As Indoors is now coming to a close we think its about time to put
outdoors into full swing.

Wednesday afternoon events have ran smoothly enough but we think it
would be better if we could have a whole day playing ultimate so
brunel are proud to announce that we will be hosting an event on
SUNDAY 22/01/06. This will be a whole day of ladder league matches at
the usual place followed by drinks and hopefully some good 3 pint
challenge times.

So if ANY teams are interested then please get in contact with me as
soon as posible so we can gauge on how many teams we will have to
accomodate on the day.

The coca cola christmas advert is now on tv, so i can say happy xmas

Amazingly, it is currently at 17 shiny pounds!
Will it go for more? Only a day and a bit left. Keep an eye on it, and
get those last minute bids in... all proceeds going towards a special
'Rich White prize' at Surrey Slingfest, and Surrey permitting,
possibly something for LL too to benefit all Rich White fans...

Postage should be bugger-all as I am sure it can be passed through
Ultimate players hands safely into your hands somehow.

Also, special congratulations to Sublime, UCL, and Mohawks for their
performances at Division 2. Especially Sublime for coming 3rd, and
only just missing out on the final. Good luck to Strange Blue, Brunel,
and Aye-Aye at Nationals soon.

Last but not least, there is a new SE 3 pint challenge table on
www.seultimate.org, currently held by Mum & Dyson from Thrown at 15.5
seconds. If you have any times for your club from this season, please
e-mail them to me!

Cheers,

Hi Felix et al.

I've put the top two videos on my frisbee downloads webpage. http://www.met.rdg.ac.uk/~swr03cmb/dragons/index.html
They are just hyperlinks, but I'll make it look slightly prettier later.

Also I'll like to shamelessly advertise a Discuits internal hat tournament going on the weekend.... http://www.met.rdg.ac.uk/~swr03cmb/dragons/discuits_tin.html

Discuits are the Thames Valley open team - we have players from Newbury to Twickenham and Basingstoke to Oxford. We are holding a mini-hat tournament in Reading this Sunday. If you live in the Thames Valley and would like to play non-student Frisbee with us next year (including over the summer), please feel invited. The format is a piss-up on Saturday evening and then playing disc on Saturday morning. Get in touch with me for more details...

Chris,

Lars from Fire of London is coordinating a Mens Skills Day in London,
to be jointly run by Clapham and Fire - the 2005 Nationals and Tour
winners respectively. It's sure to be hugely beneficial to everyone
that attends, and will give you a chance to meet some of the best
players in the UK as well as develop some mad skills.

He wants as many of you developing South East Uni players to turn up
as possible, but isn't sure what date would be ideal. He doesn't want
to do it in Jan/Feb because of the weather. March is Outdoor
Regionals and then into the holidays, when students will struggle to
coordinate transport to the event or won't even be in the region.
---
4/5 March: Uni Outdoor Regionals
11/12 March: Charity Shield & Uni Outdoor Regionals (backup)
[term end: 17th March for most]
18/19 March: Non-uni Indoor Nationals

8/9 April: MIXED TOUR 1
15/16 April: (Rimini)
[term starts on 19th or 24th]
22/23 April: University Mixed Outdoor Nationals
29/30 April: University Outdoor Nationals

6/7 May: University Womens Nationals
13/14 May: (Wonderful Copenhagen)
20/21 May: MIXED TOUR 2
---
Lars has suggested 1st April as it's completely free, but this has the
problem of being outside of term time so unattendable for a lot of SE
Uni players. Another possibility is the 6th May, but that's the week
after Nationals so the top players from the 3 / 6 clubs might want a
break, or because it's week 3/4 you might have too much work to do.

