This weekend's USA Rugby Senior Women's Club Championship matches are being streamed live on line via www.usarugby.org . Matches are on Friday November 9 and Sunday November 11 in Stanford, Florida).
Further instructions are below in John Broker's email but suffice it to say if you're interested in seeing more broadcast support for women's rugby you need to "vote" w/ your clicker and watch the event.
The announced referee assignments for the semi-finals on Friday (all times Eastern US GMT-5):
Plate Semi-Finals, Friday, November 9, 2007
Match 1. 10:00 amPhiladelphia vs ORSU (Oregon Sports Union Rugby
Club)
Referee: Paul Bethe (NFG, Northeast) Performance Reviewer:Mike Cobb
Match 2. 12:00 (noon) Keystone vs Atlanta Referee: Karen Lozada (Rugby Canada) Performance Reviewer:Dave Metcalfe
Cup Semi-Finals, Friday, November 9, 2007
Match 3. 2:00 pm Twin City Amazons vs Berkeley
Referee: Simon Page (NP, South) Performance Reviewer:TBA
Match 4. 4:00 pm New York vs Beantown Referee: Dana Teagarden (NFG, Southern California)
This weekend's USA Rugby Senior Women's Club Championship matches are being streamed online......
Directions are below......
The games can be clicked through from the usarugby.org website - the link will be on the front page. It will be a live download stream. It comes up on windows media player or whichever player someone has. My one recommendation is to have a strong internet connection. If wireless is spotty or weak it can come through poorly. From solid cable lines with a good monitor
it comes through television quality. Anything to help spread the word is greatly appreciated. We can see the numbers of people that watch from their click-throughs, so if we want to keep broadcasting womens events, we are hoping for good numbers. John

I have been invited to attend a USA Rugby meeting in Denver to discuss women's rugby in the US and to represent SoCal.
I am reaching out to all of you to give you the opportunity to tell me what you think. What works, what doesn't, how we can improve, what can USA Rugby do to make things better, etc. etc.
I can't guarantee that I can voice everyone's opinion, but I need to find out what all of you think before I go to National and represent you. So please speak up. Pass this around. And respond to me directly, to save everyone's inbox the hassle!
The meeting is tentatively scheduled for October 14th, so please respond to me before October 8th so that I can gather my thoughts for the meeting.
I just survived Hell week at school.......... with more hell weeks to come.
I am sooooo glad I had the opportunity to see you all in Philly. Those memories may be all that keep me going in the craziest down here.......
Attached is a flyer for the Mardi Gras Tournament (thank you Sarah). We want to have 12
teams....... 2 divisions. Please forward this to any teams you think might be interested. It falls on Ground Hog Day this year....... I know we had discussed doing royalty as the theme, but maybe we should incorporate this holiday?
Miss you all,
peggy

Congrats on your induction as President into the SCRFU EC for next year! I actually had a small favor to ask of you. I don't have the e-mail address for the UCLA alumni women. Now, I'm pretty sure you gave it to me already, but I've searched and searched my e-mail archives and I can't find anything. So I'm coming to you, defeated, asking if you could please send me that address again.
Thanks so much, Marni! Say "Hi!" to Lisa and Baxter for me!! Middy

My name is Marni Vath, and I currently reside in Los Angeles, just south of

SCRFU Treasurer for the last two years. I have retired from play and I assist
with the coaching for the UCLA WRFC when my schedule allows. But my true skill
set lies in financial and operational management.
I work full time in financial management in Beverly Hills for a small holdings

Lastly, I would like to thank Jason Scott for all his years of service. He has

I only hope that I can live up to the reputation he has established for this

Dear Fellow Ruggers:
We lost Cap Pelletier only days ago, but it seems that
we already have missed him for a long time. We miss
his presence, his tireless effort, and zest for our
sport and what it represents.
To some rugby represents a form of exercise,
entertainment, sport, and\or social gathering.
To Cap and others like him it was also part his being.
Cap belongs to the ages now; we preferred it when he
belonged to us.
Cap had a good life. In that good life, he valued
above all his wife, Barbara. Those watched Cap
realized that when he was in a crowded environment,
there was only one person who could make him lonely by
just leaving the room.
Rugby honors you, Barbara, for the time, sacrifice
and joy you allowed this man to bestowed on us, and to
that journey's end. Today, our rugby nation grieves
with you and your family.
Death has done all that death can do. As Cap
Pelletier goes his way, we are
left with the joyful convictions he shared.
In his last couple years, Cap's health was an issue.
Despite his health, Cap never ceased to spend
his time improving rugby, its referees and youth.
Cap's departure is stern reminder that we are all
brief visitors on this little planet which we believe
is the center of the universe. All too soon, we look
to that fine day when we will see him again, all
weariness gone, strong and smiling. Until that time
comes, let's not take for granted what we have.
Cap would frequently say when a bold idea was
presented, "well, why the heck not. Seize the
moment."
May God bless Cap Pelletier, his wife Barbara and all
of us who had the pleasure and the honor having him
part of our lives.
In lieu of flowers, Cap's wife, Barbara, has requested
that you make donations to Southern California Youth
Rugby. Cap would have wanted it that way.
Please send any donations to: 1286 University Ave Ste
703, San Diego, CA 92103-3312.
Note: Cap died on June 6, 2007 due to complications
from Gastrointestinal surgery.
Cap's funeral is at 9:00 a.m. Thursday June 21, at Ft.
Rosecrans in San Diego. All are welcome.

