I was wondering who's up for organizing the return of the SCARAB
Torrey Pines run. I would like to get a regular trail run going
either Tuesday or Thursday, preferably between 11 and 1, but I'd be
happy with morning (~8:00am) or evening (~5:30pm) as well.

Has anyone tried replacing the Nite Rider battery with a lithium (or other)
battery pack to save weight and/or increase burn time?
Let me know how it worked.

For Immediate Release
Cal-Eco Adventure Race #1 – Lake San Antonio, Ca
April 17-18, 2004
www.csmevents.com

At 06:05AM on Saturday, April 17th California Sports Marketing, Inc.
sent 28 teams and 97 competitors out on the chilly waters of Lake San
Antonio in Monterey County, California to launch the 6th season of the
Cal-Eco 24 Hour Adventure Race Series under the direction of Jason
Orbaugh, the new race director.

Following a quick and highly competitive 3 mile paddle, the top 5 teams,
lead by Team Timex, raced out of the water and into TA #1, before
embarking on the 8 mile orienteering & trekking leg, which was
interrupted by a ½ mile PFD swim across the lake.

With the top teams still battling for first place, Team Silly Rabbits
gained a 4 minute lead coming into the second transition before heading
out on a 12 mile ride & tie, in which teams of four have two bikes and
two members on foot. The ride & tie course took competitors on a
beautiful stretch of rolling single track through the hills of the Lake
San Antonio North Shore.

With the heart-pounding pace of the ride & tie behind them, and Team
Timex having regained the lead with Team Wellsport closely behind, the
racers started out on the 35+ mile, leg burning mountain biking course
that took them back to the South shore of Lake San Antonio where their
boats were once again awaiting them.

First off the bikes, Team Timex with a sizable 37 minute lead on Team
Cranksports.com/Nemesis, quickly plotted coordinates for the final 6
mile paddling leg and raced off ahead of night fall and into the face of
a strengthening headwind.

With an official finishing time of 11 hours 52 minutes, Team Timex
(Phillip Lovalenti, Windy Spillane, David Marks, & Rick Baraff) captured
the first victory of the 2004 season and is well on their way to a slice
of the $20,000.00 Cash Prize Purse.

We hope to see you in Fort Bragg, CA for the Cal-Eco #2 on May 15th.

additional information.