The choice is yours! Everybody gets a vote on the poll at:
http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/seuniultimate/surveys?id=1406793

4th March: Wait until we know Regionals will clash with the Charity
Shield (it might not) and then do it in early March [this option might
not work out at all]

1st April: I want it before Nationals - holidays do not concern me

6th May: I want it during term time, and even if my team goes to
Nationals I'd go to this the week after

Hey all,

Big hand to everyone for making indoor regionals so fantastically
great. I've never been to a tournament before that had such a strong
feeling of comradery, on the pitch, in the crowd, at the party... it
was really something. Thanks to Bob for making it all happen against
the odds, and congratulations to everyone who made it to Nationals &
Div 2 - go make us proud. Div 2 is in two weeks in Birmingham, and
Nationals is on 10/11th December in Sheffield.

On another note, Ladder League video! There were a whole truckload
of games played in the last couple of weeks, which has really mixed
the table up. We're about a third of the way through the season
already, so anybody can still win it - so long as they attend the
events local to them and organise the occasional one of their own.
The video you all saw previewed at the party on Saturday is now online
for anyone to download - go to http://www.seultimate.org and check out
the latest news update. It's only 40mb for 6 minutes footage so
shouldn't take long on broadband. You'll need the latest version of
divx to play it, there's a link on the videos page for that too.
Props go to Mac for cutting this together, a superb job. Any feedback
go to jem 24 at sussex dot ac dot uk, with no space before the 2.

Enjoy!

Wow,

What a weekend, I'm still waiting for my voice to come back! Thanks to
all those who came, played, sweat, bled, shuttled minibuses, layed
out, partied, cheered, smiled and laughed.

2. Brunel
3. Aye-Aye

4. Sublime
5. Holloway Hammers
6. UnderCoverLovers

13. Reading (Spoon Winners)
14. Mohawks 2
15. Roehampton
16. Thrown 2

3/4 playoff MVP: Dave from Aye-Aye
Spirit of the game: Aye-Aye

Party Award: Mohawks
Fancy Dress: Brunel
3 Pint Challenge Winners: 18.3 seconds, Mum & Dyson - Kings
3 Pint Challenge losers: 87 seconds, Chris & Ben - Brunel
MPP (Most Pissed Person): 1st: Old guy at the table, 2nd: Chris - Brunel
Sharking award: Dave & Tess
Loudest Team: Reading

Congratulations to those who made it to Nationals and Div 2, go
represent the South East!

Ladder League highlights video (Brighton event) will be up on
www.seultimate.org shortly... Yeah Rich White.

Small snippet of a funny story I heard: Thrown 2 v Reading, someone
from Reading lays out in the endzone for the score, drops the disc.
Picks it up anyway, and starts playing in the other direction.
Everyone starts playing in the other direction, they score. Someone
(Ham?) thankfully pointed out they were going the wrong way AND it had
been a turnover...

Lost property left on the balconies at Sussex:

Green 'Nice Pear' T-shirt
Blue & Grey 'Brasil' jacket
Black 'I can show you the way' T-shirt
XL black Helly Hansen long-sleeve shirt with white stripes along the
top of the sleeve.
Red Puma tracksuit bottoms with a white stripe down the sides
Small grey 'Rebel Sports' joigging bottoms
Medium Old Navy long-sleeved white shirt
Large white burton shirt
Dark blue 'Quicksilver 69' shirt
White 'Lost in music' shirt
Nike black headband
Medium topman white shirt
Lion King CD
Red 'Southampton FC' towel
'forty winks' mask
Black Surrey Scorpions shirt #3
3 odd socks.

Anything else in particular that someone has lost, e-mail me and I
will go in and ask at the sports centres/hosts/ party venue
respectively.

Cheers again guys!

Hey all,

Quick email. Massive props to Brunel for their recent ladder league

taking part in some games. This is a great step for our region.
I've updated the table & results on the website, so check it out to
see how all the games recently have gone... http://www.seultimate.org
... also check out who is above you in the table and challenge them to
a game - it's the fastest way to the top.

What are the current top 16 Ladder League positions, I hear you ask?

