Happy Holidays, and good luck with your upcoming seasons!
Just a friendly reminder to all of you who were not at the meeting...
There is a new on-line match reporting system at www.scrfu.org. Please have your match secretaries check this out, as it will be the method used to confirm teams are in good standing in order to qualify for nationals. Go to the list of clubs to find your on-line user ID, and the go to match reports to log into the system. If no one on your team has logged in yet, please not there is no initial password! Yes, that means anyone interested in signing in for your team can password protect that ID login if you haven't done it yet! So please get on line and check out the system.
If you are unfamiliar with the system, or need a quick info session, please do not hesitate to contact me. Also, please review your schedule and team rosters to make sure they are up to date. Any changes or questions can be pointed in my direction. Please note that the ref society has scheduled refs based on the schedule on this system. If you have rescheduled games please let me know as I will need to change them and update the refs.
One last note, in the interests of making sure match reports are received in an accurate and timely fashion, Paul Ganey is willing to receive the reports electronically. This means after having the ref sign the match report, you could scan and e-mail it and therefore retain the original for your records. No lost reports in the mail, and the scores are finalized that much quicker. So consider scanning your reports in this season!
Hoping that we can get up on the new system with 100% reporting this year, so I will try to check up on all of you in January to make sure you have loaded in your first few rosters. Please make sure your match secretaries are informed of their duties, and good luck with your fall seasons!

To all:
Bryn Chivers, the U19 GNT Coach has requested that the following be posted on the womens rugby group. I believe that there also is a another womens group out there - If so, could someone please post the following. Thanks.
As you may know the USA U19 WNT Program will be holding a one day camp
In Fullerton, CA on Sunday November 5th, 2006. The camp is open to all
high school, college and club players born on or after January 1st,
1987 although only players born on or after January 1st 1988 are
eligible to play for the USA U19 WNT in 2007.
SoCal U19 Griffins
On November 18/19 an Invitational U19 NASC is being held in Nashville,
TN, but unfortunately due to a lack of numbers the SoCal U19's
Griffins are not participating, I have the rosters for the programs
who are participating and college freshmen make up the backbone of
these teams. It is my belief that SoCal will need to adopt a similar
selection policy and this camp is the first opportunity to view the
players that will make the SoCal U19's competitive in 2007.
USA U19 WNT
2006 was a rebuilding year for the program with very few returning
players so we set out on an ambitious schedule of running camps in
every area of the country. We went to Nashville, Colorado Springs,
Olympia WA, Philadelphia, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Knoxville and will
end in Fullerton. Our goal was to provide players and coaches the
opportunity to attend a camp in their own backyard and not have to pay
to travel to a central location for a one off event. All of these
camps were incredibly well supported by the college teams in the
geographic area who all saw the benefit of having young players
involved in this accelerated learning opportunity. Of the twenty eight
players that we took to the U23NASC/Canada venue this summer only two
had not attended a camp and both were very well known to the program.
The IU19NASC is an important development in the selection process as
it will provide us with the opportunity to view players at a
representative level above that of their individual teams. We are
finalizing plans for an Elite Camp and games with Canada for early
January and the core of the selections for this event will come from
the IU19NASC. With the Griffins not attending this event the best
opportunity for the SoCal college players to secure an invite to the
Elite Camp will be to attend the camp at Fullerton. At this level we
value athletic ability over experience. If you have athletic freshmen
or sophomores who meet the age criteria please send them to the camp
on November 5th so that they can be considered for the USA U19 WNT in
2007.
I look forward to working with you in the development of the the SoCal
U19 Griffins and appreciate your support of the USA U19 WNT.

Please review the attached spreadsheet for the 2007 Women's Collegiate Schedule. You will notice that every team has a few "double header" weekends. Also, most teams have to play at least one game during their srping break weekends. Had a hard time avoiding that.
Also, note that I scheduled every team to play league teams twice and inter-league teams once. Please note, the interleague games do not play into division championships.
This schedule will become finalized as of October 4th, unless I hear about major conflicts before then.
Looking forward to 2007!

