Spurs fans,

Just wanted to know if you still want the Big Dog part of the
Spurs "soon to be a dynasty" team. With Devin Brown out and the
recent signing of Sean Marks, that leaves only one or two spots on
the roster vacant (as I really do not see RC Buford intent on
signing his newly drafted French forward playing this season)

The Spurs are certainly going over the salary cap this season but it
certainly not an issue as the Spurs had been paying its roster cheap
and getting high dividends (three rings in the past six years and a
postseason appearance every year)

That means the Big Dog cant be signed for a salary increase (he made
10+ million last year despite being waived by the sixers). I think
a veteran million is sufficient.

The Big Dog found his niche with the Spurs. He started to play some
D and started sharing the ball Spurs style. I would hate to see him
go. He doesnt need big minutes just like NVE, Finley and Horry. He
will save some fresh hops during playoff time Horry-style.

With 242 minutes of playing time for one game for five players, it
would be predictive of Pop to play his starting five 8 minutes per
quarter (total of 160 minutes). The reserves Horry, Van Exel, Fin
Dog, Barry and Rasho would be getting 4 minutes per quarter on the
average (80 minutes total).

Udrih will be getting much reduced playing time after spelling out
Tony for muc of the point guard chores. I also don't see Rasho or
Barry being happy with their reduced roles.

Thus, the presence of the Big Dog might be a redunduncy. He still
has one of the best mid range games in the league and has proven
that he can defend. The small forward spot belongs to Bowen who can
shoot when necessary and there are Fin Dog, Brent and possibly Manu
who can fill the 3 spot.

I would hate to see the Big Dog leave. Hope he signs for the
minimum. Its not like his family is going to starve or anything.
He made a lot of dough with his last big contract.