1. Brunel
2. Mohawks
3. Surrey Scorpions
4. Stange Blue
5. Holloway Hammers
6. Disc Doctors
7. Under Cover Lovers

Hey all,

It appears the gauntlet has been laid down with regard to the Ladder
League, but for the meantime here's something unrelated.

You may or may not be aware of the happenings of late; the UK Ultimate
community decided to update the indoor rules, specifically the indoor
pull rules, so a bunch of people including myself went away with what
the community had said to work on producing a definitive, fair set of
rules which would aim to speed up the indoor game.

These new rules were sent to regional coordinators and tournament
directors last week, with a note saying they would be used at Uni
Indoor Nationals. The Midlands qualifiers ran the new rules, but the
Northern qualifiers didn't. Thus spawned much debate on the
uniultimate mailing list about whether the new rules were better,
necessary, being imposed unfairly, being announced too close to
Nationals... all kinds of stuff.

As it stands, we'll be using the new rules at our regionals this
weekend, so I suggest you read through the email from the Indoors DoC
(director of competitions) below - the most important part being after
the ***'s, as those are the actual rules, and the notes at the very
bottom are very helpful too.

If you've any questions, strong opinions, qualms etc, feel free to air
them here on seuniultimate or email me directly - the more
communication the better.

Well, good lord, I expected a bit of controversy, but this is getting a
little out of hand.

To clear some things up: I gave the new rules to the uni committee 9 days
before regionals in Scotland. Sorry, but these things take time. What I
didn't realise until very late was that some english regionals were the week
before scotland. Mea culpa, I'm not on the uni committee and I didn't check
that too closely. Would have been much better to get them out the week
before.

Secondly, the rules haven't actually been posted on UU yet, which is leading
to some enormous confusion. Someone posted the old rules, and COMMENTS on
the new rules, without the new rules themselves. A recipe for disaster,
naturally, and disaster is what's happened.

The rules address some points that needed addressing. First, the OLD
(outdoor) rules offer 75 seconds between points. This is clearly not
acceptable, as has been pointed out, so we've written new rules. If anyone
thinks that wasn't worthwhile they're wrong. Of course, you can argue about
the form of the new rules, but don't try and say they didn't need updating.

Secondly, we've added a delay of game rule that was dreamt up by Rich Hims,
and is similar to one used in the states. This is unlikely ever to come into
play, in my opinion, but I have to spoken to folk who've lost close games
while the opposition just stood over the disc, so it's nice to have it in
black and white. Again, you can argue about the form of the rule, but it
seems to me that indoors, where there is ALWAYS time pressure, it's worth
having some sort of regulation.

And thirdly, the pull rule. Yep, that old chestnut.
Some history: When I started being Indoor coordinator, one of the things
that I mentioned was that the pull rule needed updating, in my opinion. I
got particularly fed up at uni mixed indoors last year, where a couple of
teams cheerfully threw pulls 10 yards over our heads and walked down to set
up the D. The old rules had 2 flaws, in my opinion - i) they were slow, and
ii) they offered no reward for skillful pulls. I received a boatload
(approximately 4 shedloads, or 350 bucketfuls, if you're on the imperial
system) of emails (about 40% from students, incidentally) agreeing, though
all disagreeing about what form it should take. So we had a wee vote on BD
on some options. The winning option was not actually my preferred option,
but heigh ho. I did put something on UU as well, though as has been pointed
out, most people were not aware. One thing that overwhelmingly came out of
this was that pulls should be droppable. This is quite simply to speed up
the game; it's almost never worth allowing the pull to fall to the ground if
you can drop it, and this can save a couple of minutes over the course of a
game. I for one have been known to walk very slowly to a pull, or let it
slide under a curtain, safe in the knowledge that my team are one point
ahead. And I'm not the only one, by any stretch of the imagination.

