RE: [sanjose-mls] 2005 Starting Lineup?

The assumption of Dayak is a big one. It goes without saying that we
need his heart out there, but he was a liability last season because of
all of the injuries. His entire Quakes career has been spent in and out
of the lineup, so I see no reason to think that will be different this
season. Unfortunately, Robinson has been the same way, and it is too
bad because I've always seen him as a Dayak protégé. Califf will be big
for us if he stays healthy; I think he has the potential to make a
Bocanegra-like move to the EPL. Wade, thank god he is back, we need him
at left back.

I can't say I know that much about the midfield. It will be hard for me
to imagine they will be a solid as the 2003 Quakes, but we'll see.
DeRo, well, it is his turn. He finally looks to have the shot at
starting that he has wanted, though I'm sure he wasn't all lillipops and
rainbows when Cerritos came back. But, with Cerritos not on par with
the one who left us, I think DeRo should have the starting spot if he
wants it. The question is: can he produce on a consistent basis. He
was arguably the best bench player the Quakes ever had, maybe one of the
most clinch subs in the league with the way he can turn a game. But he
hasn't proven to me that he can produce as a starter. He'll clearly
benefit from having Ching there, their polar opposite playing styles
will challenge the best defenses.

As for Ching, I hope he gets the service he did from Donovan, Mulrooney
and Ekelund. If he does, he'll be fine.
