Jan-Michael Gambill won the International Championships at Delray
Beach, Florida on Sunday, after the following victories:
1r + Nicolas Kiefer, 6-2 6-4
2r + Justin Gimelstob (WC), 7-5 7-5
qf + Flavio Saretta, 4-6 7-6 (7-3) 6-0
sf + Robert Kendrick (Q), 6-3 2-6 7-6 (7-5)
f + Mardy Fish, 6-0 7-6 (7-5)
Fish started nervously, and had trouble controlling his big serve.
Jan-Michael took advantage, and made some sharp returns in winning
the first set.
Fish settled in the second set, and even had a 3-0 lead in the
tiebreak before Jan-Michael fought back to win this title for the
second time in three years. It's the third ATP singles title of his
career.
"I was firing on all cylinders. That was by far the best match I've
played all week, especially against someone who was playing as well
as Mardy has been."
I've added five photos to the Jan-Michael Gambill album in Photos.
Jan-Michael Gambill is my favourite player in men's tennis, because
he is the best Selesian.
