Some of those e-mail addresses are invalid. I'd have no problems with
moving up the deadline of bringing everybody on board. We might want to
leave the old list up longer than next week but follow up regularly
with messages that the old list is going away.

At the risk of makig this mini-list TOO AL-WORRALL oriented, I'll have to
ask: someone mentioned making a proposal regarding the trading of slots at
this year's draft? Mike K? Or who was it?

I think the files section could be used for the Excel docs we always seem to
have to make available on someone's web page. I'd also thought of putting
people's pictures there if they wish. I'll have to check into the size
limits. Never heard of any, but there must be SOME point they draw the line
at...

I used to find it annoying some time ago, but I learned to ignore it. Also,

You've thought of pretty much all the stuff I thought of, including the
pool. I suspect we'll end up under 300 for at least a month or two. I'll
get my brother to leave the other list active for a bit and then see if he
can set it to send back a message with re-sub instructions for another month
or so.
Have to remember to change the links on my baseball page and remind Brian
and the bartons to do the same.
Thanks for the comments,

Unfortunately, we can't trade protection slots in this league. I'm worried
about having Catalanotto for the 3rd year running (drafted him in 1998) and
not getting enough AB to make it worth it. Thankfully I had Velarde to
take over when it became obvious he wasn't going to work out.

I think you should give them a bit more time to get used to the switch.
I'd make it a full week at least. My only real complaint is the
advertisement. I do like the signup, and the chance to use the web to
check back messages I've accidentally deleted is great. As well, having a
file archive on the homepage makes it perfect for the FAQ, Ranking lists,
utilities, and you could even set it up to hold league results (updated by
each league individually) that people can explore. How much space is there
available on the server for each mailing list? You could easily set up a
mailing list for your own league.
I guess another complaint would be the Subject line always having
[scoresheet-talk] at the front. I already have my email filtered to the
proper boxes, so I don't need the identifier. It's something that should
be optional, but I bet it isn't.
The calendar feature should be used to list draft dates for leagues, IF the
leagues want to use the feature (hint hint Cal!). And birthdays, if people
want to rat out other list members.
The links feature would be the best place to list all the web pages that
the scoresheet-list keeps talking about (like Jay-Dell Mah's, the leagues,
Rotonews, etc.)
I think you'll lose some people because it's web based registration, I
think some of the non-participants to the list just won't bother to re-up,
and then there are the dead emails that haven't been cleared in a while.
We should set up an over/under wagering line on how many people will be
signed up by Feb 29 2000 at 11:59pm...

The only guy who I think is more than borderline protectable in a 12/3
is Burba. I probably would have kept him in front of Meche. Are you
planning to deal one of your young catchers?

I'd probably go with Catalanotto.

You've left some tempting morsels on the plate for the rest of the league:
Daubach, D. Ortiz, M.Valdez, Branyan, Burba, Nagy, Fussell, Werth.
But I think you got it right. You might want to dangle the excess 1B in

Okay, now that we've had a bit of time to play with the interface, does
anyone want to comment on using onelist for scoresheet-talk? As things stand
now, the plan is to announce the shift to onelist on Friday and keep the old
list server running until the middle of next week to give everyone a chance
to sign on. Wonder how many of the 331 current members we'll lose in the
crossover?
Anyone have any problems with anything? Comments?

NL stuff deleted as I don't follow minor leagues...
Not sure what you want us to comment on. It's a promising team, but man,
you need to get some pitching. Wish I had enough to offer you for
Garciaparra, but I probably don't. Somewhere down the line, you're going to
have to cash in some of that offence for some pitching.
I don't think I better reveal anyone else's draft lists in case they want to
change them before the cutoff date next Saturday.

I agree pretty much with Cal's analysis except I think you might be able to
get more than a midround pick (which I define as mid 20's) if your trading
partner really wants that #1 pick. Another person who asked me for
trading advice (not in Worrall, or even Canadian!) was talking about
a 16th and the 3rd pick overall to move up to the 1st.

Although there's a good crossover crop this year, there's no real standout
and the difference between 1st and 5th picks isn't that great. Actually,
they first five could go in nearly any order depending on the needs of the
team. I'd say that, if you were looking to deal, you try to swap first
round picks and pick up a prospect (or mid round draft choice perhaps?) of
some sort in the deal. That's assuming you don't really care which of the
first few available players you get.
If you don't care about the first roud at all and simply want to deal the
pick, then it gets more expensive. Figure out who the second player taken
COULD be and ask for an equivalency. For example, someone who really wants
Raul Mondesi (not my first choice, BTW) wouldn't be able to give you a
similar OF, but you could probably get someone nearly as good at a position
you want to fill plus that mid round draft choice.

Brian, you may think you're the Christopher Columbus of the Scoresheet list, but
up here -- North of the Frozen Tundra -- we've been on this list for years we
just didn't want any Americans to know. :)
Quick all you Canadians hide your livestock . . . oh, yeah . . . and your women,
too. THE AMERICANS ARE COMING! THE AMERICANS ARE COMING! ;)
(I think it would have sounded better in a thick French accent.)
Seriously, I like this list, too. Like you said we can find out about other
people on this list. I, for one, have been curious about a lot of people (where
they are from).
On to Scoresheet matters: I have second overall pick in a protect 12 AL draft
(as a matter of fact currently 66.7 per cent of this list are made up of its
members) and I was wondering what in terms of draft picks is it worth. I would
like to get at least two draft picks back.
Thanks,

I'm testing by sending a message to both lists at the same time
The 3rd annual Murphy (24 team, Both leagues, live draft) draft is now history.
This is Murphy's 4th year but only 3rd live draft. Probably all of the
other owners on the list woke up today thinking: I drafted WHO? We took
a little more time than last year, starting about 11 AM and finishing up
about 7:20.
Here's what Reede & I ended up with. We started with eight protectees
(Murphy has no rookie slots)
P: Brown, Lima, Park, Alvarez, Villone, J. Thompson, Ohka, W. Miller, Tejara,
Meyers
SR: Mantei, Christiansen, M. Jackson, Silva, Harville, Aguillera, Beck, Ayala
C: Fletcher, Miller
1B: Casey, Klesko
2B: Kent, R. Martinez
3B: Rolen
SS: J Hernandez, Cabrera, A. Arias, W. Delgado
OF: Vlad, Sheffield, Higginson, Trammell, Encarnacion, Winn, Kelly
We like our offense (including the 3 platoons). As to defense, we like
our offense. If Thompson holds back, our rotation looks solid.
Comments welcomed. When I have the complete draft reslults, I will post
them and inform the list.
Brian
