I was in this Dallas yahoo group up until today and well last night
when we beat them I wanted to go in and just say GO BLAZERS.
Apparently my ability to post had been taken away for the following
reason

"Your Dallas Mavericks Don't Worry...
I made it where Blazerfan Paul couldn't post months ago just for
a
situation like last night's.(Apparently the Blazers beating them) I
still can't believe that the Blazers as
well as the Hawks beat us.

MavsRandy"

I removed your right to post months ago knowing a situation like this
would arise (Blazers beating Mavs). Nothing personal, just didn't
want someone putting more salt in people's open wounds. In case you
didn't realize, we were up 2-0 in the finals and lost then the next
year won 67 games and got knocked out of the first round by Nellie
and Golden State while Dirk was named MVP. I was protecting the Mavs
fanship that still resides in the group.

Does anyone know why the Spurs were never able to sign Scola to a
contract? I always thought he would wind up here.

Former Spurs draft pick Scola signs with Rockets

By KRISTIE RIEKEN, AP Sports Writer
July 17, 2007

HOUSTON (AP) -- Five years after being drafted, Luis Scola has
finally signed an NBA contract.

Scola, chosen by San Antonio in the 2002 draft but never played for
the Spurs, was introduced as the newest member of the Houston Rockets
on Tuesday.

The Spurs held his rights since 2002 while he continued to play for
Tau Ceramica of the Euroleague. The Rockets obtained the rights to
the Argentinian forward and acquired Jackie Butler for Vassilis
Spanoulis in a trade last week with the Spurs. Houston also gave up a
second-round pick in the 2009 draft.

"Luis fills a position of need," Rockets general manager Daryl Morey
said. "We thought he was the best guy out there and we worked really
hard to get him here."

The 6-foot-9, 245-pound Scola helped the Argentinian National Team to
an Olympic gold medal in 2004 and was chosen as the Spanish League
regular season MVP in 2005 and 2006.

New coach Rick Adelman thinks Scola will help in the continued
development of center Yao Ming.

"I looked at a lot of tape on Luis and how he plays and I think he's
going to be a great attribute to Yao," Adelman said. "He's very
active."

Adelman thinks Scola's style of play will fit nicely into his system.

"In the offense that we like to run, we like to have a lot of
activity on the floor to make it easier for your better players to be
effective," Adelman said. "I think he can do that as far as cutting
to the basket or passing the ball. I think it's going to be easy for
him. I think he's going to fit right in there."

Scola, 27, said he's excited to play with Yao and All Star Tracy
McGrady and that they're the first thing he thought of when he
learned he'd be playing for the Rockets.

"It's great to be with them," he said. "I'm sure they're going to
help me much more than I'm going to help them."

He averaged 15.5 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.2 assists last season for
Tau Ceramica to earn All-Euroleague first-team honors.

Scola believes the extra time he spent in the Euroleague will help in
his transition to the NBA.

"I grew up not only as a player but as a person," he said. "I want to
take this challenge to see if I can succeed."

Adelman said it was too soon to say if the Rockets will expect Scola
to start immediately, but he and Morey agreed that Scola will
contribute quickly.

"I think he can step in and be an effective player for us right
away," Adelman said.

Though Scola has signed with the Rockets, his contract will not be
effective until they complete the buyout of his deal with Tau
Ceramica.

Joe and Sylvia,

You should really send your artwork into the Spurs organization and
let them take a look at it. You never know what doors that might
open.

I am so proud of the Spurs! They did an amazing job throughout the
whole season and really played hard in the playoffs. I knew that they
would win the championship, even though all the haters kept trying to
tell me otherwise. I always believed in them.

They deserve the championship and they earned it! Congratualtions to
the Spurs and to Tony Parker for winning MVP.

GO SPURS GO!!!

