This sound great malcolm. Just the sort of thing we need. I think the
clubs need to think who they actually have to send to this because the
top players may well be committed to open teams already. What I'm
really saying is that players need to learn to practise quality not
quantity.
Bring on the outdoors (I believe thats the first Smindoor bashing this
uni year)

ok i really want to do this. i think it will be huge for the
development of
SE uni ultimate. and british ultimate in general
i propose we set up a SE uni team...as suggested before....but...this
is
how i see it working and benefiting all of SE rather than just the few
already elite players. i will need strong objections with good
arguments to
disuade from going ahead with this. im very excited! ha i havent even
got
to explaining it yet and im already joyous at the thoughts of us all
pulling this off!
ok... here goes
1. We set up a team for Open winter league.
2. We train once a month. if Open winter league is on sundays we train
the
saturday before. if it is on saturdays we train the weekend before.
3. 5 players maximum are allowed to attend from each uni. it is upto
the
uni to decide who they send. they could send the keenest, the best, the
ones they want to improve the most...its upto them but basically they
are
allowed to send a car full.
4. Two players from each uni that comes will be gauranteed to play in
the
first team at Open winter league
5. Two players/or maybe all Three will be gauranteed to play second
team
6. If a uni has three very good players they may all get selected for
the
first team. but never stopping at least Two players from each
university
from being in the firsts.
7. Universities will only get their gauranteed two slots if at least
two
players attend the training clinics. ( i would like to make it that
these
two slots are given to the two who make training but would like to hear
peoples suggestions on the matter)
So this has huge benefits......let me list some of the ones i see
1. We would come together as a region.
2. Individual players in the region who are keen enough to train and
play
will improve
3. Our SE teams will improve. because at least two of their players
will
play Open winter league. and five will train with good coaches and
experienced playes every month.
4. We can share drills and ideas for training. the five who attend can
bring back everything they learn to their teams. once again improving
the
level of play in our region
5. It gives young players something immeediate to aspire to. for a
small
team where first team selection is gauranteed it offers a level of
competiveness and a reason to improve within the club.
So can we make this happen? I propose the first training is on the
Common
on Saturday October the ninth. does anyone have any objections or
suggestions to improve this plan. this is likely to be the day before
the
first winter league.
below i will list some possible reactions and arguments against them.
thanks mal
1. My uni team is already sending a team to open winter league: this
means
you probably have a strong base of players. why not share the wealth
and
let two of your players play in the SE team. this will only benefit
your
region making university ultimate more of a challenge and therfor more
rewarding
hmm already struggling for ideas
2. We are too busy to send players to this because we are going to
beginner
tournies etc: you only need to commit two players to this. your club
will
benefit more from sending people to both. beginners probably wont be
expected at the clinics at the beginning of the year and you dont need
to
send all your experienced players to beginner tournies! they wont get
pitch
time anyway!
3. Why is this stuff always on clapham: because i know clapham common.
i
know when it will be free and its kind of a home for london ultimate.
if
you have places just as suitable suggest them. im sure it would work at
the
royal holloway campus etc.