Per my email
April 30th (below), the AGM is this Sunday, June 17th @
8:30am. Special Olympics are taking place on the CSULB campus so you will
need to show 10 minutes early to take the walk to the Gym/Room 59 into
consideration as parking directly behind the gym could be full.
I know, I
know, I know, the 17th is Daddy’s day. I did not realize
that when I originally set this up 5 months ago (realize that is the advanced
notice CSULB needs to secure a room for us!!!). I wasn’t told by
any of you that it was Ol’ Man’s day until just 2 weeks ago, so you
can see why this can’t be rescheduled (never mind there are tournaments
every other weekend). Totally my fault so blame me, no one else.
Elections for
the Prez, VP, Treasurer, Secretary and all reps take place at this meeting so
make sure you club is represented (at least by proxy – see proxy rules
and regulations!!!)
Attached is
the Agenda. I will not make copies so print this out if you want
something to write your notes on!
Directions to PE Building Room 59 (park in
the area that has #3 on it on the map)
My last correspondence via email to this

Just so you know, I'm changing my e-mail address and will be using phoebeboone@... from now on. I assume this'll become kind of important later when we host the second camp, but I'm looking forward to seeing you all on Saturday!
Open tryouts for U23 SoCal Griffins start Saturday at Cantwell High School,
329 Garfield Ave, Montebello, CA. Camp will go from 9am-5pm, Saturday only.
Scrimmage will be included.
This camp is open to any females under 23 years of age. You do not need
previous select side experience to attend camp! In fact, we would like as
many of you to attend as possible!!
Please bring your CIPP# and photocopy of health insurance.

All, the U23 team needs scrimmages the 12th and 20th of April. They have a
shot at #1 this year, but need matches to prepare. Is anyone interested?
UCLA can provide a field the 12th.

So, I've received a few more payments. The only club team left on the "NOT IN GOOD STANDING LIST" is:

I realize that Jaxs has taken over the reigns, so I will make this brief:
There was one game this weekend between UCSB and UCSD. Neither team filled in their rosters on-line, nor has either team reported a final score.
There are several games scheduled this weekend. None of the teams I checked have filled in their rosters.
The SCRFU EC has mandated that all teams use this on-line match reporting system. Please use this system, or you may risk qualifying to advance to Nationals!
Should anyone need a lesson in using the system, please let me know, and I would be more than happy to help.

SCRFU Treasurer

The SCRFU is at the forefront of the USA rugby community regarding match
reports. The SCRFU Executive Committee has used your monies over the last
few years to put this process in place – read that again, your monies!!!
Why have we done this, to reduce the amount of “questionable
activities” so that we determine the true winner at the end of each
weekend!
Given all of the above, and to reiterate spending your clubs dues
monies, why doesn’t every club in the Union
take advantage of this awesome process. It makes life easier at all
levels – Club administrator; Union administrator; USAR administrator;
casual website browser, etc!!!
For those of you with a computer and a printer (with ink in it!) and a
cable from the computer to the printer and internet access, it makes all the
sense in the world to move to this format. Why? Because you do not
have to re-enter any of the data on a weekly basis. This is correct; you
do not have to manually write down all of the names of the players, the CIPP
numbers, and the SCRFU ID cards on a weekly basis.
Now that I have vented, you have two responsibilities:
EVERYClub utilizes the Match Report
System starting this evening for your matches this weekend!!!
THE WINNING club inputs the
scores of the matches (A & B side) into the Match Reports System (Union administer to verify after receiving the
mailed in Match Report with the Referee’s signature)
Guarantee you will spend more time on the match report the first time
you use it than you would by manually write everything out, but the other 9
weeks will be a cake walk!
According to the SCRFU P & P's, Scetion 23, sub-division C1:
"Teams who have not paid dues must forfeit all league games until dues are received by the Treasurer."
Please note, the following four men's club teams have not paid dues as of yet:
BACK BAY
LASVEGAS BLACKJACKS
OXY OLD BOYS
SANPEDRO / RED RHINOS (probationary)
All leagues games to date will be considered a forfeit until dues are received.
Meanwhile, college teams take note, if I do not receive payment postmarked by 1/31/07, the same fate will fall onto you:
Women's Collegiate
CLAREMONT
OCCIDENTAL
UCSANTABARBARA
Men's Collegiate I:
ASU
UC SANTA BARBARA
UC SAN DIEGO
UNIVERSITY OF SAN DIEGO
Men's Collegiate II:
AZUSA PACIFIC
CAL STATE FULLERTON
MOUNT SA ANTONIO (probationary)
PEPPERDINE
POINT LOMA
UC IRVINE
UNLV
WESTMONT
Should you feel you have sent in dues already, please feel free to contact me with the information, and I will gladly investigate.