Hello everyone.
My daughter will be going to Ireland with her school in March as part of an Educational tour
from EFTours. Because we are a one income family with 4 children.. it will be hard for us to
come up with the funds..

sooooooooo my husband decided to draw a mural of the San
Antonio Spurs with Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili and Tim Duncan. We are selling raffle tickets
for $10 a chance for this mural. It's 4 feet by 8 feet and made from acrylics. Email me for
pictures

So far the chances for winning this mural is good.. since we've only sold 10 tickets.

If anyone is
interested in purchasing tickets, or just helping with a donation. Please email me at

Thank you,
Sylvia

Spurs an unappreciated, forgotten dynasty

San Antonio not flashy in winning 4th title, but ‘just get the job
done’

The Associated Press
Updated: 5:43 p.m. CT June 15, 2007

CLEVELAND - Exiting the arena with the NBA finals MVP trophy in one arm
and his actress fiancee on the other, Tony Parker looked like someone
who should be a megastar in America.

But Parker plays for the San Antonio Spurs, a champion everywhere but
in the TV ratings. The Spurs were too good for Cleveland, but still
considered too boring to be appreciated.

They are the NBA’s forgotten dynasty.

“It’s all about getting the job done, it’s not how you get the job
done,” said Robert Horry, who won his seventh championship. “You don’t
need to be flashy, just get the job done.”

Few teams have done that better than the Spurs, who by sweeping the
Cavaliers for a fourth title since 1999 have forced themselves into the
dynasty discussion. But the other teams in that category, the Celtics,
Lakers, and Bulls, were all either loved or hated.

Fans don’t seem to love or hate the Spurs. They mostly ignore them.

The finals drew a record-low 6.2 television rating and 11 share on ABC,
Nielsen Media Research said Friday. That was down 27 percent from the
8.5/15 for Miami’s six-game victory over Dallas last year and 5 percent
under the previous low, a 6.5/12 for San Antonio’s six-game win over
New Jersey in 2003. The NBA finals averaged 9.3 million viewers this
year.

NBA fans love their one-name stars: LeBron, Kobe, Shaq. The only
one-namer San Antonio has is Manu Ginobili — and he doesn’t even start.

“We don’t do a lot of the flashy things. The only flashy guy we got is
Manu,” Horry said. “Everybody else is just basic, but sometimes basic
stuff gets the job done. We are a good team and that’s the most
important thing.”

The NBA’s bland boys are ready to show their wild side. They get their
championship parade along the Riverwalk this weekend, followed next
month by Parker’s wedding to “Desperate Housewives” star Eva Longoria
in France.

“I’m going to party all the way until the end of Tony Parker’s
wedding,” said Michael Finley, a first-time champion. “And then I might
relax a little bit.”

Once it’s time to get back to basketball, count on the Spurs being a
title threat. As long as they have Tim Duncan and Gregg Popovich, they
always are.

“It starts with Pop, the fact that he never let us get comfortable,”
Parker said. “He’s always behind us, always like ’Come on, focus,
focus’ and I think it carries on. Every day in practice you just get
that mentality.

“And then Timmy is the same way. He comes to practice and practices
hard every day. When your superstar practices like that, you have to
practice hard.”

Knocked out in the second round last year, Popovich expected the Spurs
to come back hungrier and defend harder. Instead, he was surprised to
see a team that had forgotten its principles while getting left in the
dust by Dallas and Phoenix.

Even Popovich started to wonder if the Spurs’ time had passed.

“The thought went through my head,” he said. “Are they sick of
listening to me? Are they tired of hearing it? Have we run the gamut of
every motivational thing or emotional button we can push? I thought
about it because I didn’t think they were listening.”

Instead of trying to jump-start the team with a midseason move,
Popovich made it clear that the players would have to figure things out
themselves without any outside help.

“You guys are going down or you’re getting it done together, but there
will be no trades here,” Popovich said. “I think it helped us turn the
corner.”

Actually, San Antonio did that long ago. In the early and mid-1990s,
the Spurs were always just good enough to lose to Houston, or Utah, or
some other Western Conference power. Then Popovich took over as coach
during the 1996-97 season, and a few months later San Antonio won the
draft lottery and the right to select Duncan.

