Hello Everyone --
Providentially, and with a touch of the bizarre, I ran into Al, Kate and
their lovely family during a layover in Heathrow last week, and for
better (or worse...) I found my thoughts turning toward Santa Cruz just
a little. I wanted to say hi and send people good thoughts in the New
Year. I hope things are going well in the SC, and that fencing is fun.
My dissertation research is going swimmingly. It is of course a lot of
work, but a different kind -- which gets me out of my desk chair and out
into the world. I am studying the asylum procedure in Greece, and the
stories I hear are a bit harrowing sometimes. But I am meeting people
from all over the world, and my own little world has exploded - in a
good way. I have a field blog if you are curious: heathcabot.blogspot.com
I am also training with the national team here, and even though I am not
getting many lessons, the bouting is fabulous, and completely free. They
have a couple of women who have been in the top 24 in the world, and the
others are nice, clean bouts. So maybe I will even get better here! I am
thinking that I will probably be here for closer to two years, so I may
not see any of you for awhile. But we will see. Until then, if you are
thinking of a Mediterranean holiday, please drop me a line.
Best,
Heath Cabot