Subject: [TU-PRES] Seeding Recommendations Summary
Dear all,
Attached is a Word Document showing the 2007 Seeding recommendations
prepared by the USA Rugby Competitions Committee. There were a number of
votes taken throughout the seeding process, specifically on questions
involving reallocation of seeds. While there was rarely 100% agreement on
the final seeds and on the reallocation of seeds, the recommendations
represent a consensus of the committee members who voted on each issue.
A policy that evolved through this voting process was the reallocation of
seeds in 8-team brackets. In past years there have been several methods for
determining the 8th team in the bracket (assuming each of the 7 TU's get a
team into the bracket). In some divisions the 8th team was the #2 seed of
the home TU. In other divisions it was the #2 seed from the winning TU. By
vote of the committee, the #8 team in 8-team brackets goes to the #2 seed
from the winning TU. This applies to Men's Collegiate Div.II, Women's
Collegiate Div.II, and Men's Club Div.III.
In the Boy's HS Division it was originally planned to combine the two tiers
into a single 16-team bracket this year. With the Competitions Review about
to start, the committee voted to keep the brackets separate for this year
and let the CR decide what happens to them for the 2007-8 season.
There was also a proposal to split the HS Tiers on Multiple/Single schools
rather than on performance. Again, the committee voted to keep the tiers
split on performance and rely on the CR to sort out the structure for
2007-8.
Finally, when the HS bracket was originally split into two tiers, the
committee decided that no TU should have more than 3 teams in Tier A.
Promoting the winner of Tier B would have given Pacific Coast 4 teams in
Tier A. The committee voted to promote the #2 team from Tier A (W#2) to
replace #8 from Tier A (MW#3).

Registration Notice
Hello All --
Just a couple of quick notes regarding the USA Rugby registration website as we
enter the busy fall season and everyone gears up for fall competition:
1. HIGH WEBSITE TRAFFIC --
Web traffic on Friday, 9/8/06 was EXTREMELY high. Due to this, some
people had trouble registering at the precise moment they tried. Although
we will take every technological precaution against it, there is the potential
for this to happen again next Friday, so please encourage all clubs and
players to register as soon as possible, rather than wait until the last
minute on Friday afternoon. In addition, phone traffic on Fridays is
exceptionally high and it is difficult to handle all calls that come in,
although every attempt is made to do so. Please try to resolve any issues
earlier in the week if you want to ensure that it is completed in time for
Saturday competition.
2. CIPP ROSTERS -- The CIPP roster
lists available for public viewing (http://www.usarugby.org/membership/check.html)
are updated each night at midnight (not real-time), while real-time information
is available to club administrators about their club only.
3. TRANSFERS -- We are receiving a
large amount of transfers. All transfers received prior to Friday will be
processed by close of business Friday. Transfers received ON Friday
are likely to be processed, but this we cannot guarantee. Please get them
in as early as possible to guarantee they are completed in a timely
manner.
4. OUTSTANDING INVOICES -- Many
clubs and individuals have been contacted repeatedly due to having outstanding
payment for invoices created in the online registration system in 2006.
These clubs and players with outstanding invoices will not be able to
re-register the club online without contacting the USA Rugby membership
department to arrange for check or credit card payment.
5. HALF-YEAR/NEW MEMBERS -- As you
know, individuals who are brand new to USA Rugby are eligible for a discounted
registration if registering after July 1st. This is ONLY for those who
have never previously registered for USA Rugby. Individuals who register
as new members that actually have a previous registration record with USA Rugby
will be flagged as "Ineligible Half Year" on the CIPP roster, and
will be required to provide full payment before being eligible to play.
Thanks for your understanding and patience, and best of luck in all your
competitions!

Jason:
Could you add the Women's collegiate division to the agenda?
I appologize for being remiss in getting a schedule out to all to review. I must confess, it is a lot harder than I would have imagined, coordinating all of our schedules in just a few short weeks in 2007.
I have a very basic template to review on Sunday after the FGM. So far, I have heard that UofA and ASU will not be there (although I only have a proxy for UofA). Other than that, will we have full attendance? Please note, the one schedule I am most uncertain about is for Claremont. If you will not be at the meeting on Sunday, please send me your Winter / Spring schedule of classes, exams, and spring break ASAP.
Thank you, and hope to have a final schedule by the end of next week.
Marni Vath
p.s. - Please make sure you pass on your proxy, in writing, to someone if you will not be there. We were unable to vote on matters at the AGM due to lack of attendance, and SCRFU will need to start penalizing teams who do not show or send a proxy if that continues. I'm maxed out on proxies, but I'm sure there are plenty of people who can accomodate you if need be!
THANKS!!

Ladies and Gentlemen:
Per our conversation at the June meeting [technically it was
not an Annual General Meeting (AGM) as there was not a quorum], it was obvious
that the majority prefer Sunday meetings during the hectic schedule of summer
rugby and so you will notice the FGM has been changed to Sunday 9/10/06 –

There was some discussion about making the time later but
that is not going to fly!