The Spurs were first-time champions two years later and added titles in
2003 and ’05. This was their first finals sweep, so they may be getting
even better.

“It takes such a long process to build up champions and now we have a
championship mentality,” former San Antonio star David Robinson said.
“We have a great organization, the management, bringing in phenomenal
guys to fill in all the roles ... and our leaders are just phenomenal.”

Still, winning games still doesn’t mean winning fans for the Spurs.
High-scoring teams such as Phoenix and Golden State are the ones fans
want to see. Once they were knocked out, casual viewers stopped tuning
in.

But while those teams look more fun, the Spurs’ model is the one to
follow for the best shot at a title.

That’s what Cleveland did, bringing in coach Mike Brown and general
manager Danny Ferry from San Antonio and ending up in the finals for
the first time. Seattle could be headed in the same direction, hiring
Sam Presti away from the Spurs to be its new GM and perhaps considering
Popovich’s assistant, P.J. Carlesimo, to be its new coach.

The Cavs quickly learned that there’s a large gap between being like
the Spurs and being the Spurs.

“We went up against a better team,” LeBron James said after struggling
throughout his first finals appearance. “We know the Spurs are
definitely the better team in this series.”

Popovich refuses to take credit, even while becoming only the fifth NBA
coach with four or more titles. Keeping the Spurs on top won’t be easy.
The West is so tough that San Antonio was only the No. 3 seed, and
could be even stronger next season with college stars Greg Oden and
Kevin Durant likely headed to Portland and Seattle.

But the Spurs’ way has worked since Duncan arrived, so the Spurs will
always have a shot.

“I think that longevity is attributed to Timmy and the other guys we’ve
tried to bring in who have a certain character,” Popovich said, “a
character that’s made up of just people who have gotten over
themselves, people who care about the team more than an individual. And
I think it shows in a lot of ways.”

Just not in the ratings.

I am taking the Spurs advice when it comes to dynasty talk. Let history judge what the Spurs have done. When it's all said and done, the Spurs will be viewed as one of the greatest dynasties/Franchises in the NBA. And they are not done. I feel very strongly that they will repeat and will win at least two more. Who in the hell is going to beat them? Dallas? Phoenix? Surely not an Eastern team. It's only going to get better.
GO SPURS!!!!

Others can say whatever they please. These Spurs ARE a dynasty. They know
it and we know it and that is the only thing that matters.

I think the number of championships alone proves that San Antonio is
among the elite and can't be denied the title of "dynasty." I still
want them to win one more though, preferrably next year so that there
won't be any question as to their legacy and even then all the haters
will have to recognize them and their place in history as a team that
has won 5 championships in a ten year span. The Spurs have been
playing really good ball with the exception of some offensive
struggles in games 3 and 4 of the finals. Either way, they have
earned the right to hold their heads up high as the reigning champs
of 2007!!!!!

Well, people are saying that the Spurs aren't a dynasty. You want to
read the article, go to this website:

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/writers/jack_mccallum/06/15/spur
s.place/index.html?eref=si_topstories

He does make a couple of good points in the article, like no repeat
championships for the Spurs - dynasty ?? Read it.

The Spurs did it! A sweep! This has been one of the hardest if not
the hardest path getting to the finals for the spurs. 4
championships! can't wait for # 5...lol

Congrats to Tony for winning MVP!! Tony has been amazing the entire
playoffs, as has Tim. I am so happy for all of the guys, especially
Finley...he made the right choice by coming to SA!

Spurs arrive in SA at 1 pm today, it will be on TV if you can't make
it, and the Parade will be Sunday, followed by the alamodome
celebration!

2007 NBA CHAMPIONS!!!! 4 x CHAMPIONS. GO SPURS!

I skipped work just to watch today's game, because I knew this was gonna be the one. I was glad I did, to be a firsthand witness to the emergence of class and excellence over flash and hype, to the emergence of (let's all say it now..) a Dynasty. Spurs Rock!!
