MINI COOPER to be featured by SVRA at the Zippo Vintage
Grand Prix at Watkins Glen on September 5-8, 2002. The focal
point of this event will be the MINI CLASH, a special race for Mini
racecars & Mini powered specials.
For the first time all Mini Cooper models and their variations will
be eligible to participate at the premier vintage racing event in the
east. These will include everything from the 850 Mini,
970,1071,1275cc Cooper-S, 998 Cooper, and all of the BMC Mini
variants such as Riley Elf, Wolseley Hornet, MG 1100/1300 Sport
Sedan, etc., prepared to pre-1972 vintage specifications. There
will also be a selection of historic Minis from the post 1972
period. Minis have continued to be highly successful racing in
the very developmental SCCA GT5 category. Several of the new
Mini Coopers have been race prepared and they will also
compete. Over the years, the Mini power unit has been installed
in a vast array of racing specials such as the Unipower GT, Mini
Marcos and Landar. Some of these will be attending to fill out the
field.
Atlanta, GA; March 19, 2002: SVRA announced today what the
conditions of participation will be for Mini entrants who have not
previously participated in recognized vintage events. These
conditions are consistent with the exceptions made whenever a
particular marque is featured at an event.
· Cars should be configured as a recognizable version of the Mini
as a racecar.
· Cars prepared to post-1972 specifications should have
participated in a recognized non-vintage racing series such as
the SCCA National Ruff-Offs or a European Mini series.
· SVRA extends a special invitation to SCCA Club Racing drivers
and cars.
· SCCA Club Racing Licenses will be honored on a
case-by-case basis.
· There will be car club activities for Mini street car owners at the
downtown festival.
· All racecars are invited to participate in the downtown festival
activities, which highlight a racecar tour of the original street
circuit.
· All cars entered are eligible for the Mike Stott/Paine Webber
Enduro Sunday morning.
· Mini entrants will receive the SVRA member rate for entry fees.
