Hi,
I've started up a separate Yahoo group for Northern California women fencers of
all ages. The primary function of this group is to set up informal
training/competitive events for women fencers in the Bay Area.
The model for this group would be the men's epee training sessions that were set
up by Eric Hansen over the past two years, as well as the Cardinal pre-Nationals
tournament. If you're unfamiliar with the model, it's a competitive format where
everyone fences everyone else in 5-touch bouts. Bouts are self-directed, and
competitors log their own victories and defeats. At the end of the night, the
victor is the person with the most victories/indicators - you'll be fencing for
bragging rights (and maybe chocolate if someone brings some).
A lot of women would like to fence other women outside of the Bay Cup tournament
circuit. So this is our attempt. It would be for both foil and epee, and Valerie
at EMFC is willing to host. We are suggesting Friday nights for these events,
probably monthly. The floor fee would be $10, and we'd start at 7 PM.
I'd like to invite you to join the group, and also to let me know whether you
can attend the first event. I'm not going to discriminate - if you're male, you
can join the group, but you don't get to fence at the tournaments. Of course,
you're welcome to come to the tournaments and carry our fencing bags, wipe the
glow off our brows, and cater to our every whim :-) Please forward this email to
any women fencers that you think would be interested.

BTW, if we hear from enough saber fencers, we'll throw that into the mix too.
