My fav headlamps:
Petzl Tikka "Plus" for general, lightweight, gettin' around use. 3-light
levels, plus blink. 3 AAA batteries. We use this for hanging around camp,
casual night hikes, predawn neighborhood runs, and in the car's glovebox.
Black Diamond "Icon" for super beefy, ultra-bright, find-your-way-offtrail
on moonless nights. 3 'AA' batteries in a separate pack on back of the
head, optional rechargeable pack, which I don't use. Definitely a heavier
deal, and I wouldn't want to run long distances with one. Totally
unnoticeable when mounted to a helmet, however. I use it for retreating
off multi-pitch climbs after dark. The "spotlight" mode is beyond rude,
practically dangerous, to point at other people - it lights up rappel
bolts from a couple hundred feet above.
