Unfortunately, Monica injured her left foot (yet again) whilst
practising at her home in Sarasota over the weekend, and has had to
withdraw from the Pacific Life Open at Indian Wells. :-(
"I'm really disappointed I won't be able to make it to Indian Wells
this year. It's such a wonderful tournament and I was looking forward
to the Pacific Life Open after reaching the semi-finals last year.
I've had some great matches in Indian Wells and some very fond
memories, especially winning the title in 1992."
The loss of her semi-final points means Monica will drop out of the
top eleven after Indian Wells. :-(
At least I still have Jelena Dokic, Iva Majoli and Iroda Tulyaganova
at Indian Wells. But my main loyalty will be firmly with Daniela
Hantuchová (my second favourite after Monica) as she defends the
first (and latest) WTA singles title of her career.
On a brighter note, I have updated the Photos section of this Group:
+ MONICA and Jan-Michael Gambill
+ Jan-Michael Gambill and MONICA
* María Antonia Sánchez Lorenzo album (+1 photo)
* Marion Bartoli album (+2 photos)
+ Sonya Jeyaseelan album (3 photos)
Sonya Jeyaseelan is a Selesian not just in terms of her two-handed
forehand and backhand, but also in the way she overcame adversity to
play again - in her case, brain-surgery.
