I’ve had a request to start the Paint Rock Valley ride a bit
later on Saturday Morning to allow for some warming and more time for coffee
drinking.
The official launch time is 8:30 AM from Madison County High
School.
Paint Rock Valley Ride – 74 miles with stops at
24 and 50 miles. 8:00am, Madison County High School. One of the most scenic
rides in Alabama and my personal favorite. Travels Curly Putman Highway (AL
65), official Alabama Scenic Byway.
Rolling Pace: 17-19/20. No major hills.
The map be downloaded from the Rides Database under Putman Mtn/Paint Rock
River Scenic Ride.Route Markings (forks) from
the SCCC Century may still be visible.
Unfortunately a driver died in last month's hill climb race.
It's a good climb, much more tame than Goshen Hollow but
with many switchbacks.

They have the Crow Mountain hill climb car race in that same
area but using CR 33 instead of the Goshen Hollow climb.

From their web site they seemed to have had a good organization
for this event.
It would be a cool place for a good hill-climb TT event, perhaps.
I mean for cyclists.

Email if you'd like to join me. I've never climbed Goshen Hollow, I believe it has the steepest average grade in the area, around 15% over 1.1 miles. I need someone to lead me out at the base so I can sprint up... :o)

It was kind of fun last week
bombing the streets with a few riders. It would be more fun with a few
more riders.
The Wednesday Night Ride is back at 5:30 PM.
The route will be a shorter in-town route than in the
summer… +/- 16 miles. Pace will be spiffy in places.
Lights are mandatory….
Wednesday Night Urban Assault – 5:30pm,
15-17 miles at a "spiffy" pace. Starts at Bicycles Etc., 611A
Meridian Street. Ride Contact: Morgan Andriulli, 536-7190, morganandriulli@...Lights Required
It was just Jamie, Tim from Germany and me doing the first
Cathedral Caverns Babe Wright Road Terminal Velocity Challenge. I clocked
the official top speed of 55.6 mph, bringing home the trophy. I will
remain caretaker of the award until the next Terminal Velocity Challenge or
until shown verifiable data of a higher speed on GPS device or calibrated
speedometer. At that time, the prized trophy will be handed to the next
faster projectile, not unlike the Stanley Cup or Borg-Warner Trophy.
It should be noted that Jamie was definitely faster down the
hill as the gap opened up between us, but she was not using a speedometer and
therefore was unofficial.
This month’s meeting is Moving back to Beauregard’s on
Airport Road. The program is Patrick Lamb’s recounting of his
summer vacation trip with his recently graduated daughter from Virginia to
Washington. Very interesting.
Meeting begins at 7 PM. Arrive between 6 and 6:30 if you
intend to have dinner.
Monthly Meeting, November 9. Location:
Beauregard’s, 975 Airport Road, S.W. Time: 7:00pm (6-6:30 if you plan to eat). Program: Dad and Grad
Transcontinental Ride. Patrick Lamb recounts the trip he took
with his daughter, Virginia, after her college graduation in May. They rode
from Virginia (the State) to Anacortes, Washington. It was an epic test of
Father-Daughter relations and well documented at http://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/LambTransAm.
Maybe you'll at least get a discount for being a repeat customer. You'll get to use that hammock some more too.

Another shoulder surgery (this time, left one) next Tuesday, so I will be off the bike for a while. Hopefully not 5 months like this year.
I would like to join you from the Gazebo, just so I'm on the same page it's where Madison Cycles is right? Also, how much mileage does that add to the ride? I may be riding on my tri-bike I usually ride my road bike but not sure if it's ridable right now:O) Hope that is ok, looking forward to the ride.
