Subject: Recruiting a kids class instructor.

Our faithful teacher of four years, Zenith, has given notice that as of
August 31st, 2008 she will no longer be able to teach the kids classes.
As soon as possible, we would like to identify a new instructor (or
maybe co-instructors, or instructor + dependable assistant/s) so
s/he/they could start training with Zenith to become familiar with the
kids program.

If you are at least 3rd kyu and enjoy working with children, please
consider this position. Zenith says "Teaching the kid's classes has been
one of the most rewarding experiences I've ever had. Watching the kids
develop confidence in their bodies and in their ability to interact well
with others is a true joy. They delight in rolls, in knee walking, as
well as the techniques and games. They come back from vacations with
great stories of having fallen safely from skis, bikes, you name it.
Plus, they are hilarious. As for my own education, there are so many
levels to what I've gained and learned it is impossible to tell all. In
aikido, it's given me a much more detailed sense of my own movement, a
deeper awareness, and has strengthened my sensitivity to other's
movements in a way that I don't believe working with adults can do."

Here's what's involved:

1. Teach at least 3-4 classes a week of kids ages 5 to typically 13.
Class size currently averages 4-15 students. The current schedule is:

Tuesday 4:45-5:45 PM
Saturday 10:30-12:00 PM
12:15-1:15 PM
(While the schedule can be somewhat adjusted to your needs, it must be
suitable for kids, i.e. after school and/or on the weekend.)

2. Keep an email list of parents and maintain communication about class
schedules, tests, celebrations, etc.

3. Register new students, collect punch card fees, monitor payments.

4. Keep track of individuals' progress, schedule tests, and confer
promotions as appropriate.

5. Arrange for a substitute or give adequate notice to parents if
unable to teach as scheduled.

Compensation is $150 per month plus waiver of dojo dues.

If you are interested or want more information, OR if you have any
ideas about potential kids teachers or programming, please contact me.
You could also get in touch with Zenith at 206-851-8550, or email
zenith_san@..., or show up at a kids class and help out.

Thanks!
Christy Purdy