So we set about writing bombproof rules, which is not as easy as it might
seem until you've done it. If anyone thinks we haven't considered all the
options, then I'll forward them the extensive emails between myself and the
other folk on the rules committee where we try to pick fault with each
other's rule ideas.

I think the rules are pretty concise and fair. I'll stick them at the end of
this email.

But note that I don't have any power to decide whether these rules are used
for student tourneys. And nor, as things stand, does UU in general. I don't
intend my publication of these rules to influence one way or the other the
decisions of the uni committee or the opinions of uni players, except
insofar as they clear up some of the many misunderstandings.

One more thing - these rules have been tested where possible during their
creation, by felix particularly and also at the one-day tournament in
glasgow the other week. They're not just the product of my imagination, you
know...

<http://www.wfdf.org/index.php?page=rules/wfdf_ultimate_rules.htm>

402.01 Dimensions: The field of play should be as close as possible to 40m x
20m, including 7m endzones. A 'brick' mark shall be placed in the centre of
the pitch at a distance of 1/3 of the length of the playing field proper
from each endzone. For a full size pitch, the brick mark is therefore at
26m/3, or approximately 8.5 metres from each endzone. (For reference, the
outdoor ratio is 20m/64m, or approximately 1/3). For smaller pitches, adjust
all measurements accordingly.

402.02 [Surface: Remove the phrase 'although well trimmed grass is
suggested']

402.06 Restraining line: All pitches should have a minimum of 1m clearance
from any wall or obstacle which may interefere with play or player safety on
all sides. Where space allows, a restraining line should be marked 2m from
the playing area to ensure that sidelines remain clear during play. Where
the clearance is less than 2m, no persons should sit or stand on that
sideline except the substitutes of the competing teams.

402.07 Line Markings: All lines shall be marked in full - if using the lines
of, for example, badminton courts which are already marked in the hall,
clearly visible tape that will not damage the playing surface must be
applied to fill any gaps in these lines. Lines shall be between 3cm and 6cm
wide.

403.04 Footwear: All players must wear clean, non-marking, indoor shoes. The
TD may remove anyone from the pitch, at any time, if their footwear is
marking or damaging the surface.

404.02 Length of game: shall be at the discretion of the TD, in accordance
with guidelines from the UKUA Indoor DoC.

****************************NB see 404.05 D 10 before reading the time-out
section.**********************************

404.03 Time-outs:
A. Non-injury: Each team is permitted one time-out
(possibly more than one, at the discretion of the TD, in longer games such
as finals.) This is to allow tactical discussion which may not otherwise
be possible in the short time between points.
1.Time to call: The time-out may be called, by either team, only after a
point is
scored and before the ensuing throwoff. Time-outs may not be
called in the final 3 minutes of a game.
2. Duration: Time-outs shall not exceed 30 seconds in length.

4. Resumption of play: Play will continue normally with the start of the
next point.
5. When a timekeeper is available: The time-out increases the time between
the readiness of one team and the start of play by 30 seconds. The
timekeeper should give warning 10 seconds before play must be restarted.

404.05 Starting and Restarting Play
        C. [Cancelled There will be no half-time in indoor matches.]

        D. Throw-off: Play starts at the beginning of the game and after
each goal with a throw-off.

Glossary: A 'Valid Throw-off' or 'Valid Pull' is a throw-off made
when the throwing team occupies an onside position, which passes, in clean
flight, through a 2m high box bounded by the receiving team's endzone, and
which has not contacted any out-of-bounds object before so passing. A
throw-off is also automatically rendered valid if it is touched in flight by
a member of the receiving team before it reaches the endzone and before it
contacts an out-of-bounds object. All other throw-offs are invalid.

        D. 7. Failure to Catch after Touching: Whenever a member of the
receiving team makes a genuine attempt to catch the disc during its flight,
whether in or out of bounds, and the receiving team subsequently
fails to catch the disc prior to its touching the ground, the RECEIVING team
nevertheless gains possession of the disc where it stops. If the
receiving team attempts to stop or mac the disc in flight without attempting
to catch it, then possession will revert to the throwing team where the disc
stops.

