Selesian winner:

Zi: "I am very happy to be in my first Tour final here in China. It
has been very difficult to play in the heat this week, but I feel I
am playing very well so I am hoping I can win my first title."
Zi forfeited her doubles semi-final with right-shoulder tendonitis.
I hoped this was just a precautionary withdrawal...

Final
-----
Shame it had to be this way:
+ Yan,Zi d. NURIA LLAGOSTERA VIVES [6], 6-4 4-0 retired
(left-hamstring strain)
Zi: "I am very, very happy to win my first WTA Tour singles title.
Until this week, I really didn't think I ever would win one.
"The conditions were very difficult all week because of the extreme
heat, but I managed to hold up against it. The media here asked me
why I looked sad and why I wasn't doing my normal 'fist-pumps' after
winning points, and I told them I didn't have any energy left over
for to show any emotion. The heat took all the energy I had, so I
just had to focus very hard and concentrate on each point.
"I am confident now that I can beat some of these higher-ranked
players, and I hope to continue to move up in the rankings. I am
very happy with my week in GuangZhou."
Llagostera Vives: "I just couldn't move today. It wasn't the heat,
it was because I hurt my leg and I just couldn't play properly. I
had a very good week, but I am disappointed that I couldn't play
better today. Yan played very well and I give all the credit to her
for playing a great match."
