Re: [sanjose-mls] Reason for hope?

Personally, if I were Yallop, I wouldn't move a step or two down to coaching in MLS if I presently had a National Team job.

The returns of Meola and Lalas aren't the only changes to come. In addition to players, Lalas has not proclaimed any undying faith in Bradley and among the former MLS coaches he's known to admire is Canadian national team coach Frank Yallop, who won two titles with San Jose during his three seasons as an MLS head coach.

''Changes do need to be made and they will be made in order to make us a stronger team,'' says Lalas, who refuses to speculate on a coaching change. ''There's a recognition, not only on behalf of AEG but everyone involved with this league, if we want to take that step to the next level, we're certainly going to have to throw some resources at our product and at players, especially our international acquisitions.

''There's a willingness to do that but it's certainly not going to happen overnight. If Luis Figo or David Beckham wanted to come play in MLS, we would make it happen.''

BTW, did you see the article saying speculating that NY might want Frank Yallop if things don't improve there?

I found it interesting that two things happened this week.  First, the Quakes created a San Jose Earthquakes Hall of Fame considering the uncertainty of their future in San Jose.  Why would they bother?  The optimist in me wants to interpret this as putting down roots.  The pessimist in me says that the front office has time on their hands since the team is moving to Texas and the employees don't care if sales do well since they'll be let go in a few months.

Second, the Quakes announced that games against the Galaxy and Chivas USA will be on Telemundo.  As far as I know, Telemundo is not part of Televisa.  And Televisa is owned by the people who own Club America.  So if the Quakes were going to be sold to Club America, you'd think the games would be televised on Televisa rather than a competitor.  Now, it could be Chivas or the Galaxy that initiated the televising of these games, but the Quakes press release seems to indicate that the Quakes were the ones negotiating.
