It would be helpful if you can rsvp to me directly (by the end of Thursdayso I have an idea of how much food and drink we'll need.

The May beginners' series starts May 4:

Mondays: 6 - 7:15 with Rupert
Wednesdays: 7:15 - 8:15  with Laura

I will make fliers and place them in the dojo (desk, bench, front door), please take and distribute, and don't forget to tell your friends, neighbors and coworkers next time they ask, "How do you do it?" say, "Because of Aikido" then whip out a flier to give to them. This means you have an imperative duty to be really fabulous for the next two weeks. You can do it!

    IMHO

    1. An expert walks down the street, sees trouble ahead and is prepared for it. A master walks down the street and sees trouble ahead, then crosses to the other side of the street.

    2. An expert swiftly dispatches attackers and if possible brings the conflict to a peaceful resolution. A master toys with his opponent as a father does with his child.

    3. An expert practices tirelessly to improve his art and the art as a whole. A master practices tirelessly because that is what he does.

Hard one, and probably more a question on philosophy that Aikido as you could apply the question to anything. IMHO...

An expert would quickly dispatch their attackers in a fight.
A master wouldn't get into the fight in the first place.

An expert likes everyone to know their an expert.
    A master simply doesn't care.

I have no doubt in your ability to facilitate an excellent training session if no other yudansha wants to lead those classes.

Thanks for being there.

Hello all,

I’m going to be attending the endo-shihan seminar at seattle central cc this coming weekend, Friday april 3, Saturday april 4, and Sunday april 5.

Thus, I will not be able to teach Friday night or Sunday morning.

Is there anyone who is able to teach these classes for me?  Or at least open the dojo and facilitate an “open training session”?

Thanks,

-        john

the seminar info is attached, and even if you don’t have the cash, if you’re free, it’s still a treat to sit on the bleachers and watch.  No camera or video is allowed though.  Oh, and if you do attend, please bring sandals to use from the locker room to the mat.

can i get a little better idea as to what kind of cabinet we want?  tall, short, bookshelfish?, desk like?  people kind of treat me like some kind of recycling center, so i may have something, or could come up with something relatively easy.

A few notices and reminders:
1.  Betsy O'Donnell will be our visiting instructor on Monday April 13 from 6:00 to 7:15.   Please plan to come and partake of her enthusiastic teaching.   No extra charge.

2.  If at all possible in April, attend the seminar of Endo sensei or Frank Doran sensei.  Both  studied with O-Sensei, and it's good to take advantage of their visits here in Seattle.  Pre-registration is encouraged.  See the bulletin board for more information.

3.  Remember to sweep the mat and take a swipe at the dust after practice.  If you are going to practice after class (highly recommended)  be sure to do a little misogi first, and then return to the mat.

4.  As you know, the black cabinet which was in the front of the dojo collapsed and the pieces are lying in the men's changing room.  It cannot be repaired.  If you are making a dump run (or have access to a dumpster) could you  please haul it off?  I suppose we could take a hammer to it and everybody take a piece home to their garbage cans....

5.  We would like to have some kind of cabinet at the front of the dojo. If you have a  small cabinet at home that you think might work, please tell someone on the board.

6.  Be an ambassador for Seattle School of Aikido!  Keep talking about aikido to your friends and neighbors.  People come to the dojo in many ways, but one way is that they heard about it from you or a friend of yours.  The more people we have to train with, the more fun we can have.

7.  Save the date:  Friday April 24 Testing   and   Friday May 29 (that's the weekend after Memorial Day) for the all-dojo meeting.

See you on the mat!

Christy

I am pleased to announce that Betsy O'Donnell will be teaching a class
at SSA on Monday 4/13, 6:00 - 7:15 pm. I encourage you to attend. Like
others of us in recent years, Betsy has been very inspired in her
training by Jan Nevelius and Frank Ostoff senseis.

This class is free for SSA members.

Thanks John!  Colleen and I had a great time.  Yummy food, yummy beer, nice people.  I’m sorry I missed the movie – I love that one!