We need a representative from every club at this meeting!!! Should you choose not to send a club member or Proxy,
the Executive Committee is going to be left with no choice but to discipline
each of the non-attending clubs – the clubs that decided not to show at
the last meeting have forced this upon the entire group. Voting can not take place without a
quorum and your clubs attendance is required for that quorum.
Congratulation is due to Jacqueline “Jax” Roper
for the time and effort she put in to an outstanding evening. It was a long
time coming and she took the bull by the horns to make it happen in a first

"...rugby is an intense approach to life. There are no pep rallies, no
cheerleaders; just a need to do something few attempt. These are the things
that make men to be reckoned with. Pass on the passion for life, not just to
upcoming ruggers, but to as many people as you can touch." Bill Mann

Per our conversation at the June meeting [technically it was
not an Annual General Meeting (AGM) as there was not a quorum], it was obvious
that the majority prefer Sunday meetings during the hectic schedule of summer
rugby and so you will notice the FGM has been changed to Sunday 9/10/06 –
same room as always.
There was some discussion about making the time later but
that is not going to fly!
So…
Sunday
9/10/06
8:30am
CSULB
I just moved from Los Angeles
to the middle of no where in San
DiegoCounty,
so if I can get there by 8:00am, you can get there by 8:30am. I’ll
make sure I down a 12 pack Saturday night just to make those of you who like to
moan and groan about the time feel a little better.
On a serious note, we need a representative from every club
at this meeting!!! Should you choose not to send a club member,
the Executive Committee is going to be left with no choice but to discipline each
of the non-attending clubs – the clubs that decided not to show at the
last meeting have forced this upon the entire group.
Voting can not take place without a quorum and your clubs attendance is
required for that quorum.
If you are one of those that have been busting my chops for not supplying
paper agendas at the meetings (see, I do listen!!!), here is your chance to
print it out before you leave the office and bring it with you - The agenda
is attached for tomorrow mornings meeting (8:30am). Considering the lack of
funds the SCRFU has, I tends to cut corners where I can.
I may add a few things over the course of the evening as I review for
tomorrow, so I'd suggest bringing along a pen as well.
I'd hate to show up at this thing tomorrow and get caught up on specific
details that do not involve the state of the Union, so let's do our best to
work most efficiently during this meeting and get us out in a timely
fashion!
JS
Is Everyone looking forward to 8:30am Saturday?

Folks of the SCRFU -
The AGM is being held on 6/24 - starting at 8:30am - out of there no later
than 11:30am.
The elections for all Board Members are to be held during/after the AGM.
During the meeting the positions of Secretary, Treasurer, Vice Prez and Prez
will be voted upon.
After the meeting the positions of NLAU Prez, VP, SLAU Prez, VP, Division
Reps, etc will be voted upon
I'd love to talk to anyone who is interested in any Executive Committee
position so that I can give you the lay of the land RE: details as to the
position responsibilities. This is not my way of "getting the scoop" on my
competition, but it is my way of giving "The Candidate" all the info to
decide if he/she really wants to participate.
Obviously the state of the union will take up the majority of the meeting,
but the elections are also pretty important issues.
The FGM is being held on 9/16.
Please mark your calendars for both events.
Venue - same as usual, Cal State Univ., Long Beach.
See attached - we meet in the PE building
Warmest regards,
Jason Scott

We can play games in AZ on either Saturdays or Sundays and if necessary, given sufficient notice, on Friday evenings under the lights.
Sat/Sun KO times should be no later than 11.00 ( subject to Ref. availability and scheduling)
Fri evening KO's 7.00
If you can get the schedule sorted asap it will be most helpful as field reservations here are at a premium- as you probably know we share our field with Men's Rugby, Men's and Women's Soccer, Men's and Women' s Lacrosse, Ultimate Frisbee and Co-Ed Field Hockey!!!!!( As well as being the parking lot for all ASU Athletic Dept. home games as required)
I've first coached at ASU in 1977- and it gets worse every season.
Just a reminder that the SCRFU AGM is scheduled for Saturday, June 24th at 8:30 am at CSULB. Please note, all teams need to have at least one representative there for voting purposes. This person can be a student, player, manager, coach, etc. Should no one from your team be able to make the trip (i.e. the Arizona teams), please make sure to e-mail me that you are giving your proxy to an appointed member of the rugby community who will be there. Want to make sure that the women are well represented.
Also wanted to remind everyone that this is the meeting when we will select the women's collegiate rep for the upcoming season. I am more than happy to step aside for any interested party, but I am also willing to take on the roll for another year. I am planning on remaining on as Treasurer for another year, and would love the extra voice for women's collegiate rugby on the board, if one of you is so inclined!
Also, if at all possible, please send your representative with general school schedules for 2006-2007, so we can get the scheduling process started. Let's get the schedules done nice and early so we are all set for the September meeting.
I know Paul already forwarded this on, but I just had to throw out $0.02:
$0.01 = Women's U-23 All-Star Championships: So Cal def. USA Rugby U-19s,
18-17 (Pool
B Champ)
and
$0.01 = Women's All-Star 15s Championships: So Cal def. South, 23-18 (Pool B
Consol)
and
an extra penny for good measure = GREAT WORK!!! Congrat's to both coaching
staffs and to both squads of women!
Jason Scott
SCRFU President
