of shooting low to mid 60's. He
missed a few short putts, which is to be expected with rust, and
finished at a 66 on the par 57 layout. Not a bad round at all. My goal
was to play consistent and within my own game, not putting my self in
any "must make this putt for bogey" situations. The magic number for me
was 57. I played fairly conservative, high percentage golf, and finished
with a three under par 54, in a three-way tie for second; one stroke off
first. I managed 4 birdies, and one bogey, on the last hole. I missed a
50ft birdie putt in the playoff hole. In retrospect, my conservative
play would have panned out better over two rounds, but in one round with
a group of everyday locals, you have to go for more birdies. We still
had a good time, and managed to get quite a few commitments for our own
Ice Bowl.
Yesterday Wild Bill, Nick and myself played an abbreviated round. We
enjoyed unseasonably warm weather and slushy ground conditions.
Wild Bill carded his first bogey on hole 1A! Way to go Bill, you'll be a
contender in no time.
For those of you that haven't been out recently, we now are the proud
owners of a new water hazard on 14. Immediately to the left of the
fairway, taking up most of the area from the first guardian trees back
to the tee. You have enough ground to lay up to the left, but not much.
Taking the big lefty hyzer line is now a little more intimidating, but
no more difficult.
The Ice Bowl is getting closer and closer everyday. I haven't heard much
chatter, I'm hoping it's more than Russ, Tim and I that show up.
We can still use some sponsorship/donations as well.
See you o the course!
