The Monday a.m. class arrived to find the ceiling back by the heater partly collapsed and water and plaster cascading down on the desk etc. The landlady showed up about 20 minutes after we found her number (note to self: post landlady's contact info at dojo to avoid waking Jain) and a couple of roofers she called got there a few minutes later. The leak is stopped, and the mat is fine, but the back of the dojo is soaked. All furniture has been moved mostly forward, but all is very wet -- including the men's changing room. The damage extends along the ceiling toward the bathroom, and down the wall by where the bookcase used to be. Mat is usable for practice. The landlady is going to deal with plaster repair. but we'll have to let the back carpet dry -- or tear it out -- to see the damage there. I set the floor fan going to keep the air moving back beneath the heater. And I tried to use Kim's little fan in the men's changing room, but it shorted out and I took it away before anybody else tries to kill themselves. The heater still seems to work fine.
Dane documented damage with a digital camera.
Thanks for Christy -- who spearheaded things this morning -- and Dane, Eric, Andrew and Christopher for helping.
