Alex:
Thanks for the question. I did some research, and have the following responses:
Paul Ganey, SCRFU V-P: "In my opinion it isn't necessary to play interdivisional matches. Colleen can tell us for sure so I am Cc'ing her."
Colleen Chapin, USA Rugby:
"The Eligibility Guidelines have a two match qualifying requirement.
"To be eligible to participate on behalf of a club or team in a territorial union or competitive region playoff or championship, a player must have participated in at least two matches on behalf of that club in the competitive season leading to the playoffs. "
The Men's Division I Competitive Region requires that at least six different matches against at least three different Division I teams be played prior to the Round of 16.
Absent the above National level requirements, each LAU and TU is free to add additional requirements on their teams as they see fit."
Therefore, I believe we can rest assured that the Women's Collegiate Division I and Division II champs can proceed to nationals without playing an official game with the other divisional teams.
Please let me know if you have any futher questions, and I would be glad to help out!
Marni Vath
SCRFU Treasurer

Subject: RE: [scrfuwc] Digest Number 59
I have a quick question---Do DII Women's Collegiate sides have to play DI schools in order to qualify for Nationals? I am the President for the Claremont Colleges Women's Rugby team and our match secretary has yet to be contacted about this question either by phone or e-mail. We need to know whether or not we have to schedule matches against schools like ASU or UCLA in order to qualify for our National championship. So if any appointed SCRFU rep can get back to me on this it would be fantastic as our season has already begun.
Thanks!

Our Women's Collegiate Rep (Andreas Pyper - he is with UCSB and I haven't
heard from him in months!!!) has yet to send the schedule to Dan Beaulieu to
update the Match Report System, so you are exempt, until that is situated,
from doing it on-line. See attachment for hand written MR's that needs to
mailed to El Vee Pee.
You are correct about the "lumping" and I will do what I can to get everyone
within the SCRFU to start recognizing it as follows, please correct if I
have it wrong:
First Division is UCSD, ASU, UCSB, and UCLA.
Second Division is Claremont, UofA, and Oxy. SLO was confirmed as a
probationary team in the second division collegiate.

Jason

I send this slightly tongue in cheek, but from what I'm told by our match
sec. and I was also told by the match sec of UCSB on Saturday when we
played
them - which was also confirmed by their traveling coach, NEITHER team
was
able to print out a match report for our DivI Collegiate Women.
Plus, while on the subject of Women's Collegiate Rugby in SCAL and the
need
for all of us to do thing correctly, isn't it about time it was recognized
that there have been TWO divisions for at least two years yet we're all
lumped together in one list for rankings and scheduling, Section 5 if I
remember correctly- how can that be??
Just a couple of points.