        D. 8. Landing Untouched: Whenever the receiving team permits a
'valid pull' to fall untouched to the ground (whether in or out of bounds)
the receiving team gains possession of the disc where it stops. If a
valid pull subsequently touches an out-of-bounds area, the receiving team
gains possession in the playing field proper, or in the endzone,
nearest where the disc last went out-of-bounds. Note that the receiving team
may not bring the disc up to the line - if they have failed to catch or stop
a valid pull, they must play it from the point at which it left the
pitch, even if this is the BACK of their endzone.

        D. 9. Invalid Pull: The receiving team may make the choice of
putting the disc into play at the nearest point on the playing field proper
to where the disc crossed the perimeter line, invoking the "middle
rule", or invoking the "brick rule".
                a) Rethrow: There shall be no rethrows indoors.

D 9 A [additional] - Disputes: If the two sets of players on the
pitch cannot agree about whether a pull is valid or invalid, then a
compromise will be used. The disc will be played from the front centre
of the endzone: i.e. it will not be bricked, but nor need it be played from
the back or side of the endzone.

404.05 D 10. There is no total time limit between the scoring of a goal and
the ensuing throw-off. Instead, after either side has 5 players in a correct
onside position and has raised a hand to indicate readiness, the opposing
side will have only ten seconds to signal their own readiness to commence
play. The team that is ready first shall give a ten second warning, and
shall then count down from 5 if necessary. Teams may take a time-out at any
time before the 10 seconds is up, but not after.
a) If the throwing team is not ready within 10 seconds after the receiving
team, then the receiving team may immediately claim the disc and put the
disc into play either at the front centre of the endzone they are
defending, or at the brick mark nearest that endzone, without a throw-off
being made.
b) if the receiving team is not ready within 10 seconds after the throwing
team, then the throwing team may throw-off without waiting for a hand to be
raised.

404.10 D If the disc is on the playing field proper, a member of the team
becoming offense must put the disc in play within ten seconds. After ten
seconds have elapsed, a defensive player in position at the spot of the disc
may restart play by announcing "delay of game" and may initiate and continue
the stall count. In order to invoke this rule, the marker must give
warnings of ten & five seconds.
This rule should not be taken to suggest that waiting 10 seconds before
putting the disc into play is reasonable in all circumstances; it merely
provides an outside limit on how long may be taken. In general, a player
becoming offence should put the disc into play as soon as is reasonable,
allowing for the time needed to reach the disc or for the receivers to form
a stack; but if for example the main handler is at the far end of the pitch
when a turnover occurs, then the team becoming defence may hereby enforce a
MAXIMUM period of 10 seconds.

404.11 B ten becomes eight
404.11 C five becomes four
404.11 F ten becomes eight

404.16 C 4 five becomes four

405 Glossary
* Player: One of the 10 persons who are actually participating in the game
at any one time.
********************************************************************************\
********************************************************************************\
************************
Notes:

1) The pull rule. The idea is to give the throwing team every incentive to
throw a catchable pull, and to give the receiving team every incentive to
catch it, thus speeding the game up. Basically, it's got to pass through a
2m box around the endzone, and a drop is not a turnover. Everything else is
technicalities...

