Weber Manning won at Memphis, from last starting
position on the grid. After having carb trouble on
Saturday, Weber switched carbs and was back in flying form.
He ran in the 1:19s. Peter Zekert (1:21) finished
second followed closely by Brad Lewis (1:22) and then
Jim Wessel. Although Lewis was out motored by Manning
and Zekert, he gave the most respectable driving
clinic, catching both Zekert and Manning in turns 1 and
in Grant's Tomb corners. Give equal horsepower, it
is no doubt that Brad Lewis would have won.
I have a stock pan and I think Randy may still
have the Accusump he used before going to dry-sump. I
can also have a pan set up for a three stage dry-sump
pump. If any will help, just let me know. I can ship
them out right away. Can't help much with the weather,
fortunately we haven't had much snow here.

The Mini
broke on Saturday morning---no oil pressure. I didn't
talk to him to find out his future plans, but from
what I overheard he seems to be a Porsche fan. We also
had two Bugeyes and a GT4 Nissan. The GT4 driver
plans on running Vintage, but Warren Montague and I
tried to convince his father that he should at least
try Regionals instead. He has alot of natural talent
and maturity, especially for a 17 year old!
Hi Chris,

Thanks for the offer on the loan
of equipment, we appreciate it. But it is the oil
pans that are holding us up. If they aren't here by
next week I'll have to come up with plan B. I think
Jeff Werth used stock pans and an accusump and got
away with it. (Jeff if you read this let me know if
I'm right.) But I hope to have the pans soon.

I'm also finding it hard to get my ass in gear
and work on the car. This seems like the longest
winter we ever had, but the snow is starting to melt and
we're finally getting started. We plan on testing at
Lime Rock on the 10th and maybe running a regional at
NHIS a couple of weeks before the national.

I agree, its great that Al is "back on track" he is
looking forward to getting behind the wheel of Hal's car
after spending all those years chasing it in the Honda.
BTW I heard there was a Mini at the Summit school. Is
he a new guy? Good luck at Summit, I hope GT5 has a
good turnout.

Bob
Rod change gearboxes were used in Minis from 1973
to 2000. The gears themselves are basicaly the same
but the case, shift forks, diff housing and in later
versions idler gear bearing and lay shaft are different.
It's a much better shift mechanism with fewer parts.
It also requires extra engine steady
bars.

Joe
"rod change" means 2 rods extend from the back
of
the box to contol shifting."remote" means an
aluminium extension about 2 feet long extends from the back
the gearbox.if you need more info, email me direct

Can any of you Mini type people out ther tell me
what the difference is between a "rod change" and a
"remote shifter" gearbox? Also, assuming that the box
itself is the same in both cases, are we just talking
acout the mechanism from the shift lever to the
gearbox? Appreciate any input!!! Oren goble
GO WITH THE LIGHTEST SPRING YOU CAN!WITHOUT TIRES HITTING THE BODY,YOU WANT THE
CAR TO TRANSFER THE WEIGHT,I WOULD GO WITH 1500,1800,TO START,DON'T FORGET ABOUT
REBOUND!mike
I am after a fiberglass body for a alfa 1750 GTV. I have been unable to find
one. If you can help please leave a message or email
me

ethnicracing@...
Thanks
Zedman
Can some of you fine Nissan type drivers give me a clue on what front and rear
spring rates to start with.Have a spring shop so a good ball park figure will
help.
Chris,

Not sure what time I'm going to
arrive on Friday. If you could save a place that would
be OK, but don't get yourself in trouble. Where do
you usually setup?
Vince.
Bob and Andre,

I don't plan on New
Hampshire, but I sure would like to see you guys at Summit
if it can be arranged.

Anything I can
loan/send you? I now have some spares. If all goes well on
the dyno this weekend, I'll have the A12A available
as a spare. I can meet you somewhere for delivery if
needed. It's a dry sump, but you can modify it back to
non-dry if you want to.

Glad Al is back on track,
so to speak, and I'm hoping John can make it as
well. Looks like Vince will be there, hopefully some of
the Minis can come south too. It may be cold, but
there isn't any snow (just got back from the Driver's
School).

Chris
Hi Chris,

Sorry to say that it looks like
we are going to miss Summit this year. I'm waiting
on parts to get the Sentra back together and with
this never ending winter its hard to stay at the shop
and work on the car. I'm sure we'll be ready for New
Hampshire, are you planning on making that trip?

We
might make a showing at summit as spectators, Al
Perroti is buying Hal Snyders 210 and it should be ready
about that time.

Good Luck at the race, we
expect a full report. Let us know how John Knox makes
out with his new car.

Bob

Hey !

I didn't know that guys from Calgary
were so sensitive about being ignored. (just
kidding)
GT-5 cars use slicks from Goodyear or Hoosier.
The
best guys to contact would be the Canadian Formula
Ford Championship guys. They have been using Hankook
tires for years.
Norm/Montreal
Hi Barry,

Let us know whats going on. Then
we all don't have to call Ron. If true, be sure to
find out who we should thank (besides Ron) and how to
get in touch with that person.

Thanks, Bob
I find it ironic that Nissan is pulling their
support. It may be a long shot, but the cause can probably
be traced to the recent Renault partnership. I work
@ Honda dealer & one of my co-workers is Japanese.
He is constantly following the Japanese news via the
'net. Renault has had a dramatic effect on Nissan in
Japan. In 2000 Nissan Japan has shown record profits.
This can only be attributed to is the fact that (under
the new Renault regime) 5 major Nissan factories have
been shut down permanently. Hundreds of small parts
manufacturing companys have also been wiped out. Nissan workers
families that have been with the company for generations
are now out of work.
Nissan bean counters
worldwide, are under the gun. Nismo is an easy target for
cost cutting. If they can abandon people who have
worked for them for generations, why not a motorsports
program that has been around for generations.
The
irony that I see is that Renault, who prides itself in
promoting its' product through motor racing, may indirectly
force Nissan to pull the plug on something that Renault
has embraced over the years when their name is on the
product.
