South East
Attached is the Schedule, Captains Pack and other info for this weekends regional qualifier. There are a few things I need to run through before the weekend.
Schedule.
4 pools of 6. Top 3 finishers go into 12 team triple elimination. Next 8 play single elimination. Bottom 4 play round robin.
Qualifiers.
Top 3 go to Nationals. Next 3 go to Division 2.
National events.
It is worth noting that teams, if they qualify for a Nationals spot, are obliged to take that spot. The ratio of qualification to Div 1 and Div 2 is changing next year with this year being the year that determines the change. Below is the explanation and science:
As our sport evolves, regions are getting more consistent in
performance, and thus we are becoming more flexible with how we manage
qualification for Nationals. Here's how things are going to be
changed so as to, over time, and with flexibility, allow stronger
performing regions the chance to earn a higher ratio of qualification
spots to Division 1 over Division 2 Nationals.
In these calculations, Ireland are always ignored (they earn 1 spot in
each division regardless), and indoors & outdoors are calculated &
applied completely separate to each other.
Each region will still have six teams qualify for the National event
each year, however instead of a 3:3 split (Div1:Div2), it may change
to a 4:2 or 2:4 split - but never 5:1/1:5. A region cannot go from a
2:4 split to 4:2 in one year, or vice versa.
These calculations will begin from Nationals this year, so potentially
the regional tournaments in your 08/09 season could have 4:2/2:4
qualification ratios.
The calculation:
Take the regions of the bottom five teams from Division 1, and the top
five teams from Division 2.
If a region appears twice in the top 5 of Div2, they get +1 point (+2
points if they appear three times). If a region doesn't appear in the
bottom 5 of Div1, they get +1 point.
If a region appears twice in the bottom 5 of Div1, they get -1 point
(-2 points if they appear three times). If a region doesn't appear in
the top 5 of Div2, they get -1 point.
If region A finishes with -2 points or more, and region B with +2
points or more (and all the other regions remain under 2 points for
the purposes of this example), a qualification spot for Div1 is
shifted from A to B accordingly. If they were both previously 3:3,
the +2 region next year qualifies four teams to Div1 and two to Div2,
whereas the -2 region will qualify four to Div2 and two to Div1.
If more than one team gets +2 or -2 points or more, the highest/lowest
finisher is affected first. If there is a tie on points, finishing
averages are taken to find the highest and lowest scoring regions. If
two regions get +2 points and two regions get -2 points, then all four
regions will have their qualification ratios modified.
The committee retains the right to refine these guidelines as the year
progresses, in order to resolve any unforseen circumstances.

I, personally am 'for' the idea I think. What it does mean however is that if you qualify for Nationals, you NEED to go. You need to 'represent' (brutha). If you qualify and can't make it, you must give the 7th place team enough of a chance to get a team to replace you.
Over the course of last year, 3 of the 12 teams that qualified for a National event, didn't go. This obviously will weaken our chances of increasing/maintaining our ratio. This brings us nicely onto seeding:
Seeding.
In light of the dropouts last year, some teams have been seeded lower than they would usually be placed. This is because seeding is calculated by averaging a teams nationals ranking. If you went and performed badly you will be seeded higher than a team that didn't go. The seedings for this weeks tournament is as follows:
1. Mohawks I
2. Brunel I
3. Sublime I
4. UCL I
5. Surrey I
6. HU?
7. Thrown I
8. dD I
9. Kent I
10. RUF
11. Essex
12. Mohawks II
13. Brunel II
14. Sublime II
15. UCL II
16. Surrey II
17. Thrown II
18. dD II
19. Kent II
20. Mohawks III
21. Brunel III
22. Surrey III
23. Sublime III
24. dD III
The Schedule is attached. Any obvious problems, give me a shout but it looks pretty watertight (or as watertight as any schedule...)
The captains pack is also attached.
1st Reserve by the way is Thrown 3.
Hope that's all OK SouthEast, as usual, contact me with any issues. Good Luck and I will see you all on Saturday.