Some points are important:

i) The rules make no mention of whether the disc ultimately lands in or out
of bounds. All that matters is that at some point while over the endzone, it
is in clean flight and below 2m, and that it hasn't touched anything
out-of-bounds BEFORE then. So, a bounce-pull is not automatically valid
because it landed in - the rules don't care about that. In fact, a bounce
pull still needs to follow the same rules of being below 2m and all the rest
of it. So bouncers are not outlawed, but equally there's no point throwing
them.

ii) The disc must be in clean flight when reaching the endzone. This means
that short pulls can be bricked. This is to prevent rollers and short
knives, which could bend the disc and roll through people's legs; and to
prevent discs that slide out the side and disappear into another pitch,
short of the endzone, from being valid also. Both of these have the
potential to be used to deliberately slow the game down, and so are
brickable. In practice, most short pulls will not be bricked, since it will
be to the advantage of the receiving team to start playing rather than walk
to the brick mark and allow the defence to become set up.

iii) Knives are perfectly valid, provided they pass through the endzone
'box' correctly. There will be little advantage in throwing them, however,
since they reach the receviers quickly, and will be caught and put into play
before the defence reaches them. The only time they might have a use is if a
team is heavily reliant on 1 handler who always picks up - it might be
advisable to throw a knife at their long player to see if he'll run away and
leave it to roll out the back of the endzone.

iv) If you don't bother to catch a valid pull, then you will be severely
punished by having to play from the BACK of your endzone. This means that
pulls will almost always be caught, which will speed up the game, and also
that a good pull stands a chance of getting a reward.

v) The 2m rule ( about 6' 7" for those imperialists out there ) - it is
important to notice the rule on disputes. It's very simple. If there's any
debate about whether a pull is valid, just middle it and get on with the
game.

vi) The receiver must make a genuine attempt to catch the disc. The rule
that prevents cheating with regard to this is spirit of the game... You can
cheat most of the rules of Ultimate if you put your mind to it. Some have
suggested that folk might layout for every pull, in the hope of knocking it
well forward if they drop it. There's nothing to prevent this except it's
inherent pointlessness - you'd be better off catching it high and starting
play than letting it fall another metre and laying out, then getting back up
and starting play a second or two later than you would have otherwise. And
if you do knock it forward 'by accident', the chances are the throwing team
will stop it before it travels too far, and anyway they'll then have plenty
of time to set up the defence.

vii) Remember the brick is optional. You can middle it instead, or play it
where it is, if you want more space for Iso or something like that.

viii) Notice that a pull is only rendered valid by the receivers if they
touch it IN FLIGHT before it reaches their endzone - they're perfectly
entitled to stop a slider or roller without rendering it a valid pull.

ix) Offside: No rethrows. In cases of blatant offside by the throwing team,
the pull is invalid (see definition of valid pull) and can therefore be
bricked, alleviating any need for rethrows, which would just waste time. If
the receiving team are offside, they don't really gain any advantage anyway,
since they're just closer to their markers. (Unless you throw a fast flat
pull straight to an offside player, but that would be pretty daft).

2) Time between points. This allows either team to force the pace, which is
much fairer than the current rules, which in theory allow 75 seconds just
like outdoors.

3) Delay of game. I'd be amazed if this rule ever resulted in a turnover -
the 10 second warning ought to be sufficient to gee up the offence. So I
don't think it'll ever make a big difference, but at least it's there in
black and white if someone tries to time-waste.

4) New responsibilities for TDs:
a) put brick marks on the pitches
b) Give a 3-minute warning, unless there is a game-clock visible in the
hall, to help with the calling of time-outs.

On the eve of Brunel's second ladder league event, I'm sending out a
reminder that the Mohawks are hosting one the very next week.

16th November, at Sussex University.

Brunel have given an inkling of an interest, so if any teams want to
come down and play they will also have the pleasure of watching Brunel
vs Mohawks, possibly the tie that dominates this year of student
ultimate in the south east.

Hey all,

In case anyone was wondering, the list of teams there is not in order
of seed. To save the time of the few who're probably analysing the
first games to work out what the seedings must be, I've appended them
to the bottom of this email. Note that these are at my discretion and
I won't be changing my mind about the 1st teams seedings before
Regionals. The schedule pretty much done and dusted, and the 2nd
teams seedings are making it as unlikely as it can be that a team'll
meet their first team in the middle-8 bracket and be denied a place at
NTN (I'm learning, Aye-Aye, don't think I forgot about that).

