Actually I was looking at it that way, see my other post for looking at it from
"your" side.

Again, Richard you are looking at it just from the perspective of you owning
Utley and Ramirez. What if you were on the other side of trade talk and had my
team and were exploring ideas to trade for them? That changes the dynamics
don'tcha think?
Its all a moot point about trade talk and just for discussion anyway as nobody
has heard from owner of those guys since second week of season. That team with
Utley and Ramirez (now 18-27 so far this year) won over 100 games last year as
well, one game less than mine I recall.
I dont approach other league owners whining about what I need. I will tell them
I am looking for postion wise and make a specific offer. Of course they don't
care what my needs or goals are, why should they? Everyone looks out for their
own team's best interest, although I do try to look at what I perceive as the
otehr guy's team weakness and make offers accordingly. Nor do I approach anyone
about a trade and tell them "hey I got lucky last year and won 100 games and am
looking to improve my team at your expense. Lets deal"....... .C'mon.
Stronger teams with depth can sometime make deals with lower tier teams in other
divisions that benefit both teams. Some owners, not all, do take your position
that they will only make trades with someone if it weakens the other guy's team.
I look at trades from a relative strength position, If I give up something that
improves the other guy's team more than mine, but I still improve my team with
the trade, I will pull the trigger. But I'm coming from the returning league
winner perspective where I sometimes have the luxury of being able to offer more
becasue of depth. After being decimated my injuries and league crossovers in my
very competitive AL league last year, the shoe is on the other foot, and the
trading tactics are different. But normlly league leader owners are smart
(sometimes lucky) and arent quick to trade their great players. Why rock the
boat when their winning strategy sppears to be working? Thats when you pull out
the voodoo dolls to
bring on DL stints for key players to owners running away with the league.
There must be more than one owner in AL league employing the voodoo doll
strategy in that our league leader, who was running away, has now been hit with
two or three DL stints to key players at the same time.

I look at deals like this my goal is if I'm going to improve your team at
postions then I'm going to weaken you at others, not overall strenthen your
team.

guys. And it would not be your 14, 15 16 keepers, but the heart of what you
have. Lincecum, Beltran, braun do that, they take out some of your heart.

for him needs to start linceum, peavy, webb type and go from there, or it will
be a short talk.

how bout putting yourself in position of the offering owner and suggest what YOU
would be willing to give up to make it worthwhile. The Lincecum, Hamels, Kazmir,
J Johnson, Oswalt, Kazmir, Howard, Uggla,Braun, Beltran, Dunn team won 100+
games last year and really doesn't need them to win bit Im always open to trades
to improve team. Gutting a team for two players certainly does not improve
chances to win league again.
