First, the course review. Heritage Farms Park is a nice place. About 35,000 soccer fields, baseball fields, a playground, and a brand new 18-hole disc golf course. We jumped out of the van at the first sight a of a basket, so we ended up started both rounds on hole 12. Oh, well. Holes 10- 16 leave a little to be desired. Open field shots, most of them reachable with a good yank/roller. Very remenicesnt of Middletown. I have been imformed that they will be planting trees in this area in the spring though, so they are improving the course, and I think they did well with the land. Hole 17 is very nice, playing to a basket teetering on the brink of destruction, with a 15' drop off 25' to the right. 18, 1-9 play through some trees and slight elevation change, requiring a good variety of shots off the tee. Overall, a very enjoyable course in it's infancy that is sure to only get better with age.
On to the matches!
The tag round was rather lackluster, no stellar performances from anyone. I think we were all trying to feel out the course and find our swing. We had a few birdies (Brad/Tim/James/Ty) and a few more bogies and worse
After it was all said and done, the only tags to change hands were 2/3. A closely contested battle between Tim and James ended with the elder gentleman on the short side of the stick.
Brad 1-55-1
James 2-62-3
Tim 3-61-2
Shubey 4-64-4
Tyson 6-65-6
Greg L 7-65-7
The skins match that followed was a little more lively. For those of you following along at home, each skin is worth $.50/person. We had six, so each hole was worth $3. High rollers we are.
Greg struck ealry with the lone par to earn himself 2 skins on the second hole. Two holes later, Shubey has a case of de ja vu, and earns himself a $3 CTP as well as 2 skins of his own. Yours truly takes a piece of the pie on hole 18, nabbing 3 skins with a 35' jump putt for birdie. Striking while the iron was hot, a second cosecutive jump putt for birdie earns this author another cool $3. James gets in on the act with a pair of birdies surrounding a par, earning himself a net total of 4 skins.
Then, in his usual fashion, James manages to get the CTP on hole 7, but somehow miss his 15' birdie putt, while "Cool as an Icepick" Shubey nabs the pair of skins right out from under him. And doesn't James have a basket in his yard?
Now, this is what we have all been waiting for. We have 4 skins up for grabs, 6 hungry golfers, and only one hole left. After determining that we will play a sudden death hole in case of a push; we all drive.
Tyson is off to the right, very close to where he made his birdie putt from last round. He has to be feeling hungry for his first skins.
Greg is short and left, well within his range of putting, and breaking even for the day.
Tim, also yearning for a piece of the cash, borrowed as it may be, shows his true colors as Captain Hyzer and ends up about 50ft left, pin high.
James, ever the undecisive lady, goes with a thumber
Myself, I go with old faithful, the lime green Wasp and end up about 15' long, behind a tree that may be large enough to cause problems in about 15 years.
Shubey, though I am much younger and less versed in the ways of Frisbee, follows my line. He soon realizes that he is twice as strong as I, and ends up about 45' long.
Tim, Greg, and Ty all make runs at their long putts, but end up short of glory and the cash. Shubey does his usual Shubey thing and throws something soft and delicate and right on line, but the wind gods were not with him. You need a heavier putter Shubey, and I know just the place to get one.
Next is James. You can probably tell me what happened, even if you weren't there. After changing his stance about 12 times, he throws up the ugliest putt I have ever seen. And of course, short. James has problems getting up, gotta check that bush.
With $12 on the line I nail that 15' like I practice them. Mainly because I do. So should you.
Final results:
Brad 52/$24
James 57/$15
Ty 59/$0 Beat your last round by 6 strokes with no money, how do you do that?
Shubey 61/$15
Tim 65/$0 Atleast it wasn't your $10
Greg L 66/$6 Almost broke even
Until next time, save your quarters and practice your putts!