Please can everyone remember to bring their Ladder League prize
donations to the tournament. So far I have two Disc Doctors discs
(never been thrown, but both have legendary 3-pint challenge
experience), on top of this people have hinted at:

Brunel Ultimate t-shirt
Holloway Hammers t-shirt
Mohawks t-shirt
Brunel Ultimate disc
Holloway Hammers disc
Surrey Scorpions discs x2

Depending on the response, the prizes will be handed out to the top
finishers and spirit winners at the end of March.

Looking forward to what should be a great competition,

Felix

Ok,

Sorry for the wait, but I can now confirm the 16 teams entered into SE
Indoor regionals in Brighton on 12/13 November are:

Mohawks
Brunel
Strange Blue
Thrown
Disc Doctors
Aye-Aye
UnderCoverLovers
Holloway Hammers
Roehampton
Reading Dragons
Surrey Scorpions
Sublime
Mohawks 2
Brunel 2
Strange Blue 2
Thrown 2

On Saturday the pools will be split between 2 venues, Sussex uni for 2
pools in the morning, and Stanley Deason (in Brighton) for 2 pools,
and 6 crossover games in the afternoon, meaning almost all teams will
have to be at Stanley Deason at the end of Saturday. Sorry about this,
but it was unavoidable.
Good news is we are at Sussex uni all day Sunday...

Team start times are as follows:

FIRST GAMES:

09:00, Sussex Uni: Surrey vs Mohawks 2, Sublime vs Thrown 2
09:20, Sussex Uni: Holloway vs Reading, Brunel vs UCL
12:30, Stanley Deason: Strange Blue vs Thrown
12:50, Stanley Deason: Mohawks vs SB2
13:10, Stanley Deason: Disc Doctors vs Brunel 2
13:30, Stanley Deason: Aye-Aye vs Roehampton

Games finish at 18:30 on Saturday, tournament finishes at 18:00 on Sunday.

Accommodation is being sorted out for those who requested it. Because
of the crazy pool start times, please could those teams that requested
accommodation confirm: if you will now be coming down Saturday instead
of Friday, or vice verse, and # of players (especially those of you
with 2 teams).

In other news, the tournament is triple elimination, same as last
year, and with the new pull rules which are being used at nationals
(they will be sent out shortly). We will also have sandwiches and
snacks available at both venues, both days, lots of prizes, and a
kick-ass party.

Captains pack with directions, schedule, and all sorts of useful stuff
will be sent out to teams entered early next week,
have a good weekend and see you all in Brighton!

Hey,
That's great JB, and will bring the number of active SEULL teams up to
14, assuming SB2&Aye-Aye2 play.

Yesterday was a success - despite late arrivals, gusty wind, driving
rain, and a final point which lasted ten minutes into the darkness and
ended with a callahan score, six games were played and the website
results & table have been updated accordingly. There were loads of
impressive layouts I saw happen in pretty much every game, and the
teams really wanted it which was good to see.

Those that played yesterday: Brunel 1 & 2, Mohawks, Surrey 2, Holloway Hammers.

On another note, does anyone want to eoi/bid for outdoor regionals yet?

Felix

Hey all,

Just a note to remind/inform you about player eligibility - this is
particularly for those teams who are planning to have players from
other universities playing for them at regionals, because their uni
doesn't have a team or because of training ground convenience etc.

Please read the rules at http://www.ukultimate.com/uniultimate/eligibility.aspx

If you have players in situations such as the ones above then please
fill in an eligibility request form for each player:
http://www.ukultimate.com/wmslib/uniultimate/10.3cic.pdf

This was supposed to be done by last weekend because regionals is
under two weeks away - so please complete asap and send to
unicoordinator@..., CC'ing myself.

Looking forward to the event in Brunel this weekend with great
anticipation! Good luck to everyone involved and keep up the awesome
ladder league fixtures!

