Don, As far as we know the Comp board has NO intention of outlawing
tub cars in GT5. In fact, our members just made the Comp board change
it's ruling on grandfathered tube cars. The GT5 class wants to be
inclusive, not exclusive.
On the subject of Toyotas, I believe they can be Nationally
competitive. I see their major problem now is a lack of parts. After
venting a few engines this year, Roy Lopshire is hunting high and low
for blocks, cranks and cams. There were so few core engines for that
car.
I suggest to any new member to start with a Nissan because the
parts are the most abundant and there are so many people developing
racing parts. You can aways find Nissan parts to buy, trade or
borrow. Because of supply and demand, they are usually cheaper.
Since I've always raced on a budget, I could not consider racing
an Alfa or a Toyota, where you are almost alone in your development
of race engine parts.
If you want a Starlet, Dave Hunstead's car would be the place to
start. That car is a top 10 finisher at the Runoffs. It could
possibly win with Paul Tracy at the wheel. Peter
