Marion Bartoli had an excellent win at Birmingham, knocking out 13th
seed Emilie Loit 6-1 6-3 in the first round! It's encouraging to see
that she can win on grass.
In the second round, Marion had a walkover over Evie Dominikovic (who
strained her quadriceps), while Maria Sharapova made headlines as she
was asked to tone down her grunting during her 6-3 6-2 upset of fifth
seed Nathalie Dechy. Marion may have the Selesian groundstrokes, but
I've heard^H^H^H^H^Hread that Maria grunts even louder than MONICA!
In the third round, Marion put up a good performance against top seed
Elena Dementieva, but lost 4-6 6-3 6-4.
