Important: Bid dates!   Message List

Hey South-easters,

Ed (Uni Coordinator) sent an email out to the uniultimate list recently (see
below) with some important information in.
I'd like to reiterate some important dates as they relate directly to us and
need to be acted on before 5 weeks from now. With importance!

SE Regionals, 5/6 or 12/13 November:

EOIs deadline: 1st September
Bids deadline: 16th September

Email me with your EOIs as soon as you can...

Div2 Nationals, 26/27 November or 3/4 December:

EOIs deadline: 15th September
Bids deadline: 30th September

Email Ed (unicoordinator@...), CC me please.

Personally I'd prefer to see SE Regionals hosted on 12/13th, as Edinburgh
Beginners is on the 5/6th and some teams may want to go to that. The other
beginners tournaments, nearer by, are hosted 1 (Loboro) or 2 (Sheff) weeks
earlier, so the date will actually have little effect on the strength of the
bid.

Division 2 Nationals (previously NTN) will be hosted in the South this year,
which means it could go to someone in our region or someone in the South
West. It'd be really encouraging for freshers to be able to easily attend a
tournament like this, so seriously start considering whether you can host
it, and put in an EOI even if you're bidding for Regionals.

Basic requirements for these tournaments are at least two halls which can
hold 4/5 badminton courts, and try to get a minimum of 26hrs total hall
time. After that, accomodation, car parking space, and the schedule just
require a bit of time to sort out, and the money can then be used to
subsidise your team for a while, as well as promoting the sport throughout
your university and getting your freshers hooked. If you're not confident
about first-time hosting then organise a mini freshers tournament anyway, we
need as much going on for freshers as we can get, and you can think bigger
for next year.

Another massive thing to look forward to - the South is hosting Outdoor
Nationals on 29/30 April, 2006! Get thinking about possible venues!

I hope to have the Ladder League plans and website fully updated and ready
to go by mid-September, so please check your team's info and send me some
details! Still missing Aye-Aye, Reading, Sublime & Essex's descriptions,
which probably means some of the contact info is out of date too...

If you've not seen it, also take a look at http://www.seultimate.org/womens/
- and feedback whatever you can, including info about geo mixed/womens teams
to play with outside of term time, info about the women's side of your team,
or just something cool for the Misc section.

That's all for now, I hope plenty of you have found teams to practice with
during the holidays,

Felix

Good evening UU,
As I'm sure most of you are aware this month I am taking over from Rich
as University Coordinator and thought I would say a few words about some
important things that are coming up - namely dates for this season &
BUSA recognition.

So here goes:

**DATES**
The UU Coordinators Committee are still working on the dates for this
year's programme & I'm waiting on responses from other board members to
ensure that we have minimal clashes with UKUA events (Indoors &
Outdoors).
When this calendar is completed I shall upload it to the UU filespace
for all to view.

However there are some things that are already sorted so I'll give you
all a quick rundown.

Open Outdoor Nationals:
As usual this will be held on the May Bank Holiday w/end - 29/30 April.
As per the rotation system, Division 1 will be held in the South &
Division 2 in the North.
The venues will be announced 2 months beforehand so bids should be in by
the 24th February with EOIs (Expressions Of Interest) by the end of
January.
GET IT IN YOUR DIARIES & IF YOU ARE IN THE NORTH OR SOUTH THEN START
THINKING ABOUT BIDDING NOW!

Open Indoor Championships:
Again these will be over by Christmas with dates as follows:

Regionals - 5/6 or 12/13 November
Nationals - 26/27 November or 3/4 December
Division 1 will be in Scotland & Division 2 in the South.

Venues for these should be known before the start of term so we have the
following bid deadlines:

REGIONALS - 16th SEPTEMBER (EOIs by 1st September)
NATIONALS - 30th SEPTEMBER (EOIs by 15th September inc losing regional
bids)

So please lets start getting those bids in.

**BUSA**
We shall be bidding for BUSA recognition this year so I thought I'd
dispel a few myths, explain the process & how people can help.

Some people think that Ultimate has failed to get BUSA recognition
because we don't use referees. This of course is crap.
The reason the last bid was rejected was because the NGB wasn't in a
good state but mainly because Ultimate is not a registered sport in the
UK. To become a sport in the UK we need to have circa 5000 affiliated
players.
However it does state in the 'Criteria for Inclusion Pack' that if an
activity is not a UK Sports Council sport it could be included if it can
show 'overwhelming support from the membership.'

So how can you help?

It's simple, the more students we get signed up with the UKUA the better
as this can help the UKUA to become recognised by the UK Sports
Councils.
Also later in the year I shall be hassling the BUSA membership for
letters of support and at that time I shall ask you all to speak to the
Sports Officer at your institution to make sure the letter of support
gets signed. (Although I'm fairly confident that, as I've been out
drinking with them all, they'll sign anyhow but these people often need
reminding!)

I'm just making sure that we do everything exactly by the book as it's a
very important issue. In fact on Monday we accepted Pool & Ju Jitsu into
BUSA & rejected Ice Hockey & Futsal (a bid from the FA.)

Regards,