Please read!!

For those of you driving here are the parking instructions, everything else you need is in the word file. There is also an added map of our campus.

Parking

For those of you driving here come to the east side of campus via A4020 and then Kingston Lane. Then drive down Kingston Lane you should pass the university on your right and then the pitches on your left, just after the pitches there is a car park for uses of the sports facilities. Its free parking but this means that it will get rather full so try and get here early if you can. The car park is just down the road from the yellow spot on the map.

The first SEULL 05/06 event hosted by the Mohawks was a huge success -
at 2pm on Wednesday there were about 80 people gathered on the Sussex
University campus, getting accustomed to throwing discs in the wind.
Games kicked off at 2.20pm, between three Mohawks teams, one Disc
Doctors, and Surrey Scorpions 1 & 2. Everyone got to play three games,
meaning the positions on the table have been shuffled around
considerably - with Surrey and Mohawks now occupying the top spots.

Mohawks 9 – 2 Surrey Scorpions
Disc Doctors 10 – 4 Mohawks(2)
Mohawks(3) 6 – 5 Surrey Scorpions(2)
Surrey Scorpions 8 – 2 Disc Doctors
Mohawks 12 – 1 Surrey Scorpions(2)
Mohawks(2) 2 – 4 Mohawks(3)
Mohawks 12 – 1 Disc Doctors
Surrey Scorpions 7 – 3 Mohawks(3)
Mohawks(2) 7 – 5 Surrey Scorpions(2)

After the games, the teams headed to Falmer bar where the three pint
challenge relay race commenced. Mac & Nick from the Mohawks were
passing their straws to Sarah Archer (Vomit Girl) and Louise Davey
(Baloo/Dave) from Surrey, and Bob & Greg from Mohawks were passing to
George & John from Imperial. After an impressive 17.7s by Mac & Nick
gave them a few seconds head start, Sarah and Louise were fighting
against George & John for victory. It was neck and neck the whole way,
and when it came to the last few seconds Imperial just pipped the
Surrey girls to the post, each of them finishing in ~40sec. Has a new
Ladder League tradition been started?

Thanks to everyone who came & made it such a great day,

Felix

I'm hoping that the first league event went well in Brighton. To
follow it and jump on the bandwagon Brunel Ultimate are offering a
fixture:

Where? Brunel University campus West London
When? 1.30pm 02/11/2005
Who? At the moment Brunel 1&2

After the games we're more than happy to head off to the bar on
campus with anyone that is up for it.

If you want to get involved then email:

Shimmy, (d_p_gate @hotmail.com)

We will only be able to fit 3 pitches in max so spaces may be
limited. Contact Shimmy for more details.

Cheers
Matt
Brunel Ultimate.

With 266 people casting votes, 193 consider yourselves sufficiently
educated to judge the 'Best Club Tournament of the Year', where 196 have
been honest enough to admit they don't follow the Junior scene closely
enough to decide on a 'Most Spirited Junior Team'.

There are runaway leaders in a couple of categories, where others are
still a dead heat. Maybe it reflects the quality of the nominees, but
if you haven't voted yet, then don't rue your chance come midnight
Saturday. Peruse the award descriptions and the full list of candidates
at http://www.ukultimate.com/2005/awards/index.aspx, and log in to
register your opinion. Our generous sponsors Lookfly have done their
bit in backing the awards, now do your bit by making your vote count!

Final, non-hyperbolic notes:
* If you vote more than once, only your most recent vote will count.
So, whether it was error or cynicism that made certain people vote ten
times in the space of a few minutes, the processing system will bleach
out either flaw.
* If you think there's anyone who may not get this message, who doesn't
read their member update, or who may just be forgetful, please don't
hesitate to remind them to vote. As in previous years, it may come down
to one or two ballots, so everyone is important. If that means
forwarding this email to your team egroup/chat forum/BBS/whatever, do it.

Thanks in advance,
