Men's Doubles final
-------------------
- FABRICE SANTORO/NENAD ZIMONJIC [6] lt. BOB BRYAN/MIKE BRYAN [1],
3-6 6-4 4-6 2-6
The match started at approximately 16:45 BST (BBC 1 missed the first
game).
The Bryan twins are identical, except that Mike is right-handed, Bob
left-handed. They have this amusing habit of jumping up and bumping
chests, like the Teletubbies!
The Bryans were chasing the only Men's Doubles Grand Slam title to
have eluded them: Wimbledon.
Nenad played on the left when we were returning, and Mike played on
the left when the Bryans were returning.
First Set:
SANTO/ZIMON _* *___*_ 3

Nenad serving 0-1: Held to 30 with a Fabrice forehand smash-winner
at 15/15.
Mike serving 1-1: Easy hold.
Fabrice serving 1-2: Fabrice's serve is "like a pea-shooter compared
to Zimonjic's delivery" [Peter Fleming]. Fabrice hit a volley long
to give away break-point at 30/40, which Nenad saved with a forehand
volley-winner. We won the next two points to hold.
Bob serving 2-2: Held to 30 with huge serving (Nenad backhand pass-
winner down the line).

points with huge serving and errors from the Bryans.

baseline, but we couldn't stop Bob holding with huge serves and
dynamic volleys from Mike. The Bryans are so tall that ordinary
volleys are like smashes for them!
Fabrice serving 1-1: Nenad backhand volley long. 0/15. Nenad
backhand volley-winner on the line. 15/15. Nenad backhand volley-
winner. 30/15. Nenad forehand volley-winner. 40/15. Double fault.

started theirs, during which Bob hit a backhand winner round the net-
post, and Nenad held to 30.
Bob serving 2-3: Held to 15.
Fabrice serving 3-3: Serve + Nenad forehand volley-winner. 15/0.
Nenad backhand volley-winner. 30/0. We got the better of a rat-a-tat
net-exchange when Mike hit a forehand volley wide. 40/0. Serve +
Nenad backhand volley-winner.
Mike serving 3-4: Held to love.
Nenad serving 4-4: Santoro hit a stunning two-handed forehand volley-
winner at the feet of a Bryan as Nenad held to love.
Bob serving to stay in the second set at 4-5: A brilliant return
from Nenad made it 30/30, and Nenad hit a forehand smash-winner to
give us set-point at 30/40! Bob got a huge serve in, but a netcord
allowed Nenad to hit a forehand volley-winner! Fabrice and Nenad won
the second set 6-4 at 17:42.
It's very strange that we won that second set, because we weren't
getting close to the Bryans' serves at all - our very first break-
point was set-point!
