Insurance
We should compare the bid ($1m coverage for $850/yr) with other dojos
Board is protected, but instructors are not – can we fix that?
Christy to call Kimberly and Joanne; also
From Mikefs email
The story so far, in brief. We pay $550 a year, a minimum (i.e., bottom of the line) premium.
The recommendations were to:
1. Shove our current goccurrence limith from $500,000 to $1 million.
2. Add ghired, non-ownedh coverage. This means if somebody from the dojo is picking up pizza for the group and hits a mother who is the sole support of 12 kids, we would be covered.
3. Check to see if seminars are covered, or if they are considered tournaments.
4. Check to see if the board of directors are covered in the event of a lawsuit. If not, cover them.
5. Check to see if instructors are covered in the event of a lawsuit. If not, cover them.
I have talked with Gavin Anderson, our underwriter at Markel Insurance Company, 800-900-1155, ext. No. 7532. We are policy 3602HF039897.13.
Gavin said:
1. To increase to $1 million would raise our annual premium to $850.
2. Market does not at present, but might soon, offer ghired, non-ownedh coverage.
3. Seminars, at least when physically at our dojo, are covered, and do not count as tournaments. We donft even want to think about tournament coverage.
4. The board is covered by our policy.
5. The instructorsc hmmc are they employees? Employees would be covered. They volunteer? Hmm. I donft know. What do you mean you donft know—what if we paid them a dollar a year – nightmaresc..

Re: dues structure: We didn't come to a conclusion about multiple month discounts for non-ACH
Payments, but itfs a good idea to encourage multiple month payments, regardless of the payment method. We will also post a kidsf dues structure posted next to the adults one.
